I love that this wasn't just another MV reaction, just shows how much Ateez impacts people. But what i find the most mind blowing is that this concept wasn't just for a trend. This whole thing was planed from the begging and they were always hinting at it, giving us piece by piece and we never saw it coming (ok, we kinda did but not to this extent). They really are breaking a wall in every way possible and who knows where will they take us in the future.

hello hello hello art student here !!! fun fact bc i loove this mv: this mv has HEAVY references to expressionism and futurism which focused a lot in dystopian fantasies and likes to portray how the future could look like with the new technologies that were surfacing at the moment. some of these shots are fully inspired/taken from the movie Equilibrium !! even the first sentence "There is a disease in the heart of man, the disease is human emotion" is from the film ! also the shot during the chorus with the buildings and GUERRILLA in red is a remake of the poster for the film Metropolis !!! gahh i just love it so much they did such a good job with the art details this time it makes me so happy!

After the production scale and quality of The Real, I thought ATEEZ had outdone themselves and nothing could top the prior comeback... But THIS! This completely blew my mind. The teasers, the performance preview, the mv and the full album itself... Damn. The amount of planning and foresight they channel into their work is INSANE. Sector1 was from Answer era, and they actually teased this comeback literally a year ago on one of their performances in a freaking competition!!! When other groups were coming up with amazing performances to win, they were making sure that they're able to promote their next year comeback with their performance. Naurr it doesn't get crazier than that. Nothing tops this in the kpop industry, both past and present. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

I think that at 7:26 when the first chorus is played and the dancing shot is slowly zoomed out on, it’s playing more into the theme of taking over and liberating more and more people from their painless, robotic lives using the rising orchestral notes and the art deco style background that looks like how many dystopian cities of grandeur were/are portrayed (especially on book covers) to make viewers feel a mounting sense of “something big is coming” and rising up and all that Instead of being disappointed that it’s a bit anticlimactic I think it’s not supposed to be climactic, rather, it’s expository as the action is just starting to build and this is signaling that something larger is going to happen later In a few words, it’s more of a quiet uprising at this point than a full-on war/riot

this exactly... i just commented about this too. like to me the edited chorus feels underwhelming because why the original works is because yeah the camera movement is slow, but its showing all of the members.... and personally i didnt think it was anti climactic at all haha. them all dancing and the slow zoom out with the background felt so intense and it still feels super intense every time. the new edit he makes takes away from the story line imo

Dick that MANY famous iconic movies were birthed after them check them out! :) And they do also have a fantasy concept with many old movie and books inspirations! Like Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Lord Of The Rings, etc! That cool city set was directly inspired by the cover of Metropolis restored version. And the shot with the flags I'm sure inspired by a shot from the MV of Iron by Woodkid! They covered only a tiny part in the trailer, the story is way bigger and it's written in their albums, thank you forr looking into the trailers thought! They are actually fighthing forhuman emotions and art, Strict land is the place that they've time traveled to, the men with black fedoras are called the Black pirates and the white mask men from their past MVs are called Androids, the yellow smoke makes you hallucinate, also the old man's name is Left eye.

i felt my brain cells increase watching this reaction because of all the details you pointed out that i don't think i would've even KNOWN to appreciate despite the MANY times i've watched this mv (although also probably because i end up headbanging to the song instead of watching the screen lol), so thank you so much for this video!! and thank you so much for also taking the time to dive deep into the trailers too!! the message of this track and their storyline is so, so meaningful to me and it always makes me happy seeing people connect with it, and i loved hearing that it resonated with you as an editor using this platform as well! :)

Watching your reaction to the MV brought me back to the emotions and excitement of seeing it for the first time again! Thank you for bringing such a comprehensive and detailed explanation, your expertise was soooo interesting and amazing to hear for the brain! Also, I believe the white scene with the flag is more inspired from « La Liberté Guidant le Peuple » from French artist E. Delacroix, but it's very funny to see what it evokes from a US point of view! I'm glad to see a reaction video that is longer and bring a light to the MV : ) Thank you!

The flag scene seems to be a composite of several sources of inspiration but seeing how the storyboards had a triangular composition there I agree that one of the main ones was most probably La Liberte. One of the more unexpected references I've found though was the MV for Woodkid's Iron - the medieval-style flags, the smoke projectiles, the general composition and movement (and also Run Boy Run, with a modernist/futurist city as a symbol of an oppressive system). There's even a flying ship cameo there!

Jordan, thank you SO much for the insight on this one. I wholeheartedly agree that this video changed the game. The entire album seems to show the arc from the controlled world through the "war" for mental independence, and then audibly sounds like that blue sky at the end of a really great movie. You'll love it as a listen through. As others have mentioned, this is all part of a muuuch larger storyline for the group, and many of the lyrics and concepts have carried through the songs and the videos. The written interiors they include in their CD boxes have diary entries talking about their fight within this new environment -- to understand it, to despise it, to change it -- and how they get help along the way. It gives a name to that old man and gives him a backstory along with the previous Diary film (around Inception's release) that shows all the members' stories in the world before they end up in -- yes, it's actually called that -- Strictland. You'll see the Strictland word on the right window glass in Fireworks, for instance, before it zooms out of the underground car to Yunho atop the Humvee. And this album ties us back to the start/end soundscape of Answer, 2+ years ago that now has its own song fully realized on the album. That there's a plan, a story, and that we're getting little glimpses is just perfection. Thank you so much for your review, and yes, I agree, your edit is much more dynamic for the chorus!

Well open your eyes has been around since treasure era (at the end of Illusion when they all fall asleep a voice says “Open your eyes!”) so this was always a key phrase for their story line. I notice that the members are often sleeping at some points of their brighter songs. I think this is also important.

loved your input on this mv!! i like how you mention the story and talk about how the editing supports it :DD not sure if you take reaction suggestions, but i'd LOVE to see you react to any of ONF's MVs, especially their recent ones!! Sunny Visual works on most of their MVs and they do a SPLENDID job. their "WHY" mv feels like a movie. also, The Avengers CGI team (yup, the Marvel Avengers) worked on "Beautiful Beauitful", and the director of La La Land directed "Complete"!! their MV "Ugly Dance" was filmed 99% on a robotic arm too, which is said to be one of the first.

Thank you for your reaction. It’s always interesting to hear your opinion. This concept story has been part of their lore since the beginning. The Guerrilla’s are actually Halateez (the guys who show up in various videos in the black fedoras). There is more about their world in Deja Vu (if you watch Equilibrium you recognize some shots they stole) and Rhythm Ta stage in Kingdom. The world of Halateez (who are Ateez in a different dimension who meet up in songs like Answer and Say My Name) is very inspired by the movie Equilibrium. Gonna be honest-I think the time lapse you didn’t like at the beginning was intentional-they set up the speakers, but then they had to finish hacking into the system to start their song. Or it may have been a mistake.
