I work for whole foods which is owned by Amazon but which treats us way better comparatively and have cried! These physical labor jobs are all very demanding we aren't doing light work. The jobs aren't even the problem the COMPANIES are!!!! There is a major distinction. Amazon warehouse is so awful and honestly he said he received a promotion and a raise since that is all it takes that is all he will ever get, yes they gave me a higher raise at my job too and I can relate to him wholeheartedly and we deserve better with that said, anything connected to Amazon is contaminated and Amazon is the most stubborn employer Amazon would nearly have to collapse in order to completely reform!

I started buying far less from anywhere and much less from Amazon when a pregnant friend of mine had to work and was actually losing a terrible amount of weight working there. And yet, while I run a much smaller business, many of my staff get upset when certain ppl spend too much time in the bathroom and then the staff complains to me about it constantly. So what is a better idea, give them 10 mins to go on a bathroom break (which is a long time btw), or think he will cave to peer pressure and monitor himself? After 15 years, he still clocks in, spends 20 mins in the restroom, annoys everyone, and I still have to deal with the complaints. On my dime.(We don't have "crying in the corner breaktime" 🙄).

You're in a concrete-floored warehouse, walking 6-7 miles a day, and people show up wearing Crocs, flip-flops, an so on - despite Amazon offering free safety shoes from Zappos. Twenty-somethings talk about how exhausted they are, then mention they were up all night playing video games before starting a 10-hour shift.

I work in a warehouse for a different company. In 2020, we separated people into two groups in response to the pandemic, where each group worked three 12 hour shifts a week. When this started, at first I was assigned to be the cardboard operator. After a few days, they changed my assignment because my lower muscles were starting to give in. I did not request this change. They did it because they noticed I was limping. These two things are most important; water and sleep. And don’t underestimate the influence of your diet; I don’t drink soda beverages anymore because they make my stomach bubble up, which can cause various problems. While it’s a challenge, I can honestly say I’m probably healthier than I was before I took the job.

Amazon workers aren't the only ones that deal with this type of work enviornment. I've had a number of warehouse jobs where you work on your feet lifting heavy objects for 14 hrs a day with minimal breaks. You have a computer on you that records how fast you are going all day long. I was the fastest, strongest worker (all conference athlete in multiple sports and lift/excersice regularly) and couldn't keep the pace they expected. They would give a "bonus" for working hard and fast.. yet to get the bonus you would have to put yourself at great risk for injury. Fun days, I eventually said my life and health was worth more than the job.

Definitely I think for the younger people, I managed to pick up a job working at a Amazon warehouse where I live. Unfortunately I only lasted a week before I went off injured, my lower back just spasmed and I needed strong painkillers for about two weeks. After discussion with the medical professionals, it was decided not to put me back to work. So back on the unemployment it was for me . At the time I was 50 years old. I was pretty fit and healthy but a little overweight, but also I had always worked in an office prior to this. I am always seeing ads for jobs here, but I am not going back, don’t want to risk another episode.

Yeah that's why the turnover rare is SO high. I applied 6 months ago but my transportation fell through so I had to withdraw my application. I think that was a blessing. I started getting both texts and emails on a consistent basis from them a few months after applying wanting me to reapply. There are always lots of jobs available and it takes absolutely nothing to get hired. The drug test only goes back two days and you don't even need a resume to get on. Many of these "selector" warehouse jobs are like this. In many cases after working your normal shift they will call for mandatory overtime, which you are not allowed to refuse. A friend of mine, after working an additional 2 1/2 hours, wrecked his car and was nearly killed when he fell asleep driving. The other issues are on the job injuries due to the fast pace of the environment. This does cause a high level of "churn", ie. hiring of new workers to replace those who were either injured, fired, or quit.

This is madness. As long as workers are putting in solid efforts, there's no reason to micromanage like this. Everyone has bad and good days at anything. I get that people should be working at work, but this is excessive to put it kindly. I'm not one to rally fully for unions either (I'd need to know everything about a union before I'd support it) but people get hurt, people pee and poop, people need rest breaks, etc. Let them work to the best of their abilities. Example: Jack doesn't have the work speed of Joe but Jack can lift more than Joe. Sally might be slower than Sandra but Sally has more accuracy. Everyone has their own attributes they are good at. Let Jack, Joe, Sally, and Sandra work to the best of their abilities!

He's making $23.00 an hr. for 36 hrs. which is $828.00 a week. Take $828.00 divide that by 40 hrs. and that's $20.70 an hr. not $12.00...

Sounds like cashiering at Walmart. You have a minimum amount of items scanned and if you don't make the cut you will lose your job. I was a good cashier and almost never had a line but I got coached multiple times because I wasn't scanning fast enough. It doesn't take into account the time it takes to get price checks or customers looking for coupons or money. It only shows that your productivity is too low. But people need to eat so they need to work and they're willing to do crappy jobs. My years working at Walmart and FedEx have made me a true believer in the need for unions.

I haven't bought from Amazon in about 4 or 5 years. The company operates a system that crosses Charles Dickens with George Orwell and employees deserve their health and safety to be paramount.

Unless you are buying your food from a local farmer, never shopping in a retail store (Target, etc), or don't have any branded clothes (Nike, etc) you are being a hypocrite. What do you think those labor practices are? Does it only matter if it's not in America? 🤷‍♂️

About the losing weight....everyone at Amazon knows when they get the job they are gonna lose weight. I personally got the job for the exercise as a driver. Not as bad as the warehouses because you work by yourself and aren't micro-managed. Working for Amazon gave me better insight to when I needed to eat to keep up a healthier routine than I had working in an office all day. I eat smaller portions and more often. I used to only eat once a day for the convenience or twice if I ate while I drove somewhere. Working for Amazon fixed my bad eating habits by making it so that I did have to eat before and after shifts and sometimes during with a granola bar or whatever and taking frequent water breaks. I don't have sympathies for young folks who say, "oh it's so hard, oh my knees." Yeah, getting used to an exercise job is rough on the body no matter your age. I got the job right out of physical therapy for ACL replacement surgery to get better faster and push myself not because it's so satisfying delivering boxes. I was 36 when I joined as a driver. My knees hurt and Amazon has nothing to do with it.

Most of the bad stuff you hear from Amazon is in the warehouse and it is specifically about the TOT so this discussion doesn't really pertain to you. You being a driver and not being micro managed all the time.
