From the video description I thought Baradul had somehow managed to cram 5 large x-pulse lasers into one Spider mech. Alarming, and terrifying.

Spider one of the funnest, usually got ERlarge and engage long distance untill some back armor is exposed.

I always think I should like the Spider, but the Locust, Flea, and Arctic Cheetah just work way better for me.

Spiders are great for objective based gameplay. They can be a lot trickier outside of that.

There's something so invigorating about whipping around the map in a Locust like a mad man before getting annihilated by an enemy assault that can aim. XD

I still like your light-hearted approach very much.

I see that baradul saw us running around in Spider LargeXPulse setups. Never thought of adding the machine guns though. We just slapped 10 jumpjets on it instead.

This is a 5K build, it plays closer to a pirates bane with jumpjets and no ecm, youre talking about the 5V, thats the only Spider that can do the 10 jumpjets and it has a lower laser duration and CD making the Large laser more viable by itself.

I'm not convinced the mgs are worth it. I'd rather have the jjs or more engine/heatsinks/whatever

Good to see an actual good Spider build. I feel like the Spider gets overlooked at times, so seeing a good spider build is great. 🙂

I’ve actually been seeing a lot of spiders in game lately, lots of light PPCs, or laser and machine guns. This one is the first XPulse I’ve seen though, almost makes me want my own

I remember first reading about the Timbiqui dark in the Black Thorns supplement, I think Hawk mentioned it in one of his brief journal entries. Strangely enough, one of his other entries was about how he contracted a nearly fatal disease. That story was one of the things that helped me through my own close-to-death infection.

For some reason, whenever I run something like this, and go scouting, the rest of the team seems to think that it's a good opportunity to follow and draw all the attention to me.

MWO has an insane number of mechs and variants, and at some point or another the devs and Cauldron always make sure each of them are relevant, if not OP, at some point.

Whenever i play a spider like this, i hear the sound in my head of the spider from centipede.

Hey Baradul, you should consider revisiting the 6xSRM6 Chadapult. It’s lots of fun and I’ve had many a game with 1000+ damage and I even almost got Ace of Spades with it.

my only problem with this kind of build on the spider is that low mounted laser in the center makes you have to expose so much to shoot back. it gets blocked easily. Locust is the way to do this. you don't get MGs but its smaller and the weapon location is better placed.

Do love the Locust LPL build (played before X-Pulse update)--the duration/cooldown quirk basically made it a scalpel. I would hug the friendly assault mechs and just pop my head out to harass the enemy once they're already engaged with the bigger threat. You're definitely right that the Spider is at a disadvantage with that playstyle, especially since its movement is a lot more stable (easier to target its specific components), but Baradul's aggressive playstyle makes it work.

@@Thomas-fz9xw yea I've been back and forth between LPL and XLPL on my locust. I can't decide which is better. if the LPL cooldown and duration could be just a bit faster I think it would be the winner.

I don't like the facetime of X pulse lasers so I still run Large Pulse on my locust. It technically has less DPS but you can focus the damage a little easier to specific components I feel like.

@@SchwhatNow i think i found a better build than even the single lpl. Go xl170, shs, and do a LL or Erll plus 4 lmgs. The LL is also quick as hell in this. 600 plus range and 4 lmgs to back you up when targets are hurting. Super consistent and the LL is fast enough to be anoying. Durarion is like .35 so somethinf

@@Bigbacon You definitely could do that, though in my testing that runs way too hot with single heat sinks for my tastes. That said, I did manage to fit a Large and 4 LMG with DHS and intend to test that out. Requires some shaving of the arm armor but they are small targets.

I have started to gain a reputation for being the crazy spider pilot in MWO. Some days I can attract the enemy whole team for a few minutes, im usually playing a 5A with max jumpjets and relevant skills, ams and 2 er mediums lasers, but i also have one of these with this exact build. The ansani with lmgs mrm 10 and er mediums is more fun for me and less face time than this build.

1 large x pulse 2 small xpulse 3 dhs more. 220 engine and 3 jjs. Paper cutter.

Hitreg in this game is terrible ever since one of the updates several months ago. See instances constantly where attacking player is hitting the opposition, but nothing registers on the enemy.
