Consciously I know this, but I always get people stiff arming me (especially since it's harder to find judo gyms than BJJ) and I keep trying from far away anyway...

I've noticed that in wrestling they do an inside trip with their heads on the side of the leg they're tripping but the ouchi gari has your head be on the opposide side. Is there a reason for this difference or is it just tradition?

I might be wrong but, I belive cause you want the weight on the same side that the leg you are reaping, you have your head on the other side so you can push ukes head with your own head to the side that the leg you are reaping, putting weight on that removed leg, making them fall into the hole. If you have the head on the same side your head will push the shoulder or fall off and you cant put much pressure to that side. If theres any judokas who knows the right answer please let us know!

@@guest0046 My opinion is that Shintaro probably should put his head on the same side. Even with a forward drive, you'd want to drive to the side where the leg was reaped instead of the opposite side where there is a leg to stand on.

@@judobreakdowns7616 yes, so if you have your head on the opposite side, you can push towards the side of the reaping leg with your head (from otherside towards reaping side). If you have your head on the same side of the reaping leg, you can only push with your head on their shoulder and your head might slip off. If that makes sence

@@guest0046 I understand what you're saying. I just disagree. The head isn't in itself producing much force. What it does is change the amount of weight being placed on what side. When the head is on the opposite side then more than half of the weight is on the opposite side.

@@judobreakdowns7616 oh I see. I still belive having the head on the otherside and then use it to push to the reaping leg side is better, so you dont get counterd or slip off. But I also belive to use what works best for you, theres so many variants on throws, and if it works, i guess it works. It will be interesting to hear more oppinions on this topic!

sleeve and collar can almost always be done as neck and wrist or neck and tricep. I often will give up a good collar grip to just go behind the head because the gi can move and loosen, the neck is always attached to their spine.

If you look up Shuai Jiao, it is essentially sleeveless judo that allows leg grabs. It is only really popular in Northern China but there are some videos on KZread by some US or Canadian orgs I think
