Nobody cared because of the Acura Integra. The Integra was a great car. The 91 Integra was so awesome and that is just the LS. I have never even been in a GSR. But the LS was so good. Those long gears really made you feel how good that B18 was at high RPMs.

Mine used to get warped rotors pretty quick, likely due to the commute I had. So basically you had to stand on your brakes after getting them good and hot.

The super low front cowl and razor-thin A pillars allowed for those huge windows--- giving you an amazing outward view. Hard to describe how much this makes a difference compared to todays boxed in cars (due to airbags, rollover requirements, etc. etc.). Good job Mark!

The Si had a single cam injection engine with 110hp and the DX a single cam carbed engine which produced 100hp. At least for the US. The japanese market also got a double cam Fi engine. The "first" B-engine from Honda and it produced a (for that time) whoping 160hp! The european market got a down tuned version of that with approx 140hp😄

Yeah that H22 was ahead of the curve back in the day. What everyone else was doing with twin cams and a turbocharger, Honda did with VTEC. When they started swapping them into Civics and fourth gen Accords, it really woke those cars up. Seems like after a while the valve seals would wear, which caused it to smoke a little when you got in the throttle, but it still held its power pretty well. I could see Honda bringing the Prelude back and it being a sales success. Would be cool to see it happen.

Both cars had been heavily modified before I bought them, lowered with aftermarket rims, front strut tower bars, cold air intakes (the 2.3 was an actual cold air as the pipe was routed through to where the filter was only a few inches off the road). The 2.2 had fiberglass fenders and hood, along with an aftermarket camshaft. Both great, reliable cars and the 2.2 was actually quick and the handling was fantastic for a fwd car. They'd plow if you threw them in a corner hard enough but lots of fun to drive.

As first Gen Prelude owner, I’m glad to see someone talking about it, even though it wasn’t talked about in the best way haha Quick note ln the first gen’s engine: in Europe we had a 1.6L 80hp engine, and in Japan they got the 1.8L 90hp, so 15hp more than in the US, not that much, but for a 850-900kg car it’s nice !

Really enjoyed your video. Believe it or not a lot of cars of today still don't have double wishbone suspension. Even some supposed performance cars like Porsches. And yes it does make a huge difference in handling. The Honda engineers really designed these old school cars to perform around tracks

I’ve owned 2 5th gen preludes now, a type s and type sh. I personally think these cars are performance bargains if you can scoop up a clean one for around 5k. Before the k series became the k series the h22 was the most coveted Honda swap you could do since it was the “big block” motor. Parts are cheap although a little more scarce then your average civic or Miata but if you look in the right places they’re certainly there.

  • @MrKnoxguy101

    @MrKnoxguy101

Yeah.. the H22’s performance was quite uncommon back when the 5th gen Prelude was new. I had a 97 GSX Eclipse back in the day, and when you compare factory tuned performance of those two cars, the 4G motor was a turbocharged 2 liter boasting 210 hp and could not pull away from a Prelude. Some days the Eclipse ran better than others (temperamental turbo).. the Prelude’s H22 was more consistent needless to say. I’ve seen that engine swapped into 4th gen Accords and it literally turned the car into a sleeper. Consistent low 8 second passes in the 8th mile. Pretty impressive.

3:33 Correction, double wishbone suspension is on hardly any new cars. Even honda went back to economy strut suspension. That is a HUGE difference in handling. 7:30 VTEC is for getting a larger powerband, aka, more power down low, not peak power. Peak hp is not affected that much, but does get a bit better than economy tuning alone allows. Too bad they killed the integra after 2001. The new one is a civic with a body kit, and lacks even the double wishbone suspension that made the OG special. Honda has become a joke.

The old Vtec kicked in around 6k RPM. The current one is 3 stage optimized for midband performance. My friends '96 Type R Vtec kicks at high RPMs, but once he had 2000 Civic build specifically for track - Type R power plant with supercharger. It was as fast as 911. I knew physics Ph.D, specializing in acoustic and DSP. He still owns turbocharger Type R build for track. And then, people also used Prelude engines in Civics or various head swaps to get more juice.

Always the one to get the cool part first. So, so wish they'd bring them back. I've even written Honda myself. But, with the way things are going, and the recent comeback of the "integra". I'm not sure how well they'd come back. the VTEC days are long gone unfortunately, turbos, hybrids, electric, etc. are the wave now. There's just something about the old mechanical Hondas, with the Prelude having the "big block" of all of them

Then i picked my girlfriend up and said "shall we see what its got" and absolutely floored it, it blew us back in our seats and both our faces opened up. When we slowed down she looked me and said "you are literally going to kill yourself in this" That car beat everything, subarus, evos, fastest mercs of the day, civics, i never lost a single race, i was street racing weekly in it. The guy prior must have done something to it because it was so fucking fast. Only issue was it burnt oil almost as fast as petrol and i had to top up 2 litres of oil a week. It was forever running low on oil, after 4 years it blew up and i sold it for £1200 to a scottish guy who some how drove it all the way home to fucking scotland doing 30 mph in a fucked engine rofllll. That cas was just amazing, such character, when you were behind people they got out the fucking way quick and it sounded like a super car when VTECH hit, hairs stood on end and it never got old! It dicked all over civics and integras, i cant bring myself to buy a new civic cas i know il be dissapointed after experiencing the prelude.

My first new car during my first professional job out of college was the 4th gen 1995 Prelude. I remember how much of an increase in status I felt when I brought that red beauty home. I still remember the new car smell. I picked it over the '95 Celica. It was rated in the top 10 most reliable cars, and it had front wheel drive, which was important in snowy Delaware. I had that car during every IT job I had. I drove that car to my first private lap dance in '97. The only problem it ever gave me was that during the winter time, the retractable antenna would get stuck when auto-retracting, so I had to manually force it down. It was tricky to turn off the radio and hurry out to the antenna near the rear so I could time the forcing down of the antenna properly. If I ever became rich someday, I would hire someone to restore a 4th gen Prelude. I was disappointed that the only radio control Prelude car body available is the 5th gen. You cannot make a radio control 4th gen Prelude.

I would hit vtec in that car daily and delivered pizzas in it and painted it up when i got married and had all my most fun driving moments in that car. It was SO fast, almost out dragging a newer heavier Z, usually beating the snot out of anything else that wasn't turboed or a muscle car in the early and mid 00's. Even though it was red it was still a beat up ol' honda that no one saw coming, since I didn't change ANYTHING else about the car. I miss my old lcd dash, that vtec kick and having a real small car. So naturally I offered to buy the car, and got it for about 2K Canadian, so 500 American. Ordered a jdm engine(2K), and with help from a young tech I worked with, got it going. To this day, it was the nicest, most fun car I've ever owned, and I regret ever selling it. I still have a couple low quality videos doing some 0-60's and a couple highway pulls. Will show my son some day, haha. Honda chose the name Prelude to sybolize the vehicle acting as a platform for new technology.

Australia here. I have driven the 5th Gen Prelude, but I prefer the 3rd Gen as it is really cool looking and with 4 wheel steer they go around corners like nothing else. Mine is an '89 model 4ws with the 6BA engine, auto, white with a grey interior, 225,000 km. They cost $45,000 auD here in 1989. I bought mine as a one owner from a 91 yrld dude.

This video brought back memories, my neighbour had one from new. The engine just purred and the ride was so smooth.

One of my first cars was a '94 Prelude VTEC and to this day it's the most fun little car I've ever owned.

Just found it in recommentations. What I expected (and what I got) is a story about a magnificent masterpiece from Honda. I always cry when I hear about Japanese cars of the 90s. The Golden Age we lost... What I didn't expect - 'do svidaniya' at the end of the video))

i own a 97’ 5th gen manual prelude i bought in 2017 Ontario /L.A . i constantly get asked if i “sell it” & i always say NO ! i saved up $1 by $1 in high school just to get the car i wanted . By this , i had observed many of honda cars that most typical people get like the EG/EK ( which i call mini egors ) , Civics , RSX’s , Del Sol’s , integras , bla bla . i wanted something different & unique ! also to mention preludes aren’t even seen often so when im out in the street i always get necks broken & its usually older heads telling me they like my car & saying they wish they got it when they were younger. Preludes are a gem so i told myself im never letting my baby go no matter if im old . ill be old & still have the prelude you wanted 😂 ahh such a great car despite its oil burning issue

I had a 2001 5-speed manual Prelude that I brought used in 2004. I had that car for 8 years and it was a blast to drive! It's still my favorite car of all time!

In the year 2000 I was 18, worked construction and financed a 1994 Prelude. Unfortunately I didn’t know a manual transmission was a lot better but the thing did carve the mountains in Sonoma very well.

I owned a 2nd and a 4th gen in my lifetime. Last time I was at a Honda dealership the 24 year old salesman never even heard of a Prelude. 😮‍💨

I had a '95 Twin Turbo Supra, and in 1998, contemplating a long commute needing a car that was cheaper per mile, I test-drove this '93-95 (4th-gen?) Prelude. Granted not fast, but the handling was excellent. It reminded me of riding a good road bicycle, where you almost lean into turns. It was a revelation in steering and handling for me.
