ia does basically mean "land of" so it's reasonable if you're basing the country's language on Latin, or if it's just a translation convention "It's called Koz*lateral click*'nuz, but for my English-speaking audience's sanity it's Koznia." or something.

I actually have some sort of world history for an isekai i want to write. Basically there were these two alien civ (the ancient, who came from the milky way and the elders, whom came from the wandering solar systems) long story short, these two had a war 7 milion years ago, both hybernated for an unknown reason. Meanwhile, the various worlds around the galaxy started to form sentient life. Then, about 75.000 years ago, some members of the two species woke up and decided to an experiment: they terraformed a donut-shaped world, put life from around the galaxy on it, and then put members of sentient species on it to see what happened.

Meanwhile im over here trying to figure out how a river would realistically flow through the terrain and using mountain rain shadows to create deserts and shit.

And that's the beauty of worldbuilding! That you're able to build an entire world or sometimes even a system or galaxy, but just a single random city has enough story and content to keep you busy for days if not weeks!

Worldbuilding is also trying to use Gplates and yelling at the computer because the measure velocity tool is not working right and it’s showing the velocity of that plate as going at ~0.07 cm/yr when I did the math myself and it should be going ~2.1 cm/yr and so now you have to just trying and use it without the measure velocities feature and what you end up with may or may not be possible. I’m okay (but not really)

​@@LegendaryGigaNigga-zi4vu Love the name, but a map is definitely a good idea. Definitely doesn't have to be this detailed. But it's good having things set in stone like locations, helps you understand the terrain too. I just made an outline and called it a day.

The nostalgia of that song hits different

Spent 60 hours to make a world map, 30 more hours for the world history. It was so beautiful that I've decided to scrap everything and redo it two more times cuz I wasn't sure my players would have liked it, then downloaded a random map and went for it.

i aspire to have that same level of creativity

Once in 2018, I spent a month and a half detailing my own map using this program, I scrapped the first three ideas and the end result was magnificent. I still have it in a folder somewhere.

One thing Ive noticed irl especially in small towns is name re-useing ir just odd names in general, Albany Wyoming, Albany is also new yorks capital Bordeaux Wyoming, also a French port city, there was a place called Chugwater. Basically name re-useing is seen as lazy but it surprisingly seems to have a precedent although it may be trolls editing there's a non zero possibility of that but idk

I am like this,when i have a planned story and a vision i struggle to create it,resulting in a crap map,and when i decide to create just for fun somehow i end with 1500 years of history a 40 countries(each with its own lore) and a Full scale pantheon

I wanted to get this off my chest but two things that annoy me the most about some world building is making a writing system that's just English 2.0. The only example I have of this is Star Wars with Aurebesh, pretty much every time it's used in the franchise it's just English because all the letters follow the exact same rules as English ones, even the name Aurebesh is Or-eb-esh so it has the same rule of making two combined letters make a different sound from the letters that make it so I question what point of having a different writing system is in the first place. I digress of course but my other point was when names are made a bit over generic. Over using the ending suffix ia was one I noticed like take a name. Let's say galaxy remove the y and put ia so galaxia, or just name stuff only expecting English speakers to see it or just not have interesting language variety at all. Just my personal gripes though
