Combat looks enjoyable, much slower but definitely going to have more impact when abilities are cast. Not sure why people are shitting on animation quality and UI when they have explicitly stated it's placeholder for their Alpha version of the game. You're judging a half baked cake on how appetizing it is. No shit the UI looks like it's from 2014 they said it's just temporary while they work things out. Combat being slow and less "flashy" is a net positive in my book. Definitely looks less cluttered and chaotic compared to most games, and even still if the gameplay loop is fun and the classes feel unique and diverse people will play it a ton.

@@tang6654 It's an access key... For supporters, they've specified that multiple times, for alpha only which is a literal testing bed for the game, constant wipes and all. Besides you get free subscription time/cosmetics once it releases to compensate anyway if you're really into the game. Game is already funded till completion, they've said it over and over. They don't need the money until launch when they'll get it it from subs.

Essentially you have two options players fund the game and help make it what we want or some massive company comes in and funds it and almost certainly ruins the game with microtransaction and ptw features.

Um they've explained numerous times its still in development. There's still alot of animations n engineering of the abilities to do. Can't fix something that isn't finished yet.

To be honest, combat won't feel as flashy and fluid as BDO, it probbably never will. But why is it copium to think that it will improve? It improved from Alpha 1, but they're still testing. Not a single company makes a finalized version (or close to it) of combat in alpha testings, its absurd. I'm 100% sure animations will ATLEAST improve, its not that crazy.

@@mr.mayhem88 I've alpha tested games, they rarely change much about core elements like combat. Alpha is usually a great indicator of the finished product. I've heard the same excuses made for years across multiple titles, people never learn. Sometimes, they even manage to make the game worse from the alpha.

I've given this a lot of thought, and actually contemplated the idea 2 weeks. When New World got announced, I was thrilled, because the interface, the graphics, and so on looked amazing. Then, as time went on, videos of the combat got released. Lo and behold - animation locking, and we also had the "gliding effect". These kill games. When your character moves as if they're sliding, when you press a button and there's no "oomph" to the animation, and, worse yet, when you constantly spam buttons that seem to be meaningless, all to attack a target in front of you, well, all these things create a disconnect between you and what you're pressing. And that's basically ensuring the death of your game. It's really sad, because the devs have spent years and millions to create this game, and it's dead before it even released, and they don't even know it. The combat feeling good is - as you said - the most important thing. If things don't feel good to press, people won't care about your other systems. It's why WoW, even after all these years, still manages to be the only competing MMORPG, and by a large extent. They don't have animation-locking, you can sidestep things naturally, you can cancel spells, you have meaningful rotations that are supported by great animations, and the graphics are timless, since they're cartoonish-realistic. The worst part is - there's no way this gets changed, dooming a game that had so many resources poured into it. Additionally, people are coping that this is placeholder or that "things aren't ready". Come on. Things will be as they are shown, if we're talking about huge systems like the combat one. It's not like they'll redo the entire game around it, even if they wanted to. I'll try to AoC, just to (hopefully) prove myself wrong, but every single MMORPG that's been announced in the past - if it had a bad combat system, it was just dead...and they all were.

i am not even joking the archer is a 1V1 copy to wow hunter specifically MM(marksman)

the effects are optimized for large scale pvp and for clarity, it was previously more shiny but in mass pvp you coudnt see anything. effects in BDO looks better but you have to trun them off anyway, I prefer simple effects with ability to see whats going on :D

I completely agree with one concept about ashes of creation. Is that its combat isn’t as good as other games however if you compare it to when it’s first released it’s like night and day. Either way if the combat turns out good then great if not it’s fine. There are a lot of other great games out there . Edit: also one thing to note one of the best games in the world Boulders gate 3 is a turn based game. It’s all about how it feels to play it.

We need a BDO content creator to take all the game system promises of incoming MMOs, and compare with existing BDO mechanics to raise awareness (for example Ashes of Creation trade caravan protect/attack with BDO's Saturday Wagon from Heidel to Calpheon before siege, or day and night cycle for both games or seasons and snow build up in both games). Same for the combat too, a side by side video comparison with this Archer and BDOs Ranger and Archer with similar moves, jumps and slides... World is oblivious to BDO's depth and game play because of its cancer enhancement, grinding and p2w systems creates infame.

it's going to end up playing like some uninspired instance centric themepark wow-clone and people are going to drop it like a hotpotato orrrr it will play like an Archeage we should have gotten and there might be a pvp mmo renaissance again?

Everyone have their own taste. For me Bdo is very mediocre too. Combat is fun for a bit, but endless grind and being able to lose your gear progress in PvP/pve is such a stupid thing. I do enjoy target mmos more.

The PvP used to be incredible but you get into higher tiers of fighting and it's just super armor rotations until someone slips up and gets one combo'd *yawwn*

I've never really cared about insane combat though. I want a Mmorpg that feels like a Mmorpg. I want guild acitivies, party activities and things I can grind for however long I want without being locked. FFXIV is a great example. I think the combat is dogshit but I still put well over 1000 hours into it because of how well designed everything around combat is. I can't speak for everyone but I can atleast say thats true for me and my mates.

BDO combat is great. Too bad the rest of the game is meh. Not saying AoC combat is some S tier revolutionary stuff, but lets be honest, it'll be another 5 years before the game releases, lol. Hopfully they'll smooth things out. I'm sure the game will have its niche playerbase and thats good. BDO players will still have BDO. Would have been cool if crimson desert was a MMO, though.

To be fair, I think that the game is very ambitious especially on different systems like taxes/player building etc. System/things you can do in the world even the mounts are all great as for the combat, it's nowhere near bdo but it looks good enough to play with. Hopefully there are alot of raids since this looks like a game that would look really cool with.

You can’t have BDO level combat with tab targeting. You can’t have skillful gameplay with tab targeting. So the PvP will have severe class balancing issues that will ruin the PvP experience.

The game will be a huge disappointment. All games that have been hyped so much have always disappointed. Basically, it's impossible to meet the requirements when there's so much hype about something. As soon as it's released, there will be loads of videos where people complain about the unfinished game and the unfulfilled promises. The value of the game only exists as long as it's not released.

I dont know when the name Ranger became synonymous with taking on animal attributes. as far as i can tell the Ranger class is loosely based off LoTR Aragorn, who was a ranger and didnt seem to have any ability of being able to take on animal attributes. So technically BDOs Ranger seems to have a correct take on what a ranger is as both fight using bow/arrow and a sword, and not whatever this nonsense is.

Rangers being a pet taming class ability isn't necessarily a traditional view of the ranger no. But in fantasy novels they've traditionally been known to kinda live n thrive in the wilds and kinda be in tune w nature. Trackers n what not like Aaragon.

Tbh the combat doesn't need to be like BDO's. Honestly nothing is wrong with tab target combat. It needs to be done well though, it needs to feel good to watch and play. Different combat methods can be done right. BG3 being turned based is a good example. A lot of people are not fans of turn based combat, tried BG3 and actually enjoyed it, and that is because it was something that was actually well. (Outside of BG3 just being a genuinely good game) Tab target with hotbarred abilities can be done well, there can be complexities with it. I agree if they just make it 1, 2 ,3, 4 repeat yes that can be boring. But if they make abilities interreact well with each other, changing functions, ect it can be fun.

im just gonna go ahead and let you know that the top 2 mmo right now have WAY worse combat than this....ffxiv, wow .....both bigger than BDO with way shittier combat... PS: every guy saying that we are cope-ing by saying ASHES will not take players from bdo are just trying to justify their 750 gs LOL, keep going in circles boy, im not judging, im doign the same thing, but when ashes comes out, ima grab bdo and yeeeeeeeetttttt

comparing 2 different mmo's and trying to expect the same stuff is cope. bdo has been out for years are still all we get is lifeskills that will die off fast after the update then left to go stale, boring solo grind spot that offer more then duo or group grind spots, lack luster guild and team based content and no raids or repeatable boss content (not weeklys). i have 17,000 hours on bdo to this date and it hasnt changed much other than new classes so you can buy costumes and new map/monsters updates so you have to spend countless hours trying to get the new gear/items by carrying on going around in circles

Bro combat doesn’t look remotely appealing to me and that indicates to me, this will appeal to a different group of mmo players than those who play BDO.

Each hunt does different things man. Now you might be right, everyone using the same in PVE. But for Pvp the different huntts will be used!

0:20 the effects are specifically being left in their roughest first draft for the express reason that as the game develops, they dont know what will stick and what wont so rather than waste time refining the spell effects and making them look pretty, they wanna wait and get the alpha 2 test under way to see if the core systems and mechanics are good and see what will and what wont need to change......... jesus my guy, cross off 'the spell effects look bad' on the bingo card.....

BDO combat isn't the type of game they are going for so... i wouldn't be expecting that anyway. They are going more for classic wow - wrath of the lich king type where you have to stop and drink mana pots every so often. Slower combat not kill thousands of mobs in a blender type combat :P They talked about this in the past. People still compare it to something it will never be regardless 🤦‍♂ Also another reason most go with tab target is because of desync. Waiting for a global cooldown mixed with slower combat gives time for the server to catch up especially in pvp.

Honestly yeah. The combat looks terrible. Why does everyone talk about BDO combat being the best and still no one tries to do something similar? It seems like a way to print money if you can have it plus a solid MMO with a large deep world with good group and solo content.

The speed of bdos combat isnt what makes it good. The smoothness, graphics, and action style are. Slow it down to .75x and it might even be better. Criticism of AoC combat is fair and i agree, but there adds another level to combat when its slower as more strategy can be employed.

BDO might be better than BNS currently but in the past no game was even close to being better than the original combat in Blade and Soul not even BDO. Sadly it was ruined and dumbed so far down by ncsoft it is no longer a decent game even the pvp in BDO doesnt compare to what pvp use to be in Blade and Soul I truly hate NCSOFT ruining the combat and destroying their game blade and soul being dead is the only reason i ever touched BDO but in my eyes BDO doesnt compare to Blade and Souls original release and silverfrost expansion there was so much more to the combat in BNS than there is in BDO as BDO is good and flashy but def not on BNS level

Nothing wrong with a hardcore pvp mmo. I think it's fine to have a niche game. But you are not wrong either, if there isn't enough, and things are not implemented well, it will definitely struggle to pick up traction and survive. And they do have a lot of ambitious goals.

There's nothing hardcore about their implementation of PvP. Progression is tied to the node system and that one is tied to group/guild PvP (attack/defense). Apart from that "open world pvp/griefing" is heavily restricted and harmful if there is no consent. We'll see how it plays out but atm nothing the devs are trying to do points to "hardcore" PvP.

The only thing that will kill BDO, is when BDO 2.0 comes out. If they released BDO now with the Crimson Desert aesthetics, with no gender locked classes, a $20 monthly sub fee, and very minimal cash shop; it would kill current BDO as well as most of the other MMOs new and upcoming.

In BDO you can pay all you want, which will be a ridiculous amount but you can and more than likely still lose PvP fights if your game skill is trash lol. There is no real winning in PvE other than walking around in circles, killing monsters a little bit faster, dont know if pay to win really applies here lol

I hope that this game is nothing like BDO..... I thought BDO was a boring grind fest and the graphics were not that great in my opinion. Also this is pre-alpha 2 you shoulda seen the combat of WoW in Pre-Alpha. It was way worse than this.Most of the UI and things you complain about are all placeholder.

I've been following AoC for years at this point and I can say that the combat has come a long way. But it doesn't come even remotely close to competing with BDO. its more comparable to ESO combat imo. which I don't hate btw

Idk how anyone could see this and think it rivals BDO combat wise, it looks closer to runescape. I've been waiting for a good MMO that can compete with BDO for a while now but AoC (at least the class models and combat,) looks like it was made in 2007. I understand it is just in alpha still so maybe they'll actually improve it to a point that it's even in the same galaxy as BDO, but for now I don't get the hype.

AoC will for sure have more players than BDO. P2W and endless grind keep people from really caring about BD in modern day.

Anyone who truly believes Ashes of Creation will somehow rival the good mmorpgs out there, is straight up coping because they don't know what to play and are just desperately hoping Ashes will scratch that itch. I'm with you, the game looks underwhelming and I can't believe they are settling for mediocre graphics in this day and age. You can have great in-game systems without sacrificing good graphics.

It still looks decent, but the character models are weird, there are pop-ins everywhere, it is overly post-processed and everything looks blurry; not to mention the fact that it is so bright it fcking kills your eyes. Now look at the downsides: - the lag and desync that is there partly because they have a proprietary engine and it's probably harder to optimize the networking - frame drops EVERYWHERE no matter what PC you have, you'll still need to play on low settings when in node wars / sieges just to get better performance SO YOU DON'T GET TO ENJOY THE SHINY GRAPHICS AFTER ALL HUH? Just for like maybe AFK-ing in Heidel. - Probably the most stupid one: input actions/DPS are tied to the FPS and the FPS is uncapped, which means that if we both have the same gear, similar skill and play the same class but you have 144 FPS and I have 60, you will probably win because you have more frames available to do things than I do. - This problem is present in fighting games too, like Tekken and what not, BUT ON THOSE GAMES THE FPS IS CAPPED FOR EVERYONE STRICTLY FOR THAT REASON :) So yeah, enjoy cutting-edge shiny graphics at the cost of your gameplay being worse in 95% of the aspects. Cutting edge graphics last a few years, good smooth gameplay and artstyle last forever.

BDO players scared to walk away from giving PA thousands of dollars. The true copium. Sunk Cost Fallacy at it finest. Criticize everything else up and coming while mmo's with far worse combat still have way more players than BDO. I love BDO and if Ashes can do half of what they claim with just average combat. Say goodbye to a shitload of your friends in BDO.

What a hot take. BDO players not wanting to walk away from BDO has almost nothing to do with Sunk Cost Fallacy. I’ve spent maybe $1500 over 6 years on costumes and other stuff. The reason why I wouldn’t walk away from BDO is: 1. The QoL updates have made the game way better. 2. The P2W is non existent lol 3. The combat to this day is still unmatched and going from using BDOs action combat to a game where all you have to do is press 1 through to 9 is self briefing🤣

The amount of crons needed to IV fallen god or V Deborekah stuff 100% is funded by p2w wether from you or not. The combat while good is the most buggy of any MMO. Seiges/node wars are a shit fest of lag and desync. QoL is bad game design out of the gate. Every MMO has this problem and BDO isn't special for doing it. They all eventually add QoL.
