    The song was written by Sebastian Bach about his friend Steven Adler, the drummer in Guns N' Roses who had such a bad heroin addiction that he was fired from the band and while they went on to be one of the biggest bands in the world his life spiraled downwards, to the point that five years after this song he had a drug related stroke that has left him with partial facial paralysis ever since. Also, Slave to the Grind is one of the best rock albums ever made. Period.

    Skid Row often got attention because of Sebastian Bach's incredible voice, but don't sleep on the band. Scottie Hill is one of the best guitar players from the era, Dave 'Snake' Sabo also a great guitarist, Rachel Bolan was not just a guy with a nosering on a chain but a great bass player too, and Rob Affuso is a really good drummer. Thanks to coming on the scene near the end of the "hair metal" era, they get overlooked a lot. Slave To The Grind is an amazing record.

    @@GianlucaImprotaPT Don't get me wrong, from 89 to around 94 Sebastian Bach was one of best vocalist in that genre, no doubt. But without the songs mainly written by Snake/Bolan, Sebastian would not of had the fame or exposure. If you remember the Bon Jovi tour got them a mass of exposure, and probably would not of got on that tour if Snake and Jon Bon Jovi weren't friends from school. And unfortunately now Sebastian seems to not do the Skid Row songs justice, judging by his current tour.

  • @GianlucaImprotaPT

    @GianlucaImprotaPT

    Ай бұрын

    @@GibraltarRocks I understand your point. But this is a conjecture ("without the songs mainly written by Snake/Bolan, Sebastian would not of had the fame or exposure"). You don't actually know that. But let's just look the thing from the other side. Would people still remember Skid Row if the band had kept Matt Fallon or any other singer? Again, just conjecture, because that didn't happen, so we simply don't know. Let's look at the facts: Skid Row peaked with Slave to the Grind. Yes, awesome song written by Snake and Rachel, but who do you think composed the vocal melody line? I've played in various bands and usually it's the singer who arranges that. But for the sake of the argument, let's just say Snake and Rachel composed the vocal line also. They needed someone like Bach in order to execute it. I can write the most amazing piece of music but if I don't have the technical ability to perform it, nobody is ever going to hear. it. In my opinion (notice I'm not saying this is the absolute truth) Skid Row got famous because the band had a phenomenal vocalist, a good lead guitar player, and some really good tunes. Try to play a skid row song to someone who never listened to it. What do you think they are. going to be blown away by? Rachel's awesome and complex bass line ? Snake's monstrous rhythm guitars? Or is it going to be the amazing vocals and maybe the lead guitars? You know the answer. Just google "skid row reactions" and watch a couple of reaction videos. Regarding Bach not do the songs justice, again it's debatable. I understand he doesn't sound like 30 years ago. You know what? I don't expect him to do it. Everybody gets older. Every band could hire a younger and better member to sound better. Metallica could fire Lars and hire a better drummer. Maybe they would sound better, but is it still metallica at that point? Dream Theater could replace James La Brie and get a better singer, yet he is still there. I don't know man, to me loving a band is more than just wanting the band to sound good. Look a Megadeth, Dave keeps hiring a younger and better lead guitar player. They all sound awesome. Yet the fans still ask for Marty to come back. That's just my opinion. No offense

    Sebastian Bach gets A LOT of praise for this song, and rightfully so. He absolutely KILLS it on vocals. But let's give credit to the band behind him as well, they make this song SO MUCH more powerful. Overall, this song with vocals and instrumentation, is simply...EPIC! Enjoyed your reaction, saw the welling up in your eyes and yeah, Sebastian has that effect. He can really make you FEEL the song. Fun trivia fact: this album, Slave to the Grind was the 1st metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard chart. Due to the introduction of Soundscan, which electronically tracked album sales nationwide. Back in the old old days, Billboard would call certain record stores and ask what albums were selling, giving an inaccurate picture of what may have been popular.

    Had Skid Row come along just a few years earlier they would have absolutely dominated, for far longer than they got to. This era pushing into the early 90’s is really interesting to look back into, the 80’s was gone and we hadn’t accepted that yet. The Cold War was over, grunge was making inroads and we got to see a really early Internet. Sad in one way but opened a whole new world of music in the 90’s. Despite being an 80’s hair metal die hard, I lived it, I really do love the variety the 90’s brought us. Film too in that period, there was SO much around, all with banger soundtracks.

Side note the kid used in this video is the same kid who played “Jeremy” in the Pearl Jam video.

Love Skid Row!! 🤘🏻 A couple others to check out...Quicksand Jesus, In a Darkened Room, or for something more upbeat, Slave to the Grind!

    Back in the day skid row was a hell of a concert. It started pouring down rain so bad the tarps over the stage collapsed spilling water all over the band and equipment. They pulled Sébastien off to the side had a chat he came back and said. They tried to tell me the show is over I told them f#ck it we will all fry together and played for another 2 hours.

    Slave to the Grind/Monkey Business was one of the best concerts I've been too. 11 rows back at the epicenter of sound. Crickets invaded my brothers apartment, I thought when we got home, but no. Was my ears still ringing .

    I remember turning 30 and thinking everything was over. I remember hitting 40 and knowing it was. Parents passed one after the other, mum in 2010, lost my job and health in 2011, and dad went in 2012. I tried to follow in 2015, 5 days in hospital. Then I got sicker. In 2021 I gave up again my body and mind ruined by illness and isolation. That's where the channel name comes from. But for whatever reason at the very end of 21, into the start of 22 I made new music. The first since dad died. I called it Rubbish, because it was something throwaway. Then I got sick again, hospitalised 6 times... But last year after being diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder I got back to recording. Two albums. As ridiculous and broken as me, and a total waste of time and effort. They went nowhere, but they're mine. I made them. I played all the instruments, write all the music, make the stupid videos, everything. Even as crippled and useless as I am, with frequent seizures I made these things. What's my point...? Don't worry about age, don't worry too much about what you've done. Just take a little time to decide what you want to do. For me I condensed the goal to simply making music. I'll never be successful, but I am still a musician. I'm still being true to the essence of my delusion. You've got plenty of time, and your health, if I can make these things, then there's nothing stopping you except you. Love the channel, been binge watching so much. If you want a recommendation, Dir en grey live with Vinushka (Androgynos live, a channel called Kaya). Kyo is one of those emotionally invested vocalists who embodies and inhabits his songs. You can also check out my stuff, Rubbish and Garbage are ok, Not Dead is interesting. But you don't have to. Keep doing your thing, keep feeling the music.

    Sebastian has endured alot of pain. Not only does it show when singing, anyone who has met him say " hes an awesome guy." He is able to express anguish perectly. Only one who knows that pain can sing it for others who do too and alot of young and old do.

    There are a handful of reaction channels I watch and all for different reasons. A few are immensely talented on pointing out the technical aspects, some you just want to see how they react in general but you get your own lane AileenSenpai. You seem to really get the music and connect with it in what I envision the artists hoped the listeners would hear and feel.

    This was very personal for Skid Row. They toured with GnR for their first album all summer long. They became very good friends. This is about Steven Adlers heroine addiction that eventually led to his being fired from GnR. One of the greatest rock ballads ever recorded. The message carries so much weight. Its a timeless classic.

    Wow, I haven't heard this in such a long time. I almost forgot about it and am so glad you returned it. It is a truly wonderful song. Aileen, all those emotions you feel are normal. As we get older, we feel our decisions, but it's ok. Anyone who lives long has those same thoughts, etc. It is what we do with them that counts. Read some Anton Lavey; that always helps with deprogramming [from regrets, expectations, etc.] and fueling that fire. Life is about building; we can only evolve, and of course, we stumble a bit here and there. Brush yourself off and start anew; you are a bad a$$; let rock and roll be your fuel.
