This is a cool addition to the AI. The AI in general has some pretty smart behavior even though it could be better (I assume valve didn't make it even smarter because then the game would be too hard). Shotgunners only use the last shells in their magazine in an emergency. Enemies will fulfill one of several "roles" in combat. Examples include rushing the player, suppressive fire, flushing the player out with grenades, etc. Certain combine are prioritized for certain roles. Shotgunners are almost always the ones that charge you, for example.

It makes the combine feel a lot scarier

It can make your battles more intense, and stressing 😅

Shotgunners aren’t cheating They can just now do the double shotgun blast like Gordon can We’ve evened the playing field

would be interesting to see in the normal hl2 campaigns

It works really well, I use it as part of the combine AI, was surprised how much it made a difference, but given that Half-Life 2's AI works best when it's running at you more or less and chasing you down, it helps a lot.

Pair This with the mitosis split mod where when you kill a npc another two spawn

AI avoiding crosshair is peak ingenuity

Btw (This is gonna interrupt the fire animation that happens on combine)
