This Is Too Much! | The Glory ep 1 Reaction

Ойын-сауық

In this video, I'll react to The Glory episode 1. This episode was so hard to watch. Watching Dong Eun go through so much was painful, but it's making me look forward to the revenge even more. I was on the fence about starting this one, but now I'm intrigued. I hope you guys enjoy this The Glory reaction.

Hi, my name is Kahla. I'm a theatre nerd (like two degrees in acting type theatre nerd), a Kdrama lover, and a regular victim of second lead syndrome. I love breaking down scenes and geeking out over my favorite actors. On this channel, I'll review and react to old and new Kdramas and let you know if they're worth the watch. Let's have fun and let me know what Kdrama I should react to next.

So, I learned something new about myself while editing this. Apparently, I talk and smile a lot when I'm angry and uncomfortable. 😂 This episode really has me on Dong Eun's side, and I’m really curious to see where this story goes.

That's nothing to worry about. If you want next level type smiling while being uncomfortable, my favorite actor Vin D'Onofrio could never stop grinning when he shouldn't while acting as Gomer Pyle getting yelled at by drill sgt Hartman in Full Metal Jacket.

Love this show so far. My wife and I have enjoyed it very much! The Koreans are so good at writing these dramas - great narrative and character developmet - getting messages across without preaching or beating the viewer over the head - I love it so much.

It's awful but the curling iron assault was based on a real case in South Korea, around early 2000's.

Yes, I read an article about it, and it was absolutely awful. It’s one of the reasons why I almost didn’t watch this drama because I didn’t know if I’d be able to watch it knowing that this was someone’s real pain.

Hey Kayla! The show had me in momma mood. Bullying is one of my biggest pet peeves. I’m the type to always root for the underdog so this show had me all in my feelings. Edit: It’s funny that I wrote my comment before I finished watching your video…you & I were on the same page the entire time. Lol

Basically, the rich children of the perpetrator group were able to do what they wanted from birth, and simply because Dong-eun did not follow the rich children's orders, they thought that it hurt their pride, so they bullied Dong-eun. (Even if a problem arises, rich people would have bullied them without guilt because they can easily solve the problem by using money or networking.)

I have only ever seen the episode one time but after that one time it stuck with me. My favorite Kdrama of this year but yeah episode 1 is rough

As far as I know, for what it's worth, I learned that in the East Asian area (so Korea, but also Japan) forms of bullying of this type are quite common and some sadly known in the local news resulting in inspired fiction products, just like this story or that we see examples of it scattered in the same dramas of these countries. So too was the teachers' habit of laying hands on students (remember twenty-five twenty-one?), a practice that was the norm in that area in recent times. I won't go into petty psychology on what goes on in the head of a bully to harass other people and how he likes it, but there is no doubt that in the specific story, there is the ruthlessness of feeling untouchable, above the rules thanks to the parents that they can do whatever they want with their money. Be that as it may, the product in question adds to the long tradition of works on "Korean-style revenge", as I like to say (long-term revenge plans to be implemented in the most convoluted and visceral way, mentally above all), which has in the trilogy of the revenge of Park Chan-wook, its best known and most appreciated exponent. However, I have noticed that the dramas produced directly by Netflix (or Disney+, so to speak) have a more "international" edge than the classic dramas for Korean TV such as those of TVN, both in editing and in style, as if they were more oriented to be exported to Western countries. Let me be clear, they are 100% Korean products and they speak to their target audience, but there is no doubt that they are made with a broader ambition to appeal to a more heterogeneous audience. So it is easier to find in these products more marked violence or more explicit sex scenes that tend not to be found in classic TV dramas. I'm not saying it's a bonus or a penalty, but it's something I've noticed. However, it is a rather intense first episode, which immediately puts us on Dong-eun's side, experiencing his tormented journey of pain and revenge, whose determination we can appreciate, but also the obsession he feels, which prevents him from living his life truly and not only in function of its purpose. As always, the Korean drama school is something fabulous, they have so many talents that they know how to fully exploit. The lead actress Song Hye-kyo has a crazy intensity in her gaze (as well as a remarkable beauty, so much so that in the "circle" of enthusiasts in my country she was nicknamed the Korean Monica Bellucci, for what this juxtaposition is worth), perfect in the role, able to return all the emotions of his character. Thanks for sharing the reaction. I had noticed that when something hits you emotionally you tend to laugh nervously. It's a rather common trait that, among the reactions you have, I find it quite funny and engaging, because it means that you are passionate about what you are seeing and consequently you also make people like me who are watching you passionate.

I just watched this episode and omg the people who burned that girl need to be put under the jail or at be given a good slap in the face. I’m not even gonna be mad at whatever happens to those people. Like I’m with you I can’t understand why someone would enjoy seeing someone scream in pain as they slowly make them suffer to do the point where they feel that there is no Will to live. You have to be super and really EVIL to do that to someone and I mean really evil. Karma is gonna bite them in the butt and I can’t wait to see what she does. Ugh!! It makes me so mad! Like the marks on her skin, and the odacity of the freaking home room teacher or whoever she was talking to that slapped her, ooooh! I just wanna beat him and the bullies up so bad for what they did to her ugh! If somebody ever did that to my friend, they’ll be lucky to even be alive and out of prison, ooh I’d slap them so hard!! Those bullies are what I call the devils and monsters. I don’t care what happened to them in their past, they should suffer big time!
