Been using them a little while; something to note is that concertina armored CAN be killed with one throw, you just have to hit them in the head.

@@cheekyminx3619 A concertina armored will tank a throwing axe to the chest, unlike the regular armored. You need a headshot to kill them.

I feel like I've killed them before with one throw not even aiming for the head really. Two is max. Light the shadow event trained me in the way of the axe lol

That kill at 6:08 shows why throwing axes are excellent for PvP, because it changes the peek timing. It's basically a bullet that's flying while you are already in cover.

Yeah, that's the main thing that puts me off of it is the delay of throwing them. Sure you can use it that way but it's tough if you don't know exactly where they are.

You can do that with the Winfield lol

Started using it with calling bird skin when I got it, and oneshotting all the AI is so nice. Only problem is getting stuck under the body of AI, and you need to get it when the ragdoll despawns.

Unfortunately because horses don't despawn some can be list under the map if you hit them in the head and lie down when they die

The biggest weakness of the axes is losing them to bugs & clipping :(

I find your tool kit to be the best tool kit in the game in my opinion. The one annoying thing with the throwing axes is they're constantly falling out of the world for me. I kill a grunt and they fall upside down, and I can't even pick the throwing axe up until their body despawns, and that's if it hasn't fallen under the map which I can't tell until then...

Something I've noticed which your clips give a great example for: the throwing axes become much stronger if you have the high ground. Don't need to worry too much about the arc and their hitbox is lined up for easy one shots.

Tip: When you charge the melee attack, the arms cover part of your head and your torso, it means that you can run crazy to your opponents and if they try to headshot you they will probably fail and hit you in the arms instead of the head providing you time enough to close the gap between and kill them face to face. It sounds crazy but it works sometimes what makes it OP

actually, unless theyre using a bow/crossbow, the shot will go through the arm, hitting the head anyway.

Particularly awesome axe toss after the nitro shots!

I've been playing it since it came out in the event and instantly become part of my standard build. I'm happy that it finally gets recognition

Correction - Concertina armored dies to 1 headshot as well, just not to body damage

I like them with the Silent Nagant. Works well to remove all AI extremely quickly and quietly. Tho the melee stamina drain is a little too intense imo

I use the throwing axes as my main melee tool after getting packmule and running double stamina shots. the throwing axes take tons of stamina, but with double stam theyre very powerful

Nice, this is my exact tool setup, just with axes and chokes swapped places. Unless I'm solo, then I use concertina trip wire instead of chokes.

I’ve been using the throwing axe since the light in the shadow event. Pair it with a stam shot. You can kill anything in the bayou

Throwing axes are my new fourth tool as well; became my favorite tool over the knuckle knife very quickly

They need a mild buff in the stamina consumption area. Like the fact you can swing a full sized ax or bomblance more than just some hatchets is abit silly. Even one or two extra swings and they’d be perfect. Though getting a thrown kill on an enemy hunter is always a *chefs kiss*

The retrieval damage made them way more viable against weaker AI. I still like throwing knives for killing meatheads though.

YES! Throwing axe validation! The only thing I need now are more throwing axe skins!

The real one cool thing of axes that you can cancel swap animation by throwing animation. With the knives you cannot.

Also I'm curious- do you use a mouse button for your 4th tool slot? I use my mouse for consumables, but I haven't got anything but the default buttons for tools.

I'm super glad you highlighted their efficacy in PvE. They're probably the strongest PvE tool in the game next to the knuckle knife. They 1 tap armored and hives. I'm pretty sure they can 1 tap concertina armored as well. I still feel like I learned a lot, here. Great video! Too bad it still takes 1k exp with the worst weapon in the game to unlock it

The cool thing about the throwing axes is that u should be able to one hit (heavy meele) hunters to the chest, when u have the perk. The base dmg on heavy meele is 142. Let's assume the perks ads +8 dmg or more ;)

we know that the other perk added in LtS, for the bow, is 10% (was 25%) so its reasonable to assume Assailant is at least matching that, yeah

You can kill concertina armored with one shot if you score a headshot

You can even kill concertina armored in one hit if you headshot. Just wait for him to raise his arm to attack you

Also with assailant I believe it becomes a one hit kill with melee

Meathead when rachta enters the liar: "why am I hearing boss music? Why am I hearing anything at all?!"

They do such great melee damage against players in pvp too, more than the heavy knife.

Did you know that the caldwell chain pistol is the only cheap pistol that doesnt do a chamber spin animation after not reloading to full ? I dont know how practically applicable this fact is.

Yes they are great. The downside is they still vanish too often with the killed AI.

I always rock tomahawks, more now that they are cheaper than throwing knives. I think tomahawk was 60 dollars when they were introduced. Now at 30 there's almost no reason to use knives

40 dollar knifes (6 of them) vs 30 dollar axes (2 of them). I like axes but I think knifes have more value. - You can literally do everything he did here with knifes except kill a full hp player with one throw to the chest. - Plus you can use knifes to kill hives on roofs without running up to pick them up again because you have more of them. - You can use knifes to kill dog/chicken cages and not run inside again to pick them up because you are not limited to 2 - You can throw a knife into a zombie chest and pull it out and it dies, you need 2 knifes for an armored this way.

Great insight! But honestly the throwing axe takes too much stamina for casual use in my opinion. I wish it was more efficient with stamina.

When the event started, I used exactly this loadout and one guy from Discord laughed at me for using it, saying having both knuckle knife and throwing axe is stupid. Well he just didn't understand. Now you are even making a video about it.

Yes, enemies that disappear after shooting them once has happened to me on several occasions now. Can anyone explain why that happens ? Is it a cheat?

There are two things I don't like about knuckle knife. It isn't an edge weapon so you cannot use it to cut wire. The other is the window to not stab with it is tiny. I have to be very deliberate when punching immolaters because I have found it to be very easy accidentally stab one with the knuckle knife.

@@RachtaZ the throwing axes do solve that issue. I am mostly grumbling that it seemed like everyone is exclusively using the knuckle knife. I believe I get why. You have a blunt and piercing damage source from one slot. I have just found the lack of a blade weapons, solved by the throwing axe, didn't seem worth it.

I, honestly, just take throwing axes as my main melee tool, too. I don't often find myself rushing people with melee unless I have a bayonet or something, anyway, so the jank these thing have with trying to hit hunters doesn't often come into play. Another thing to not is if you do run out of melee stam fighting dogs, the light attack will still one shot them to the head. I'm, honestly, surprised throwing axes aren't meta.

To this day i still dont understand why the tomahawk and throwing knives in gunslinger mode dont work like the bomblance... left click melee right click aim and right click + left click = aim and throw.... i hate that

maybe someone here can answer this question, im just wondering: how is a hit with the throwing axes metal end guaranteed? when you throw the axe it seems to rotate constantly, i wonder how the developers handled the issue that when you throw an axe ingame, it has to always hit; hitting an enemy with a throwing axes wooden grip would be quite unsatisfying i guess. is the axe that is being thrown actually despawned at the moment of impact and another one spawned in the correct rotation in the hit spot?

I've been running throwing knives for a long time now, maybe it's time for a switch. What would you say the benefits of running throwing knives over axes, and vice versa? I feel like the axe hits a lot harder, although its got more of an arc to it.

The benefit is that the throwing axe melee is extremely and exponentially useful (and you can still throw it)

Knives are slightly cheaper and because there’s more of them you can throw them to kill multiple grunts if you don’t have silent killer for melee without giving away your position. Throwing axes are better in nearly every other way other than that though.

Throwing Knives are more plentiful and have better trajectory. More easily spammed against tough AI and bosses, with better total pull-out dmg via more knives. Knives are more versatile in terms of overall game use (lanterns, distractions, etc), despite lacking any OHK vs anything outside of headshots. Throwing Axes (though only 2-3 total with worse projectile drop) can brute force AI thru body shots (hives, armoreds), leading to faster, stealthier movement in these cases. While overall versatility is reduced, you gain a super effective Armored and concertina wire remover, as well as an emergency OHK vs players. Depends on playstyle and loadout, but both are very effective for their uses.

how can I not throw them, but attack with them like a knife ??

I see the uses of this against ai for sure. No question. But in PvP while not bad I feel like there are just better options because you have to lead your opponent a lot to hit which makes it really hard to aim.

I much prefer throwing knives because you get more of them and they use less stamina - however the wire clearing is pretty compelling! I wonder how well throwing knives clear wire with assailant

I’d assume terribly as the animation is a ‘stab’ with assailant, so expect it’s pierce damage.

The perk basically turns throwing knives into reg knives in terms of melee. So 2 light swings to break any wire
