This Leopard Gecko Almost Starved to Death

This poor leopard gecko was only fed every 2 weeks. As a result, he nearly starved to death. Thankfully he had a great appetite and made a complete recovery! In this video we show you the day we received him, up until the day he was adopted into a new home :)

This is obviously very different but I have an eating disorder and seeing this leopard gecko recover made me feel really happy and hopeful about my own recovery <3

Emily tearing up at the end. That has to be one of the hardest part is saying goodbye even though they're going to good homes. Thank you guys for doing this for the reptiles!

I'm barely two minutes in but my heart breaks for the poor guy. He's so skinny. I hope he'll make a full recovery.

The moment he started to gobble down the wax worms, I nearly started to cry. That poor baby was starving and he didn't care that he'd been moved or was somewhere new. He just wanted to eat 😔

The fact the those 12 wax worms might have been the FIRST time this dude EVER had a full tummy is incredible and heartbreaking. He was so lucky to come to SD.

I didn't expect body positivity statements about weight gain to a gecko to hit so hard today. The kindness to the kid who was overstimulated at the end and not trying to force conversation was amazing. That kindness takes effort. Thank you for all you do.

This is a true masterpiece: seeing the animal in the before state, all the way to the new home. I hope we get a few more videos like this because this is just so incredible.

Poor guy, it baffles me how his previous owner didn't realise he was underweight and need to be fed more - at least they made the right decision to surrender him to you guys. He made a fantastic recovery and I'm so glad he found a good home. Thank you for all your hard work!

I feel like your channel is the reason I rescue animals now :) I have been caring for a lil zoo in my bedroom now thanks to y’all inspiring me. Animals are so rewarding and therapeutic and I’ve learned to appreciate every one of them

The first snake discovery video I ever watched was Ed and Emily picking up a python and a boa who were in really rough shape. Years later they have an entire zoo but their videos and their rescues haven't changed- there's still an obvious love for these animals and a desire to help the ones who need them. Truly amazing to see.

Unfortunately the previous owner probably bought him from a pet store and they as usual gave wrong information about animal care. Although this day and age we should be researching fully before we get any pet.

seeing a skinny animal will always break my heart, seeing him at the end with his chunky tail and no longer skin and bines made me so incredibly happy. whoever adopts him, I hope they give him all the love and attention gecks deserves

It made me really happy to see Ed and Emily being understanding with the overstimulated kid at the end and not try to force conversation, also once he started to move away Ed didn’t continue to follow him with the camera but redirected right away. It’s such a small thing but really does matter

For my 11th birthday a family friend got me two leopard geckos (horrible gift for a 5th grader) and when we went to a pet store they told us to feed them every two weeks. Needless to say the became severely underweight so we started feeding them more regularly and they recovers within a few months ❤❤❤

I think this little one is a fighter. You said that if he could eat, then he has a good chance of getting better. He didn't even hesitate when you offered him that wax worm. You didn't have to tempt him. And you said he ate TWELVE wax worms. That, to me, says "I want to live. Give me a chance." CLEARLY he is thriving under your excellent care. You absolutely saved his life. He looks so beautiful now. His eyes are brighter. You can tell his spirit is stronger. And it sounds like he's going to an awesome new home. You did good, Emily.

What a transformation, he must have been on the verge of multiple systems failing. He is such a handsome boy, and now he can enjoy the love and care he deserves!

My first reptile was a leopard gecko that my friend's little sister got but didn't want to care for. They only fed him a small number of bearded dragon pellets once a week unless he shed then they wouldn't feed him because he ate his skin. I snatched him up as an early b-day gift and loved him so much. He was a good snuggle buddy and I miss him.
