This logic will blow your mind away! (no algorithm)

99% of cubers don't know how to solve a Rubik's cube!
Here’s the logical way to do it. (needs patience)
When I was just 10 years old,
I got my first Rubik's cube
After few days of tinkering,
I solved the first layer.
It felt amazing!
For the next 10 years, I was stuck.
I couldn't solve the rest of it.
Then, I stumbled upon the 'easy way.'
It involved memorizing a bunch of moves.
'Hold it a certain way, and then go like, 'R, L, U... '
switch your grip and do some 'F, U, L...'.
And just like that, I solved it.
That's how most people solve it.
After a few times, your muscle memory kicks in.
But here's the thing, I wasn't really 'solving' anything.
I only memorized someone else's solution.
I had no clue what I was actually doing.
Most do the same thing.
So, a few years ago,
I tried a different approach.
I wanted to unravel the logic.
I tried making sense of algorithms,
But, it didn’t work. They were complex.
I scoured the net like crazy, searching for a logic.
All I found were 'easy' and 'fast' methods.
Hardly any mention of any logic.
Then, one day, I struck gold!
I stumbled upon a Ted-ed video.
'how to solve Rubik's cube with math.'
It was a light bulb moment and it just clicked.
For the next few days, I got down to work.
I came up with my own set of moves
Based on pure intuition and logic.
Finally I SOLVED IT!
Now I could tell EXACTLY why I made turn.
I'm not the fastest solver out there,
And it's definitely not an easy task.
But, it’s truly satisfying.
Below is a glimpse of what it feels like.
It’s not a tutorial by any means
Just to show the experience.
So, what do you think?

Mahesh sir is the ultimate teacher! Any topic he strips it down to the core and builds up with logic, intuition (also lot of passion) and how to think, than just blindly following algorithms. Pls do an entire series on understanding how to solve Rubik's cube without algorithms. No AI can compete with such teachers 🧠😇

I think I have an amazing insight related to education after watching this video. So many students struggle to learn in schools because in schools they don't teach us the logic of the subject. Instead they give us a list of algorithms to memorize. Isn't that incredibly ineffecient? If so many highly educated experts have designed such a system then there must be a reason behind that. So why we cannot implement teaching of logic behind subjects in more and more schools? What is the problem with the logic based approach? Are there any practical concerns if government tries to create such a cirriculum based on logic?

Amazing observation, Hazim. That's a great parallel. To answer your question, it all depends on what we measure. Remember, 'what get's measured, get's managed'. Measuring your understanding of logic, ability to think is super hard. Instead, as a proxy, we measure the outcome of the thinking. But, the standards of assessments are super low. The result is one can crack these exams without really having to think. It's more tedious and boring, but less taxing. And our brains don't like to be taxed. The result, we resort to memorisation, shortcuts, tricks, etc. Because that can help you pass the exams. There is no real motive to do it the hard way.

These algorithms are called "commutators" by cubers by the way.

'Hold it a certain way, and then go like, 'R, L, U... ' switch your grip and do some 'F, U, L...'. I also learnt the way you did when young. I also wondered and thought that the tutorials are not for speed cubing still all they teach is algorithms and was curious about who made these agorithms and how, and how does it always work. Maths surely is a universal language.
