I decided to make this piece to talk about something I've struggled with quite a bit this year. It has to do with my ego, and although I'm not proud of this, just being honest about where I'm at and making this was really helpful.
"Comparison is the thief of joy," were words from Theodore Roosevelt and they feel very relevant in a competitive world.

I feel like some parents do that to their kids because they don’t really love them, this is probably because their spouse isn’t their soulmate and they don’t love one another so that’s why it’s harder to love their kid, cause they didn’t have it with the right person. You might disagree, but this is my opinion

Hey Nathaniel, I’ve been following both you and Matt D’Avella for a long time now, and I can say that even though you two have similar styles, you are definitely unique in your delivery and focus. At first, I wrongly fell into the camp of “He seems like Matt D’Avella”, simply because I saw his content first, but honestly after spending sometime watching your videos, and comparing your styles, I find your work much more compelling and interesting. Also, it turns out you did the whole “Cold Showers” thing before Matt did, and he even sorta referenced you in the beginning of his cold shower video 😉 I also want to add that your videos are really inspiring to me, especially considering that you’re still in your early 20s. You are definitely ahead of your time! Kudos to you man, keep up the good work!

Now think about this: Social media (instagram, facebook stories) are just a bombardment of other peoples lives. While these people can be your friends or people you admire, one can't prevent your subconsious mind from constantly comparing your life against theirs. Even if you are not actively thinking or comparing, over time, it might induce negativity or even lead to depression.

That is why it is imperative people understand, that what they see on these platforms is only "A-sides" or "the Best of the Best with honors, sir" (sometimes negativity as a cry for attention and validation) of other people's lives. Rarely anybody shares the mundane and downright unpleasant, yet we all experience it. The "B-sides" are filed away and kept private.

Loved loved loooooved this video! One thing if I may add something, ‘being you’ is not an static process. I’m only 25, young, naive and faulty in so many ways but there is one thing I have learned: being you is an ever changing process. Think about it like ‘becoming’. Your identity and your relationship with yourself will keep on changing as you learn and live. But that’s a good thing! Become and keep becoming Nathanael Drew. Cherish it! The ever evolving you. If anything, the race should be with our own past selves: more compassionate, more passionate, more present and happier with every single version of ‘you’. Loooads of love from the Dominican Republic! Xx

"Comparison is the thief of joy" Recently, someone passed away in my family at the end of August. For the past month, I felt very cripple by looking at social media or creating my own content online because I felt everyone was living their best life and I was struggling with sleep and grieving the loss of my dad. After watching this video, I realized I was comparing my life! Social media is designed to make people envious and I was envious. I kept seeing everyone putting out their accomplishments and "highlight reel". Being in that space isn't fun. Today I put content out again and it felt great! Nathaniel (no idea if you actually will read this), thank you for the content you make! As a 21-year-old myself, I believe its easy in our generation to get caught up in "others" highlight reel and compare your craft to others, but going forward, I'm working on my content and bring back my own happiness. Thank you for making this video and making me realize I was letting others steal my joy, but now I got to take it back 😊👊🏾

It feels like everytime you post a new video, its exactly what i needed to hear at that moment. And i want to thank you for that. Lately I've been struggling with making myself into a person that i can respect, and I've been trying so hard to just focus on my own inner journey and not comparing myself to anyone else. Which is hard. Sometimes i even compare myself to you, since were around the same age. And it makes me feel inadequate. Its not fair to you, and its not fair to me. This video reminded me how important it is to realize that everyone has their own inner struggles, and we all deserve compassion. Thank you for making meaningful content Nathan!

We usually find ourselves spend dozens of time on social media even after a busy day. It has become a norm but does not guarantee us to be happy. Social Media is vast. I find sharing my thoughts with closed ones helped me to get ready for the next day. Direct communication can open many doors, especially at the young age.

"Humans are pattern recognition machines" -- this is the real reason I reckon. We need to compare in order to understand the world. Imagine if you see an animal you've never seen before - your first reaction will be to try and remember an animal that you know that resembles it so that you can predict what to expect from it. (People who see koalas for the first time usually think of bears :) ) Regardless, great video!

I've been watching your videos andI'm amazed to find so many answers for so many questions that have been bothering me. I honestly feel a bit unconprehended. There is a constant flow of information and I don't seem to deal with it properly, adding up all the insecurities, shadow aspects, things get really confusing and noisy sometimes. I appreciate how open you speak about your things because it's a reference. Nowadays people don't show their full selves because everyone is afraid of sounding weak or even worse.. be controlled. I don't like to hide myself but at the same time it feels uncomfortable to put myself out there. Comparison is always present! Anyways.. this made me feel good about myself and I'm gonna work on it! Thank you!

Thanks for your continued honesty and high quality content. I often dislike the side of me that compares myself to others, but i realised this was also toxic. I am trying to learn to accept this is who i am, and not to judge it as a bad thing or even a good thing. It is me and that is ok. But i can decide whether i will use it to make positive change, even if i sometimes go off track along the way. If one day I am compared to you I will consider that a good thing. Cheers man.

This made me cry, I'm so happy, Nathaniel. You're teaching authenticity by being you, and this is priceless. It feels safe, good. Embracing our real feelings and even more expressing them is something terrifying for so many of us because being judged hurts too much; and I think that with people like you, more kids and even adults can feel like they can do it too! It's like looking up to a heroe who is capable of doing that very thing that scares you the most: accepting all the parts that make you YOU. 💛

Totally relate to what Skylar was saying -- My brother is awesome, so I tend to get compared to him in everyday life. It's less of being "in his shadow" and more like being washed out in his light. Now that we live farther apart and interact with different groups of people, I feel like I'm able to shine on my own without our brightness being compared.

I actually found your videos via recommendations from watching Matt D'Avella, and while I see some similarities, I must say that I get so much more value out of your content (particularly recently). From my perspective, I can relate to you a lot more, because we're closer in age (I'm 19), and we've both spent time living in other countries. Somehow, it seems that I have come to a conclusion just before you make a video about the same thing, which actually is really refreshing for me to know I'm not alone in my thought process. Also, I would just like to say to stop saying that you don't really know anything because of you're age. You might not have a full life's worth of anecdotes, but you have experienced enough to form your conclusions at this point. You can expect your thought process to change, but it doesn't make the things that you say any less valid now. As always, though, a beautifully crafted video with a beautiful message! Xx
