I interviewed for a high-paying government job after the shutdown: I was perfectly qualified for it and had the best interview I've ever had. They had sent me a chart of their department and they had A LOT of openings because of the Great Resignation and retirements. I had the 3-person interviewing panel almost hypnotized, I was on point on every question, and at the end the main interviewer told me, very enthusiastically, "we will reach out to you soon!" I NEVER heard from them again. No follow-up, no denial letter, no "we decided to go with other candidates". I followed up twice and never got a response. To this day, it is the weirdest job thing I've ever seen. Eventually, I talked to other people who told me they had similar experiences.

employment coin! If you get enough of that coin you can swap it for a job. Makes sense because many people would give up their job if offered say fifty thousand usd;)
I love the way you refer to the importance of raising a family at home, as a full time job. Western Societies have indeed forgotten this. Thank you for reminding us all.

Plenty of shitty wage slave jobs. Nothing meaningful and you need three of them to make it. No thanks. Left the sector and invest. Never looked back
I have been unemployed since I graduated 6 years ago, all companies ask me for at least 3 years of experience, if I don't have it, they don't hire me, or they ask for more education, which means more money to invest, money that doesn't I have it because I can't find work.

@Bit-while_going

Slowly the dollar will deflate as the petrodollar loses it's power and people will be able to live more easily on their lower salaries, with intermittent money printing by the Fed causing wages to spike and unemployment to intensify, and periods with low printing causing more deflating and prices slide down along with wages. Eventually the middle class may recover some as their currency becomes stable enough to back a mortgage, 401k, car insurance, an actually productive job, etc.

I've been recommending volunteer work for a while to people looking for work that is above entry level, especially if they are young and don't have experience that is listed as a requirement for other positions. You meet a certain type of people while doing volunteer work that are rare and often influential over hiring decisions. This is the path to being friends with your boss.
@matthewnirenberg
Ай бұрын
Sadly all that will do is give businesses free work and never lead to real work. Businesses want the most qualified people for the least. If that can be achieved through "applicant testing" or "volunteering" then they'll never hire people. In AU & NZ volunteering results in zero prospects as you're going broke whilst giving free labour to a business and gaining nothing from it. Volunteering should never appear on your CV as it purely shows you're a schmuck who will work for nothing and suggests to businesses that you're a great candidate for exploiting as free labour. Volunteering only leads to good networking opportunities if you're volunteering as a judge (or other official role) in major events such as engineering or racing competitions. The days of "meeting people who are often influential over hiring decisions" by volunteering are long gone as the people with that power delegate the menial tasks to others so you no longer meet the head of HR or anyone from the board - they're the only ones influential when it comes to hiring these days.
"healthy unemployment rate"
@user-di3zy2ey7v
26 күн бұрын
It's because of the unemployment and inflation duality. Look for it online but I will leave you a short explanation here: ""When unemployment is low, inflation tends to rise. When unemployment is high, inflation falls."" Now I'm sure you are wondering about both being high. That's called Stagflation, it's not natural, usually the government is to be blamed, and means the country is fkd
I'm 33 & I can't find a job because I retired back in 2021 after the first bull run! I'm not ludicrously rich ie no private jet or yacht but my time is my own, finally no longer a slave to the clock & grind! Mwahahahaha.

as a corporate recruiter I can say that people have unrealistic expectations about work.. they want it all. Construction, customer support, hospitality, F&B any many other industries are severely short-staffed BUT people dont want to do the hard work.... so these companies move to automation... once automation catches up then those unrealistic works will truly be out of a job!
@mradventurer8104
Ай бұрын
Ok, some truth in that but corporate recruiters can also be unrealistic. They want applicants to be very flexible, do lifelong learning and think in boxes. If you don't fit in their box they reject you although you may be able to do the work well. I am not necessarily talking about you but I have seen this happen.

Ppl can't find a job because they suck at applying for jobs. Even when I became a union carpenter, ppl came in flip flops and band T shirts. I've only ever not gotten the job I applied for once. Half of them said they have never gotten an after interview thank you letter before, that's high school level knowledge.
@matthewnirenberg

Maybe where you live but outside the USA it makes no different if you're good at applying for jobs. The reality is unless you can land the job, you can't get qualified as a tradie as all the courses are apprenticeships when there's zero legitimate need for them to be so - they could all be taught in practical classes in workshops with mock-up scenarios. The days of being allowed to "learn on the job" are long gone as laws and regulations have made that illegal as you need the qualification and licence to do the job. You're lucky enough that you were able to become qualified before most of the current BS came into force.
If u can't find a job right now u are pretty much a loser... most people I know have.2 or 3 jobs and a side hustle.

The following is from everyone outside the USA: Okay genius - explain how you can get the professional licences as a tradie or an engineer without the jobs to meet the experience threshold to be allowed to practice solo, without being able to get the jobs. There's many seriously qualified people who are stuffed because the jobs are gone, the businesses are gone or because the govt has introduced new regulations that make it impossible to comply with unless you've been in the industry 10+ yrs already. Also, how do you get qualified to be a tradie without landing the job as without the job you can't do the apprenticeship which gets you qualified as the courses are only available as apprenticeships - "learning on the job" is illegal.
