Shonen has always had an issue axing manga way to early. They don't really have a minimum run time for manga, so usually alot of series get dropped unless the author somehow gets the rights to their series transfered so another publisher that will continue it.

Yeah, as i said to my gf, "Some Manga begins in the 20th or 30th chapter, just look at Gintama or Katekyo Hitman Reborn that began in the 60th chapter and got into the 700 or 400 chapters". Some of the best mangas begins in the 25 or 30 issue of their stories, bcuz they do some Worldbuilding in their stories. Some of them like Chainsawman or Jujutsu Kaisen begins from their 1st issue because they don't try to be long running Manga Series. Maybe i'm right, maybe i'm wrong or maybe i'm just Bitter since they Cancelled Beelzebub and Samon-Kun Wa Summoner. thats why i moved to the Shonen Sunday(Shogakukan) already. Shogakukan gives more liberty to the authors to write what they want, Kodansha too(I think).

It's starts with the fun part only to do the oldest and one of the most infuriating thins in anime "flashbacks" Jujustu started in the "interesting" part just to hook people, and then they lame flashbacked some of the most important aspects of the history. Basically they showed you pretty colors and you liked them.

A lot get cancelled around 15-20 and don't even make it to 30. They gave it a chance and decided they didn't want it in the magazine, which is a reality that anyone trying to get published in shonen jump acknowledges as a possibility. I'm sure that in a less competitive magazine it would have lasted longer, but Jump has an almost psychopathic obsession with finding the next big thing™️. Personally I don't think it was very interesting, so I'm not surprised it was cancelled, but at the same time the magazine has also kept around some series that are really boring IMO.

They don't do this for a good reason tho. A serious that is on the chopping block by chapter 20 will never be a major hit just flat out, if they move ot to Jump Plus, it might do ok but it's not doing big numbers. If jump publishes a series in the magazine it means the editors think that author is the ability to make a series that will be a big hit, so they would rather that author try again with somthering new then was time on a series that's just doing OK.

@@thesimpostor6251 The problem with that mindset is the unrealistic expectations the producers have. They want their peak to become the norm, so even profitable works get axed if they don't match up to the most profitable thing they've ever produced. You see this in other work places too. One guy managed to assemble their piece faster then anyone ever did before? Rather than reward him for being a hard worker, the guys up top speed up the whole assembly line to make that the standard, all because they don't realize that even the guy that did it can't keep up that pace every day. The factory starts losing money because of all the fuckups that happen as a result of the increased speed, and then everyone on the line collectively quits when they get fed up with the way they are treated and other options for work are available. This isn't a hypothetical, this actually happened at a factory I used to work at.

Based, i am ok with romance sideplot in shounen, but not harem. It will stray the story just to introduce new harem addition and the revolve around the mc and the girl instead of the shonen aspect. Although looking at the comment that its still a love triangle ... but seems its really have that direction with introduction of the new female character

I feel like the first chapter was what the author intended and everything that followed, like the pointless harem, was suggested by the editors. Unfortunately nowadays manga readers love generic sludge, hence the countless Isekai with the same plots and characters with over 100 chapters.

It's not manga readers in general, but the Japanese audience. Logically speaking, only the best manga should be animated, but there are SO many copy and paste Isekai that it's clear the studios don't even care. If you dig deeper into manga, you'll be surprised how much good, thought provoking, well written manga are just sitting on the shelf, and even some exceptionally good ones getting axed

Only few novels, manga anime have MC killing the harem early on by making his choice clear or going the Tengen route.

@@abhabh6896 the fake shipping is the harem bait, what I hate most about these stories is that the MC will develop genuine bonds with all the other girls and in the end is like "sike, I'm taking that cardboard personality childhood friend of mine who physically assaults me when she's embarrassed." Even if there's no assault, he'll choose the one who was introduced first and mostly less developed somehow. As you said it's only a few that actually make it clear what they want from the beginning while others have to be forced into a harem like "Tales of Wedding Rings", while some bait you like "Date A Live" can't believe I invested that much time into that...

shounen jump does a rating system, the readers can send back to the company, to see what is populair. from what i heard near the end of your video. the unsepected plot twist, and the change into harem. didn't resonate with the japanese readers. so it got cut, cause it was one of the 3 least populair manga in japan. western have no say into what goes in the shounen jump magazine. just hope you'll find it online, or from a difrend puplisher studio in japan.

@@janinebelleestrada7096 i don't entirly agree to this. mostly because the relationships are poorly writhen, and just tagged in for fun, it seams. when it is done right, the protaganist is intersting. female/male harem leads are in a great relationships, with interesting storylines. and the romance doesn't play just for gags, or entertainment. when writhen well, the harem works in the story's. i only agree to your statement, because this is mostly not the case.

But with this manga that wasn’t the case. Interesting concept only to get 20 chapters in and it becomes a harem? Yeah I’m not surprised it didn’t resonate well. And I think that’s the point.

It wasn’t a haram it was a love triangle… very different. Also, so many people in this comment section don’t understand that jump is in fact a business so they’ll provide the resources to the author to get stuff done and expect some form of results primarily from Japanese sales. They do not need to become the next Naruto but they would need to get a steady amount of readers to be kept alive and that doesn’t always happen. It probably wasn’t shut down thanks to a harem or love triangle, Japan loves those. It’s more likely that the manga just wasn’t vibing with people

I've been following this manga since it released the first chapter. It wasn't great. It didn't do a great job at explaining the main character's powers and how his is so different than everyone else's. But it also just didn't have "it," if you know what I mean. It didn't have the hook that made you want to keep reading. There were plenty of times where I said, "If this next chapter doesn't impress me, I'm gonna stop reading." It ended up grabbing me enough to keep reading, but not enough to get me hooked.

Let's be real here, the truth is that adding harem to any sort of story-focused manga is probably the worst thing that could happen to it. Harems destroy, ruin, fuck up and annihilate a good plot unless the plot is the harem, and that in itself already makes it a shitty story. It doesn't matter how good the story is or how beautiful the art is, harem is a wish-fulfillment trope at its core, so adding it to a manga that is supposed to be story-focused is an immediate death sentence. I wish more people thought with their top head instead of their bottom and realized that.

They do care about passion and freedom in expression, but they can’t give everyone the chance to get serialized because it’s not feasible. So they offer it to the best of the best who can keep the attention and create something that captures the attention of a bunch of people. They can do whatever they want as long as they excel and the easiest way to measure that is with numbers. Also they are a business. They want to earn money and not waste time on good but maybe not great manga.

@@chlopaczekhula3524 I don't think they do when they got editors constantly breathing on their necks and changing the story, not always for the better, on top of being constantly pressured into having a new chapter every single week, no matter what, mostly at the expense and health of the mangaka, this only leads to stagnation, series that are too similar, where only a few outliers are even given the chance to try something new and half of those outliers are shut down before they could fully spread their wings. Manga could learn a thing or two from self published manhwa, most manhwa are amateurish in comparison to published manga sure but even then, the success speaks for itself, you know you hit it big when you got these stories resonating with international audiences and when you get these big japanese studios throwing themselves to do their anime adaptations.

The shounen jump cancellation that recently hit me hardest was Hardboiled Cop and Dolphin (by the creator of Beelzebub which is one of my favorite manga) for some reason the author is cursed with always getting his series cancelled. Cop and Dolphin was his third manga serialization and the second one to be apart of shounen jump

I knew man yu yu was gonna get canceled…just based on how the 1st chapter started…it was confusing and weird. The main character is a hero but the world is peaceful. I feel like it’s too difficult to introduce a story/villain from this angle 🤷🏾‍♂️

don't worry that the author was making it worse even before the harem, without adventure or anything, before the herem it was nothing more than a hasty presentation of characters and that's it, without trying to build something.

I feel like there's a huge irony, in that all media are stuck with forcing women to be one of 3 archetypes. 1: Wants baby. 2: Wants to pleasure men. 3: Ice queen. (Evil or cured by man) And then they go "Dangit! Why do people dislike us forcing the characters into this trope?"

I was so sad about this, such a cool premise for a series

I was really interested in this series but I'm glad they got some chance to end.

This is why I hesitate to following some new series Phantom Seer, Ayashimon and Hunters Guild getting axed got to me. Especially Hunters Guild.

I’ve mostly stopped reading new manga until they reach about 3 volume releases, just so I don’t have to worry about a story i like getting axed while im into it.

It lasted longer than others I've found some don't even get 10 chapters others right as the story starts to get interesting it stops or its axed right at the end and you never get the ending or the author rushes it to where it's not as good as it should be

Ayashimon sucked after the first 3 chapters. Just read Nurarihyon no Mago or Kekkaishi if you want the ayakashi yokai trope

let's not pass off this story as if it were a small masterpiece, which the bad company has cancelled, the truth is that this manga had already declined after the first 3 chapters, from 4/29 the manga gets lost in a glass of water and already in chapter 10 the author clearly didn't know where he wanted to go, I hope that this opportunity helps him understand that even if an idea is interesting it doesn't mean that it is necessarily functional to the writing. (especially when you've never written action stories, and you've done One shot Slice of Life where he actually works).
