This Miniature MIGHT be too tall? 5'4" Rapunzel Tower

For this video, I wanted to see if I could build a 1:60 scale Rapunzel's Tower, as seen in the movie Tangled, which my daughter is a huge fan of. I had asked her if she wanted me to build her anything and this was the first thing she said, no hesitation. Hope she really enjoys this sturdy construction, with an ABS pipe frame layered with cardboard and cardstock, and loads of detailed wood engraved with EVA foam.
Cheers!

I can promise you that even if she damages it or doesn’t fully appreciate it at this age, this build has secured a core memory for her all her life. My dad would build and fix things with me all the time and some of the things I remember most is his love built into the slightly chipped teacups or necklaces I’d accidentally snap, I even had a tangled tower and it’s still around to this day :) also the most dad thing ever is your child asking a single time for something cool and you just sigh and say “okay” and then make it scale for scale accuracy just because

My dad made me a millennium falcon out of wood…he just cut out the general shape and drew rooms. And because we were pretty poor I didn’t have any action figures…so he cut squares and I drew on the characters from star wars…it was my favorite thing to play with. This is insane and I think it’s just a dad’s instinct to make toys for their kids but you made it fucking INSANE!!! 10/10!! Absolutely phenomenal

amazing build for real! and to clarify for the scaling inconsistencies, its actually standard for the outside to not match the inside in animation, because the focus on the outside is to have a strong silhouette (if the bedroom matched the inside the tower would look off balance and be a little harder to "read"). on the inside the focus is what works best for the scenes, like having the bedroom, say, in the rafters where it might fit inside better wouldnt allow for rapunzel to swing around and would leave a weirder flow for traveling up and down the stairs, etc. so yes its bigger on the inside!

I don’t know for sure, but I think there may be a few inconsistencies due to the length of planning that went into the movie. Originally it was meant to come out in the late 90s early 2000s, but the animation skills were still too rough and hard to use for complex scenes with Rapunzel‘s hair. So they put the movie aside and tried again about one and a half decades later. Then the director died and someone else took over. So I’m not surprised, that some things don’t add up.

Wild fun fact: I have a couple Rapunzel figures that are similar to the one you printed, one is a lot larger and the big one I hand painted but I gave her a goth version of her usual color scheme (basically same palette overall but darker and all the pink replaced with dull lavender or in the case of the lipstick, magenta ish purple, I gave her emo looking eyeshadow and her blonde hair is pale and dull instead of golden.) As a big fan of Tangled who was disappointed when Frozen took over, your tower is 10/10!

i know why there are discrepancies between the interior and exterior, funnily enough. I was seeing a presentation on the design process of the movie when it first came out. They even made fun of it: "we needed light here...so we put some. Which is funny because there is no window". Basically make it fit the needs...."no one will notice!....except that Knarb guy.....damn you Knarb". DISNEY EXPOSED FOR BEING LAZY Disney might hate you know ;)

This is an absolutely astounding labor of love. It seems you've spared no expense and made no short cuts or cop outs. I admire your drive, patience, determination, and skill. You may have noticed an influx from others, like me, who got you in their recommended recently and this was an instant subscribe for me. Your whole family is very lucky to have a father like you! P.S. The light tan wash on the inside tiles was magical! Such a genius way to get that "dusty", uniformly sun-faded look that old terracotta and tile seem to get no matter how much you wash and sweep.
