This Norwegian Fish Farm Is Growing Fish Faster With Less Energy!
This Fish Farm Is Growing Fish Faster Than Ever Before
Lifting water is very heavy, and likewise very energy intensive. It's much easier to move the water. By doing so, one may dramatically reduce energy use. A business in Norway called Andfjord Salmon has figured out how to do that very thing. Their facility is submerged in the ground, so the pool is at the same level as the adjacent sea. This eliminates the need for water to be pumped. In fact, they do not have pumps for doing this at all - instead, they use flow boosters. Which translates to a lot of energy saved.
But better than that, this Fish Farm Is Growing Fish Faster Than Ever Before
Land-based fish farmer Andfjord Salmon has reported an “industry-leading” survival rate for the first batch of fish stocked in its flow-through system at Kvalnes on the Norwegian island of Andøya.__If there is one certain thing, it is that the fish in the pool at Kvalnes thrive. The survival rate is currently at 99.4%.
So, how come they're doing so well?

here's a hint - if your story is about farming/raising salmon - make sure the fish in your story are salmon and not a bunch of other types of fish also - the story was about the "new flow thru fish farm for salmon" so why would you keep showing a bunch of videos of different types of fish farms - again why ?

It seems like they're not telling us the full truth. But in defense, if the ponds are at the same level it would take very little energy to move that water. But your right, it still needs pumps. And did you see all the food the feed? They never did go into details on how they move that much waist. I'd turn it into worm food and grow worms to feed the fish. I'm left wondering.

I understand the need but as a former Alaskan it is easy to tell the difference between wild and farm raised fish.
I remember fishing on a lake in southern Ontario and they just finished up a survey using electro-shock to stun the fish and they float up to the surface. One of the conservation scientists said if people knew how big the fish were, they would never go swimming. The guy piloting the vessel added there's only 2 safe methods for a guy to go skinny dipping, the back stroke and the one handed dog paddle.

Deep lake fish is giant. There is one fish species that drags rural women near River banks when they are washing cloths. We name them Doman Fish (Malaysia Deep Lakes) . Dangerous highly ferocious Fish.
Drinking game idea: Watch this video and take a shot every time you hear the phrase, "laminar water flow".
What about the water return to the sea, is that filtered, also how about using some of these to return spawn back into the rivers
WOW! your right! This is SHOCKING! Who knew we could fish! Thank you Einstein
i have seen the damage these farms do to the eco-system, there is no sea life/weed anywhere near these things, a seal ripped open a net in Tasmania and locasl were catching some of the fish but several had health issues ie deformities etc. I have not or will not buy farmed salmon after hearing and seeing what they do.
Where does the waste water goes ? Did they treated it before releasing it to the environment? With 17 time water volume come in and out over 24hr I don't think so they can.. For me this method of farming is not far less different than caging system except the caging use top water instead from the bottom of the ocean.
Isn’t it amazing how there was once enough fish naturally breeding in the wild to supply our needs, now we have to breed them in farms.

I think the point was that you can farm the fish for waaay cheaper than fishing. I am a bit concerned about the concentrated waste possibly being dumped back into the beautiful fjord waters. Maybe a system of lagoon type gravity waste ponds would work, but i don't know how it's done without pumping. Need more information than this video provides.

Lifting water from 40 meters unlikely to prevent lice infestation in previously infected areas, filtration to the point of prevention will be costly in set up maintenance and labour. whilst also removing any natural food source from the water stream, is the water leaving the farm filtered?and what chemicals are they using during production runs. The whole system comes across as a high tec version of late victorian trout farming. Does the farm produce it's own energy or grow the food requirements of the stock.Does seem to have been granted rather large quotas for a system still in development. I will be interested to see how well this scheme does in the long term and whether it will work with other species or even in a symbiotic multi specie fashion.

Will I be willing to trade places with a wild salmon? Yes. A salmon in these tiny containers? No. Salmons travel far distances and have all kinds of places to go, things to eat, other species to see. There's not a chance that these salmons are healthy especially eating dried food.
nice drinking game everytime he say flowtechnology

Please increase fish farms across the world at every State shoreline! Our fish population is soooo depleted from Man’s over fishing by companies & increases of shark populations & something needs to happen ASP! These Companies that over fish should be made to pay high tax to build fish farms or build their own farms and stop the madness of taking our sea life to record lows!

Nope. Full of extremely toxic hydrogenated seed oil from Canola usually, the worst form of omega 9 fat allowed in the human food system.
and there is another reason why the fish farm has thrived so well and your land based operations and that is the fact that there are no natural predators to attack the salmon they live in peace that's why your survival rate is so high
I will always myself and teach my kids to fish. Fishing has been in my family as far back to our homeland. I wouldn't eat farm raised.

Most fish farming is an environmental nightmare .Norway is considering a 40% ground rent tax on salmon and trout farms with volumes over 4000 tonnes.
But are they GMO fish?
The old method used in Norway was toxic to the fish and water
And what is shocking about that?
So sad 😔
Salmon fishes is not delicious to eat. Maybe nutrition wise. I think Rainbow Trout taste more delicious
Video contradict the narrative.
19,000 tons per year of farmed fish from this facility. Disposal of the fish feces and lice infestations are the problems. Better to eat greenhouse hydroponic farm tomatoes and lettuce. At Provideniya, Chukotka, Russia these greenhouses are heated with deep wells geothermal hot water.
Well, those stripped fish do not look like salmon. 😐
Farmed salmon is a much inferior product compared to wild caught...35% fat vs 5% in the wild caught fish..
So many reasons to not eat farmed meat.
You'll need to fact check this but I was told Norweigan farmed salmon are the most toxic of any farmed salmon. Could be totally wrong.

It is. If you look at wild cold vs farm raised. The wild caught is a beautiful deep red, the farm raised is as orange as a Cheeto. The stuff is so jacked on chemicals and food pellets that it can cause hysteria and anxiety if eaten to much.

So please pardon me if I wont hold my breath waiting for the benefits to show.Because all these promises were made when aquaculture first started seriously in the 1970s.
