Geo Thermal is the heat which is trapped in the earths core and there is infinite amount of Heat even if could trap 0.1% of this heat, we could solve the earth's electricity problem for 2 Million Years, as the core of the earth is equally hotter as the sun, and we would have infinite amount of energy 24x7 But what are challenges which are holding us back in accessing this renewable source of energy.
The major roadblock is the cost of drilling, as geothermal power plants require a drilling of minimum 1km and might go till 10KM to uncover the super hot rock with temperature of up to 300-500 degree Celsius and at these temperatures mechanical drilling is not efficient and it cost 40% of the entire project but a new innovation from MIT will change it for good as they have developed a new laser drilling technique which as per them is 10X cheaper than traditional drilling, and could be an opportunity to uncover the infinite potential of geothermal energy.
