I blame the police and the citizens because they both go off of emotions trying to see who have the biggest balls while only showing who has the biggest ego! They all need to learn respect. And a lot of it falls back to the police because they're supposed to diffuse situations but instead they ignite them because they're bringing chips on their shoulders to a person that didn't put it there. If they talk to these people like adults instead of matter factly as if they're not humans and are better, then a lot of their encounters would go smoothly. The ones that they should go in at 10 on they don't. The ones they shouldn't, they do and end up raising the situation to 20. Then the citizens should learn to own up to their faults, as well as how to shut up and listen. If they stop playing stupid games then they wouldn't win stupid prizes or lose everything including their lives trying to prove dumb points. Also maybe if police got out and tried to talk to people in the community instead of letting their first meeting with the citizens be them arresting someone or trying to get leads then things would change.

Will be 60 years old soon and I wholeheartedly agree! I think with the prevalence of cell cameras, police allow issues to go to far, because in some cases they are damned if they do/damned if they don't. Also the disrespect, parents defending their child's behaviour, are a reflection of society of a whole at the moment.

This seems like a good case to sue the department. Even if they come up as having a valid reason to tow the car I'm pretty sure the case could be made that because of the complete lack of competence shown when handling it. 24:01 99% of the time, I am siding with the officers. But I think they could have explained the whole insurance suspension better. I don't even get it. If he just bought the car, and the plates came with the car, how did the plates get the suspension for mandatory insurance? They never explajned it to him. They just kept repeating the same confusing line. When he asked how, they just repeated again, the same confusing line. He has proof of insurance, registration, etc. It seems like he did everything right. They could have been much better with him and explained it in a different way. He was obviously confused and wasn't aggressive in any way, in the beginning. Did the person before him who owned the car have the violation? This just seemed wrong to me. Granted the relatives definitely didn't help much, but it shouldn't have escalated to te point of arrest, if they would have been a little more informed over the problem.

Why is my license plate suspended in Illinois? If the registered owner and insurance agent cannot provide proof that the vehicle was covered by a liability insurance policy on the date of the initial verification attempt, the vehicle's registration will be suspended.

I believe they had insurance. I went through something similar. Never had a lapse and to this day do not know why the cop or his computer said I did. I didn’t act like a fool though. Kept my cool and went to my insurance agent. I got the paperwork. Went to the DMV and they handed me my plates back no money paid. Crazy shit, but I can attest it does happen. Cops and their computers do make mistakes.

But their towing the car because of no insurance. Can someone please make that make sense. And it was on his property. Oh that made me so mad.

People think that just because they have an insurance card, they're in the clear. If you pay on a monthly basis and you miss a payment or a payment is returned, your insurance can be cancelled for non-payment at ANY POINT during the policy term. If you stop paying, your insurance WILL be cancelled.

To be fair, we've had to call for a supervisor for cops a couple of times before because their boys were way too aggressive and prejudice. One time the supervisor gave buddy treatment to the person who was technically in the wrong (our neighbor, whom we were fighting with); and the other time the supervisor told his man to get his head out of his ass (he actually said that) because he was way over the line. Calling for a more experienced and higher up person does work sometimes. It really depends on things like how corrupt your department is. Our area is fairly corrupt, so it's a real toss-up.

If the initial verification attempt does not verify that a vehicle is covered by a statutorily required minimum liability insurance policy, that vehicle will be checked a 2nd time after 30 days. This process allows our office to determine whether the vehicle was sold, placed into storage or otherwise not being driven on the roadways. If the 2nd verification attempt does not confirm a liability insurance policy for the vehicle, the registered owner of the vehicle will be sent a registration suspension letter. The vehicle owner and insurance company will be required to prove that the vehicle was covered by a liability insurance policy on the date of the initial verification attempt within 30 days of the date of the letter through their insurance agent. If the registered owner and insurance agent cannot provide proof that the vehicle was covered by a liability insurance policy on the date of the initial verification attempt, the vehicle's registration will be suspended. In order to have the registration suspension removed, the vehicle owner is required to obtain liability insurance and pay a fee of $100 to reinstate the vehicle's registration.
