I don’t think you have a victim mindset. Most people don’t understand glaucoma and how it impacts your daily life. My 7 year old has juvenile glaucoma and I think you are an amazing role model for her. Thank you for being so courageous and sharing your experiences with the world.❤

Glaucoma sucks and people accusing you of having a victim mindset probably have no major life issues they have to deal with on a daily basis. It's really easy to criticize when you're not walking in someone else's shoes. My glaucoma was annoying but not horrible until I also got cataracts and all of a sudden I couldn't see anything clearly at all. I'm getting my cataracts out next month and glaucoma surgery at the same time so I'm hopeful I will be able to see better afterwards. You are so young to have to deal with this. My heart goes out to you.

Ohhh... I relate so much with everything you said. I'm 30 years old and lived with Glaucoma all my life. I know how the anxiety feels and how it feels to watch other people living life without a care. I come from a small place and nobody else really understands. It's hard to get a job because you feel like no one really wants to hire you and just getting there in the first place can be so stressful and then you have to find a way get there everyday somehow. Finding people in public places can be a nightmare. School was painful for me because of my vision. I was so bad at team sports. Everyone plays hockey and volleyball around here. And you don't really want to tell everyone because you just feel like a victim and getting treated like it is just as painful. But then you end up alone because of the way people think you just don't care about them or want to talk to them while sometimes you don't even see them. There's just so much anxiety... I'm always trying to find alternative ways to stop the loss of vison and reduce my eye pressure. This is all very misunderstood by everyone. I could talk about this for a long time. The endless medication, the traumatic surgeries... I always want everything to be bigger and brighter. I'm kind of happy I did not lose too much vision since I was a child. But I lost enough. it's still really hard sometimes. I have to accept the fact I may lose more someday. I hope there will be some kind of medical progress soon. I wish your video would get millions of views because it really shows our side of the story. At least you dare to talk about it. Anyways... good job for speaking up.🙂

At 68, Was diagnosed 4 yrs. ago. Just had surgery and its been a humbling experience. I find that so many people just dont understand.

Living with a chronic progressive condition like glaucoma is super challenging. Just keep savoring the small victories and being especially proud of huge steps like being able to uber on your own and moving closer to work. I feel like your being cautious is a good thing; it's easy for people not going through what you're going through to pass it off as "not being brave" or "having a victim mindset", but they aren't living it daily like you are. Not being able to see more subtle facial expressions sounds very difficult, and I'm so sorry you have to go through that. I just pray that technology improves so that there are better tools out there, that society becomes more accommodating, and that there become more avenues for people to connect authentically with each other without being dismissive.

I was diagnosed a few years ago and I’ve been having a bad eye day for three days now. It leaves me feeling completely drained. I guess it’s one of those things where people find it hard to understand, because we aren’t registered as blind? I dunno. I was shocked with the lack of information I was given by my optician. I had laser eye surgery and my eyes were great for a month or so, but then I started to notice problems again…

Sorry you're going through this. I'm in a similar position but I'm a lot older, 62. I've had glaucoma for 20 years and are now registered severe sight impaired. It started with myopia and a detached retina at 27. I live near east London in the UK if any of you want to meet up to support eachother.

you are very brave , Dont listen to people whot tell you have victim mind set , they wont be able to go through one day like you.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, it’s very helpful for me as I’ve just been diagnosed with Glaucoma 2 days ago and I don’t have any symptoms at all. My visit to the ophthalmologist was required because I was diagnosed with Lupus last week. According to the ophthalmologist, my IOP is normal, so my Glaucoma could be caused by the lack of blood oxygen to the optic nerves. I need to see the cardiologist to check for heart disease. I hope you are coping well. ❤

Girl, I feel everything you have said. My vision has drastically changed. I’ve been having a rough time navigating my life. I can no longer drive I feel like a lost my independence. I’m self conscious about being able to see things too, especially in the dark. The worse part is If I can’t see something/ someone I can’t hear.🤦🏽‍♀️

If a person you talk to or be with thinks you have a victim mindset , talk less or be less frequent with them, you will find many in life who will think you have victim mindset given the condition we have and because they are not the same, we just need time to be with people of the same type, sometimes I think the medicine(drops) does more harm than good

I felt sad too. Wish I lived close to you so we could be friends don’t let glaucoma. Steal your good personality I’m not going to let it steal my joy if I go completely blind, I will still listen to my Bible There’s so much more learning than the things we see in this world just remember that There ARE good things in life even if we go blind. But I’m still hoping for both of us. Take one day at a time Get a pet if you can. I have 2 Enjoy every part of life that you can That’s how I handle it and glaucoma has really ravaged my eyesight as well

Hey Emily , recently I visited an eye hospital and after doing oct test they are saying that you have glaucoma at early stage. I am totally shocked to hear that. Should i visit another eye care specialist for the confirmation? I think these eye drop have side effects what if I dont have glaucoma? Can you please suggest me.

Emily, you're no victim. You're a fighter. People who accuse you of having a victim mindset underestimate the gravity of permanent vision loss. It's terrifying to even think of going blind. Everyone, get your IOP checked every 3 months. Glaucoma is the worst eye condition ever. The only thing that comes close is maybe Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) but it's extremely rare.

I had both eyesight problems an lens with a very light medium laser thing but don’t wear the glasses or have a full on beard at no time ever since I’ve move between two years at place that are time consuming by having it done an being mock by evil neighbor dude no one else has a birthmark of mole had previously have only been able have basic eyesight problems like dark circles an eyelid under dark circles an had pay outrageous amounts at On time for eye drops yet be sure If glasses don’t seem to do anything for it
