Those commenting that the dog could harm the child. Need to know that Newfoundland’s are also known as Nanny Dogs. They will protect a child no matter what. And they are amazing swimmers known for saving drowning kids/people. So save your worries for kids around far more aggressive digs. This child is safe

100% Big clever softie. He has not a bad bone in his big body. Most likely knows the kid since she was born. Not a cheap pet so this is a lucky family indeed.

For those of you thinking he may harm the little girl or saying he's dumb. I'd suggest you take some time to read up on a Newfoundland. I've had Newfies since 1996 and I have seen their intelligence and how they watch kids. My grandson was walking in yd where there is a creek. He was quite a distance and an adult would have gotten him before he came close but our Newfie ran circles around him, barking and looking at us as if to say get him. We had guests staying in a basement, their baby started crying and the Newfie went to the door, barking until parent brought baby up. Dog smelled him and if checking he was OK. They are great with kids of any age. In some bios it will say not around small kids only because their tail may knock them down but I have always trusted my dogs around my grandkids. When a baby came into the house newfie would go smell him, sigh, then lay down next to baby as if to say ok I'll watch this one too. They can be stubborn but they are in no way dumb.

Legitimately the only way the dog would hurt the little girl is if the house was on fire and while dragging her to safety she was bit a little bit by accident, but maybe not even then because I've seen these dogs rescue people from water and drag them to shore by their clothes.

You can trust a Newfoundland 's judgement. Newfoundland dogs are easy to train, very clever, love kids, gentle despite their size and have big personalities.

That little girl looks so happy and content, and so does her big brother. Beautiful. Bless them both. May they play forever...

That dog. He's lovely. Keeps that little girl company and very happy. And, when he's rolling about, he's got a lovely rumbling growl!

Newfoundlands are just wonderful creatures. Their eyes can melt stones… Besides, I don't know bugger all about parenting, but I guess having such a good friend can give that lady precious life lessons…

Sebastian and Sierra are so bonded; what a joy to watch them together. He takes such good care of her,

I would not only love Sebastian for all of his life, I would die for him, I would die for all the protective and loving Newfies, as well as large parental breed dogs, they deserve to live longer

Beautiful. I miss my big black bear when I see this. He could drive me crazy but was the most gentle giant one could find. In his ten years he didn't show his teeth and growling once even when other dogs attacked him. The bad part was the snoring (like realllly snoring) and the drooling.

Sometimes he looked liked he has a trainer in his mouth with the laces hanging out both sides! Then you discover he has a trainer in his mouth........!

That is the sweetest thing. Him pretendjng he has NO IDEA shes right there so it makes it fun for her. And the way he waited until she said "I'm ready"

@@personalcheeses8073 No. The dog was just dumb. To "pretend" he couldn't find her, the dog would have had to be professionally trained. It's an ANIMAL. The dog was just dumb, not all dogs can "sniff out" things. These are water rescue dogs not hound dogs

I was in New Zealand hitch-hiking in the 1970's with my new British boyfriend (husband now) and I was telling him about Newfoundland dogs. Just then a car drove by with 2 huge Newfoundland dogs taking up the whole back seat. One had his head hanging out the window, drooling in the wind. I couldn't believe it! My grandmother had ESP and sometimes I do too. I'll never forget that moment. This little girl and her dog are precious!

I use to have 6 of these dogs too groom and all of them were fabulous, one day one came matted and extremely smelly this dog was very depressed. I looked it in the eyes and said don't worry I will fix you up took 3 hours afterwards he was so happy different dog I have him biggest hug and kiss

I've had eight (8) Newfies in my life. My first one went to college with me. If I were younger I would have a ninth (9). If all humans had the instincts of Newfoundlands, we ALL a more wonderful world. PS 100% of my estate is going to Newfie Rescues in the U.S.

When we took our Springer to the vet when I was 5 we saw a Newfoundland and I shouted, "It's a bear!". When I found out he was just a Giant dog I gave him hugs and cuddles. I think every kids thinks that way when they're little. I've loved Newfoundlands ever since

They are one of the best dog breeds in the world. They were breed originally to work on boats, helping fishermen drag in nets and rescue fallen sailors which is why they are so gentle. They are part of the group of dogs called the nanny breed which is made up of various large dog breeds that have a stellar reputation with kids. I grew up with bullmastiffs myself but Newfies are very adorable. If you like them there’s a KZread channel of three Newfies and their French bulldog pal just being lovable gentle giants.

@@mirandagoldstine8548 I love the giants! Last year my sister got a St Bernard/Poodle mix (every dog seems to be some sort of Doodle these days). She is a giant with huge paws and even though she's full grown she is still young with a ton of that puppy energy! My sister is training her well because if not she would be a handful, or "pawful" it should be! The only bad thing about these giants (and it is really bad) is that their life expectancy is so short! You may only get 8 years with your big best friend; that would kill me! The dogs my family and I have had all have lived to at least 14, and usually it's 15 or 16. So having at dog "cross the rainbow bridge" when they were only 8, 9 or 10 would be even that more heartbreaking! That is one of the reasons I don't think I could ever get a Newfie or St Bernard or any other giant breed. Also, I would be mad at myself if I didn't get a shelter dog. I know the dogs from breeders need homes too but I still feel I have to go get a rescue.
