The name "Siem Reap" comes from the Khmer language and is derived from two words: "Siem" meaning "Thais" and "reap" meaning "defeat," referring to the ancient conflict between the Khmer Empire and the neighboring Thai Kingdoms. The name is said to commemorate the victory of the Khmer King Ang Chan over the Thai forces in the 16th century. The name Siem Reap literally means 'Siam defeated'.

I believe those steep stairs at the main Angkor Wat temple referenced “the stairway to heaven” as the peak of the temple was supposed to represent mount Meru, a mythical mountain where the Gods reside in ancient Hindui religion. There’s so much mysteries behind those temples and I would love to see it when they were at their pinnacle. I’ve heard they were covered with gold and gems.

@@Tartaglia06 Yes, I can’t imagine how beautiful it was during its prime. They said it was a very large thriving city of over 1million people back then. It would be very interesting if we had a time machine to see the civilization back then. The mysteries of how and why it was built fascinates me. I have been trying to know more about it and hopefully soon will get to visit in person.

It’s not called Barai for the water around Angkor Wat. It’s actually called Kak Sin which represents the ocean while the Angkor Temple itself in the middle of water is like Mount Sumeru in Hinduism. Meanwhile, Barai is man-made reservoir for serving the agriculture during the Angkor era.

Lil' cheek sweat there, eh? 😂🍑 Love SE Asia so much, but dreading filming in hot weather like that! I (Brandon) sweat like a mofo' in that kind of humid weather. SO BRUTAL. Angkor Wat was absolutely stunning though. Glad you guys enjoyed yourselves! 😍

Literally all the sweat 😂 so worth it though haha! But yes.. there is nothing like getting a home and taking a much needed shower after. We made the mistake of not going earlier and next time we won’t.. when they say it’s big it really is HUGE! Thank you! We still had the best day though as it truly is incredible ☺️🙏🏼

@@ChaseandShelbs We started quite early- maybe 6/7AM and went for at LEAST 8 or 9 hours. Absolutely dead (and drenched) by the end. ☠️🥵

I, as a Cambodian always wondered how did our hero kings and his people made this possible? Those temples are perfectly measured inch by inch , this is beyond human ability. They must have had a magic power to build those temples, just my silly thinking and speculation because way back then, those temples are magical.

The head of the sculpture is in Britain , Thailand, and france museums the most than many others country and private collectors property aswell.. Ankorwat is a Hindu temple build by Khmer Hindu king Soriyavaman the 2nd,but the muster architecture is his head royal guru brahman sage the head minister whose help him to overthrown his uncle's, Ankorwat is build for political reason as much as religious to win the heart of the Ankorian middle and high class citizen from the Khmer prehistoric King whose start the temple races for political and religious honor.
