From what It sounded like he wanted to go to the eagles. Even before his draft he spent the most time with the eagles going out to dinner and stuff even though there wasn't a chance they'd draft him. It's his home team and him and his family's favorite team. I think he just figured if he was gonna be a backup he wanted to be on his favorite team. Besides eagles have more weapons and better oline for him to work with than he's had with the Steelers. He's probably going to have his best play yet backing up Jalen. He shouldn't have started his rookie year and wasn't put In A good situation. And then they signed russ to take his job outta nowhere. I don't blame him for leaving. He needs a change of scenery anyways. Now he's got new and better offense, coaches, and can learn under Jalen hurts.

Near the end of last season, Pickett was promised the start for next season. But of course, when the team signed a veteran who will NOT be anything else but a starter... that damaged Pickett's confidence big time. So he ended up complaining. IMMEDIATELY the Steelers staff traded him. It's not all on Pickett. He does have the talent to be a great starting QB. But in the big leagues, they don't bother trying to "train" rookies anymore. They just thrust you into impossible situations and expect you to play 15x better than you did in College. That's why all the "great" QBs drafted in the past 7 years look like complete busts (minus Maholmes, that man is a true freak when it comes to talent). There's very little trust in the young QBs because everyone wants that "Dan Marino" or "Philip Rivers" QB right out of the gate. Quality talent, Bonafide starter and can lead an offense with little talent at the WR position.

The truth came out in the talks with Tomlin. Tomlin never wanted to draft Pickett. It was a Colbert and Rooney decision. Kenny didn't want to play for a coach that didn't want him and a GM that didn't draft him.

Either way, Russell Wilson was signed to a 1 year contract. If he played mid overall he wouldn't be back next year and Kenny would compete for QB1 against somebody else, and probably start for the second half of the season at the very least. Now he'll be a backup unless he does well enough in preseason that a team that ends up desperate for a QB gives him a shot. He probably just begun his career as a backup that'll play for 7 or 8 different teams and then retire.

McKee was a STUD in the preseason last year and looked better than Marcus Mariota. So with another year under his belt, I really don't think Kenny is beating him for the QB2 job🤷‍♂️

He's backing up Hurts now, but Hurts isn't injury prone and if anything, he'll only see the field in preseason and if Hurts needs to sit out a play or two. Other than that, I don't see him being an Eagle next season IFF he even finishes out this year without being cut. He's more than likely going to be fighting for a starting position with A.J McCarron in the UFL, lol.

Once they got Wilson, they weren't going for Fields anymore. They wanted to see Pickett compete against Wilson. Pickett then had a hissy fit, so they traded him and then got Fields for peanuts. Pickett showed his true nature. Between this and how he acted when Rudolph played and did good.

I honestly thought that even tho they had already signed Wilson, once Fields became available and Pittsburgh had an opportunity to get him that it was a "no brainer" and they would have easily dropped Pickett in a blink of an eye of Fields regardless of his attitude. At least, if I was apart of the Steelers head coaching staff or apart of the decision making group, I wouldn't have hesitated to drop Pickett for Fields. I just don't see any potential in Pickett as a starting QB or even as a reliable backup. Like, I feel the most he would be able to do would be to keep a drive alive if the starting QB was forced to miss a couple snaps for whatever reason. But, if he were to go down with an injury that forced him to miss multiple weeks, whoever Pickett played for at the time would be totally screwed. Wilson isn't a terrible QB. He just wasn't with an organization that was for him, if that makes sense. I feel like Fields was in the same situation, just less severe than Wilsons. Fields has the potential to be a really good QB and possibly even a franchise QB if he is with the right organization. He's gunna be a clutch backup for Wilson. Pickett, nooo. Not so much. He's like a practice squad QB or even a UFL QB like A.J McCarron.

Pittsburgh treated Kenny Pickett like crap. I guarantee you he's not done, and he definitely didn't ruin his career considering he's in the NFL

Ya never know in the NFL, Hurts was in the MVP conversation in 22/23 and showed some regression last year. And, his style of play leaves him more susceptible to injuries (tbf, so does Wilson’s.) I seem to recall another running QB who led his team to a Super Bowl but couldn’t quite finish the job, was talked about as an MVP candidate, deteriorated rapidly, them got famous for taking a knee.

Didn't he asked to be traded though? I think he would had stayed had it been an open competition but it's Wilson's job to lose. Just like it's his job to lose against Fields. Also, Pickett is going to his hometown town team in the Eagles. His rookie contract is also guaranteed so he's still going to get paid. As for Wilson getting the veteran minimum, all it did was screw with Denver as Denver will just have to pay the rest of the money that he's owed.

QB play aside, that’s a huge dig by the Steelers organization to bring in two guys, 1 of which no one is even certain is good anymore and the other has yet to actually prove his worth. Meanwhile Kenny Picket has had the starting job in Pittsburgh for a few years now with Ben retiring and has still kept up the streak of a winning record. I disagree. He has a better chance at winning a ring as a backup for the Eagles. He can also learn from some of the best players in the league. Sure, he won't get any playtime but he's still getting paid. He also grew up in New Jersey and was raised an Eagles fan.

I mean if you think about it he's on a winning team. Jalen Hurts runs a lot so there's a chance for injury. And he doesn't have to do anything but know the playbook and play occasionally. He's also going to an established offense with good weapons and a top tier O-Line where he can learn unlike he had the ability to in Pittsburgh. He was getting hurried and didn't have nearly as good of weapons. This is basically him taking a year to actually get some good training in without being thrown to the wolves before having a chance to sign with someone else in 2 years or getting traded next year if he gets an opportunity and shows that a different team might want to take a chance on him

I believe he’s learned that the NFL is a business and he will make the same money watching and learning than running for his life. I wish him the best.

When Mason Rudolph was put in, that is when Pickett developed the whining attitude. He said he wasn’t going to be Rudolph’s back-up and wouldn’t even suit up. I don’t know what else went on but Tomlin wasn’t happy and Pickett wouldn’t stop pouting. He was always getting hurt and I think he was a terrible quarterback. I say good riddance!

Getting reps with the 2s doesn’t mean you don’t have a chance to start. Kenny played like shit so he would have had to work for the starting job or sit as qb2 for a year. Now he gets to sit as qb2 for years to come. Stop defending this dude lmao

Jalen hurts had one of the worst collapses the second half of last season, I wouldn’t say his job is set in stone either after that.

As a Pittsburgher, I was tired of his cry baby pouting mid-season last year. After he was pulled for playing terribly. He turned the whole city against him, quite an accomplishment for a Pitt QB that everyone loved at start of season. Enjoy the bench over there cry baby Kenny…

Alternatively getting traded to backup an excellent QB might help his career since he actually can learn how to do things RIGHT. Not saying it will happen, but at least Pickett has the opportunity to learn, improve & get better.

Actually the way Jalen Hurts performance regressed last season, Kenny Picket could end up starting at some point. Remember the last Eagles starting QB turned into a disaster while his backup won the Eagles their first superbowl.

I'd hold a clipboard as long as they pay me to do it. But I also don't have any marketable athletic skills, so I'd probably not even make it through a whole summer practice session without being found out 😅

He will hurts holds the ball too long and he is very predictable he will only throw the ball to his favorite player instead of throwing the ball to someone who is open and could potentially get a first down and then some and with a lot of holes in the offensive line and the replacement that they got we have no idea if they will adjust not to mention a new coaching staff on both sides of the ball

It don’t matter if Hurts gets demoted or not. If he can go be a backup in Philly, all is not lost with Pickett.

I'd argue being the steelers starting qb is worse than being a backup on a great team. Because the steelers aren't making it out of the afc in the foreseeable future, I don't even think they're making it out of the wildcard round.

And this is yet another horrible take... you don't sign Wilson with intentions of Pickett even sniffing a start unless inconsistent play or injury play a part 🤷🏾‍♂🤷🏾‍♂🤷🏾‍♂

As a Steers fan, I'm ultra excited about the upcoming season. Instead of ass remaining clinched wondering if Pickett will materialize into anything , i have the opportunity to watch Justin Fields be our potential franchise guy or watch Wilson get his revenge & guide us to the Super Bowl.

I wouldn't count on either of those things happening. Wilson or Fields did nothing last year.

Its example of many still out there of how young adults overlook their self ego they developed thru growing up around on line sociology of this new society, their emotions running away just like how they expressed themselves thru their media outlet. Many young adults are too worked up over nothing due to being habit of behaviors on line, it brings out this persona in the real world of being the BASE FOUNDATION of your place in this world.

Fans are like that - Fields was no good in Chicago but Bears fans defended far too long.

He will forever be a backup. He never had the talent of a starter. His feelings got hurt and he seriously thinks he’s better than what he is.

I think the organization lied to him that they would improve the team and give him a shot to turn things around and instead benched him without allowing him to compete for the job.

He got hurt, Was severely outplayed by Mason, Was told he would have to compete with Wilson, Then ran because he can't beat Mason, He certainly isn't beating Wilson. Never even took the chance, He knows he hasn't a shot in hell of starting....Anywhere. Quitter and a loser, Already a 1st round bust. Glad the steelers didn't try to hold the crybaby because they drafted him about 4 rounds to early.

Agree. Also what’s wild is his complaining period, he should be grateful he’s even in the league. Oh, not just that but that he even has a chance of playing and that somebody wants him. There are so many young people that want to go to the NFL but aren’t able like that is a good dream and this dude is complaining over that… At least he’s on a team but now he may not be for long.

There was no “competition.” They told Kenny he’d compete with Russ to be QB1, but then handed the spot to Wilson. It’s easy to blame Kenny, but the Steelers are pretty famous for saying one thing and doing another. See James Harrison’s exodus to New England, for example.

There are probably 6-8 teams Kenny could have ended up on that would take his chances of playing to zero: Bills, Chiefs, 49ers, Green Bay, Baltimore, maybe Miami and the Lions and of course the Eagles. If Kenny had no say in where he got traded to, he had to weigh the possibility of going to a team that had little need for a starter, or staying in Pittsburgh where they pretty much told everyone that Russ would start. I still think his moment to shine and grow would be on Pittsburgh, and let steel sharpen steel against Russ.

I don’t even understand what Pickett was complaining about. Why do young cats not want Veteran QBs on their team. Ahead of them or behind them, it doesn’t matter. It’s literally free knowledge because the vets got no reason not to teach the young guys.

If you have ever watched him play, you would realize he never had a chance at a career as a starting qb in the NFL. He made the safe career move by never having to compete for a starting role and still getting paid millions. The only bigger joke is that Mitch Tribisky still gets paid to be a qb in the league.

I can see the future, Hurts will end up missing time allowing Kenny to shine enough in that offense to be a tradable commodity

There is more to it. I don't think Kenny was getting the suppost that he needed in Pittsburgh. After Kenny left, the Steelers got highly draft offensive line men, that should have been drafted last year. Remember, Bledsoe was highly rated when skinny Tom Brady was drafted. Kenny was playing on a badly coached team, with a bad offensive line. This has happened to the Steelers before both Johnny Unitas, and Lenny Dawson were on the Steelers, and rejected by the Steelers to go on to the hall of fame. Steelers are going to go on to become 1st in the 2025 draft pick.

The Steelers ruined his career. First year after getting no reps with the #1 off they throw him to the wolves in week #3. He has no offensive line to speak of and has the worst offensive coord in the history of football. He gets hurt, has the special surgery to get him back playing quickly just to get benched for Mason Rudolph. Then in the off-season they bring in Wilson. If I were him I'd want to get as far from the steelers as possible
