This is why you need to get your tetanus shot

#tetanus #vaccine #injection #TT
Everything you need to know about Tetanus is explained in this video within 7 minutes. Tetanus is an infection caused by bacteria called Clostridium tetani. When the spores of these bacteria enter the body, they release a toxin called Tetanospasmin that causes painful muscle contractions. Incubation period of Tetanus includes 3 to 21 days. Average is 14 days. The Classical triad of tetanus include Lock Jaw, Risus Sardonicus and Opisthotonos. The best method to prevent Tetanus is the Tetanus Vaccination or T.T shot. Tetanus injection or shot should be taken during pregnancy as well. It gives passive immunity to the baby. When Umbilical cord is cut it can cause tetanus in newborns and it’s called Tetanus Neonatorum. Tetanus injection might be painful but it is a must for everyone. Booster shots should be taken by adults every 5 to 10 years as well. Tetanus can be spread by road traffic accidents, rusty nail or objects, piercings, tattoo, dog bites, human bite etc and if a wound comes in contact mud, dirt and dust. This bacterium Clostridium Tetani is a gram positive bacteria and shaped like a drumstick. On Blood Agar it shows swarming growth and it grows well on Robertson’s cooked broth. It shows Alpha hemolysis which later becomes beta hemolysis due to Tetanolysin. Classical injury of tetanus is usually from a Rusty nail lying on the ground.

I hope I never get Tetanus symptoms. That image of the person that is arched up like that is terrifying. I would hate for that to be me. My last Tetanus booster shot (a Tdap, I think) was quite some time ago. If I remember correctly, I think my last booster was in October of 2019. That was over three years ago. And, I'm not the most careful person. To make a long story short, I don't sleep well and I'm quite clumsy. As a result, I often have cuts, scrapes, and bruises (nothing serious, but still...). That image of the person with the backward arching is very cringe-worthy. I hope that never happens to me.

@@fillthegap But, it's been more than three years since I took it last. If my memory is correct, I believe it was a Tdap. I vaguely remember requesting it when I got it at the doctor's office. I know the recommendation says to take it every 10 years (or every 5 years, in my particular case, given how clumsy I am and how well that works out), but I often start to worry when it's been about 2 or 3 years since the last Tetanus Shot.

@@fillthegap You see, I have no records of my childhood and adolescent booster shots. I mean, I assume that I had them, but I can't remember them now. I can only remember the last three booster shots and when I got them. October 1, 2019 (as was hinted at before) July 22, 2015 October 14, 2009 When I got them before October 14, 2009, I really don't remember. My previous doctors who had given me them are either retired or long gone by now.

@@Truerealism747 Tetanus is deadly...and extremely painful, judging from the symptoms mentioned in this video. I would much rather take my chances with the vaccine than get the deadly toxin itself.

After three doses, almost everyone is initially immune, but additional doses every ten years are recommended to maintain immunity. A booster shot should be given within 48 hours of an injury to people whose immunization is out of date.
