The only way I could get those busting fish to hit a top water was with a shower blows. Popping it making it spit as much water as I could. Then let it sit. Pop it again. Let it sit. No bites bring it in and try again. If they hit it I would try to make the first one miss. The next one would be the bigger one. I even got doubles on it. I also noticed I got more bites on the smallest shower blows.

Tyler: "I will lightly swing into the hook set when a bass bites." The lie detector determined that was a lie. 😀

great summary on spybait, Tyler! I love using spybait on lanier. As mentioned, I use light braid, and a 6lb floro leader. The longer the better, So mine is 15-18’. Honestly should probably do all floro, but i’m cheap. lol. Plus I will use that 7’ med-light rod for other things like ned too. If i know there are fish on a point, I will do the immediate sloooow retrieve you mentioned. Then i will do the 10-12 sec countdown to try that deeper depth. God bless!

This was also stated about jackall riser lure. I've used an old fashioned swim/ suspending presentation with a 2 inch bobbers then 2 to 3 inches below the bobber a swivel. Then I put 6 to 8 inch 30 lb test leed line with a baitholder hook size 1 with a ribbon tail worm a plum color an proline nightcrawler attractant an bass destroyed this I catch some nice bass using this old fashioned set up I've used as a kid an let me tell you it catches fish. The beauty of it is you keep rod tip parallel to water to keep line tight. Vary retrieve fast moderate pause 3 to 5 or 7 seconds test out pause in between pause pop rod tip or tap handle of rod an bass crush this. Not many people use this set up. I seen the dad's taking kids out using this. It's easy to set hook. Keep rod tip parallel soon as bobber sinks wait 5 to 6 seconds let rod load up an raise rod tip. It works well

Great information. My friend use this bait this pass weekend and he caught them on it. He had two Baits tie together and they only hit the spy bait. Give it a try in clear water.

I like to put a bladed treble on the back hook, gives that spybait an extra flash. With a BFS rod, it's does wonders.

Fantastic video. It is getting to be spybait time of year here in the northeast. It is a technique I haven't really had much success with, but the few fish I have hooked have been so aggressive, it makes me want to figure this technique out so that I can continue to experience that aggressive bite...

Im 70 years old and have been fishing for as long as I can remember. Spy baits will probably shine for 3 to 5 years and then slowly decline as the fish get used to them. Sure they will always catch fish but as so many other baits and techniques gained traction in the past the fish adapt. I discovered this method about 4 years ago and have already noticed a marked decline in bass per hour than the first season. I spend the month of September every year fishing the St Lawrence. The September fishery their is extremely consistent regarding water temps, weather, and fishing patterns. The first September we used spy baits was by far the best smallmouth fishing in both size and quantity we had ever experienced. Each succesive year the results have trended down and the drop shot has become the favored technique again. Ive related this finding to several other anglers and most agree theyve seen the same results.

Great technique for bass but I catch a ton of big trout on them also so much so that I had an issue with DuoRealis hooks coming unscrewed and loosing fish. I agree with 7’6” Rod and long florocarbon 6-8 pound test to 10 pound braid. Also fish slow steady retrieve but every once in a while a jerk jerk twitch when they hit it they crush it!! Good content and explanations as we have come to expect from you

Use their I-class series (says ) on the box. Issue gone with this model (been out for a few years). They increased their action, accuracy, and distance. They have 9 models now as well (originators of the technique) more $ more top 10s more tournament wins on the Realis Spinbait. Continued R&D in their line up.

My son and I have lost numerous spybaits fishing this technique. Due to light line and slow retrieve any snag and this $15+ lure is gone! Lake Erie seems idea but the rocks will break your heart! You will need a pretty steady retrieve to keep at 4-7 feet from my experience.

I will have to try one of these, maybe I can finally get my first fish. My main issue is I cant see anything in the water at my local lake, its always so muddy, and no obvious cover near the shore. Any tips for that?

What would you consider an "average cast" for bass fishing gear (baitcasting 7ft mhf) i know theres variables, ive read that ALL OVER THE INET... But what would be a "good cast" ? I cant cast more than 25-30 yards
