I maintain that the Honda Fit is the spiritual successor to old school Civics. It's 90s economy car small while being endlessly practical and surprisingly playful in the corners. The torsion bar suspension in the back is nothing compared to the multi-link found on Civics, but like the Fiesta ST, that doesn't make it any less fun. It's a damn shame they discontinued it in the US.

I'm glad you guys have finally shown the Fit some love! Not only did you include it on the list, but you made it the very first one. I've got a 5 MT GE8 (2nd gen) Sport model with 212k miles on it, and I don't plan on replacing it any time soon. The quick steering ratio and stiff frame give it the handling characteristics of a roadster.

I'd like to add an even more slept on car I owned years ago when I was in college, the manual Scion tC. Hear me out, you are essentially getting the larger displacement Camry engine with a shorter base and lighter Corolla chassis. The care come stock with 21mm sway bars and has a very affordable TRD Lowering spring that you can add that will make the care actually rotate around corners. I remember taking my tC to autocross and flat out embarrassing porsches, Camaros, corvettes, S2000s, and 370z when I beat the majority of them and finished in 12th place out of 58 participants. People thought I had a turbo, or some crazy sticky tires but I was practically stock and just running some performance all seasons tires. Car was anemic in s strait line but around corners it felt like a classic JDM tuner car. Those cars where widely slept on. Affordable, easy to work on, cheap parts, looks halfway decent, and actually had roomy cabin for its size. At the time and even now it cost less than a honda fit and is still faster, only downside is the aftermarket isn't that good. The tC gets slept on because it is too sporty for casual buyers who just want a transportation appliance like a Civic, but isn't sproty enough to be wanted by enthusiasts, so it sits in the middle ground where it get ignored and forgotten. Highly recommend it as a first car for someone in highschool or college.

As a one time haver of a first gen tC, I agree with you bud. Good times, will always have a soft spot for manual tC’s.

I had a previa as my first car. Here in Australia it's called a Tarago. I had a lot of fun in that car. Changing the spark plugs can be done from under the right hand side seat. Once you remove the seat there is a cover under the seat that is removed to reveal the coilpacks and spark plugs. From memory, there is also an oil door in the centre floor under the carpet that is easier to access for obvious reasons.

Yep, plugs/oil pan gasket/head gasket/ exhaust header all accessible under the passenger seat. Remove a few bolts, then the seat, then a stamped metal cover, and the top of the motor is right there for you. Plug and wire changes are easy. Distributor is accessible from pass side just by laying on your back. Another reason not to hoon this without some mods and a lift kit - a lot of vulnerable parts are 5-6” off the ground.

When the Fit was just about to 1st come to the USA, I still had an old Autocross/Solo-2 car I had returned to stock, an 89 Civic Si hatch. Loved that car, but I needed new and was sad I couldn't just buy it again. Out of curiosity, I got a spec sheet for the Fit and it was astonishing how closely it numbers matched the Si. Chassis dimensions, weights, nearly everything. So I drove one: you sat higher in the Fit, just as quick but less rev-happy, a bit more body roll, better brakes. If the Fit came out in 1990 promoted as a hot hatch, it would be legend. Same car in 2005 (?) promoted as a MPG buggy gets no props. It's all in your mind. Great car. Who cares who knows as long as you do.

Speaking of Toyota vans, I'm from the Philippines and almost my whole family on my father's side and I went to Camiguin (great island but I'm not into travelling, plus you've never heard of it). We all had to ride in someone's silver diesel HiAce with a manual that would have looked a lot better if it didn't have tasteless cosmetic mods and it was just stock. I was thoroughly impressed of how good of a highway missile it was. It climbed the steep uphill roads of the island without any problem because it had so much torque and handled turns pretty well too.

😊 I did something like this in the '80s. What I really wanted was maybe a 'Cuda 340 but I couldn't afford one. So I ran across a '64 Valiant with a 4-speed and a seized 273 V8. The body was great, with very nice paint. I found a wrecked '71 Duster 340 that a guy was parting out. Pretty soon, my Valiant was 340 powered with the original '64 4-speed. Later I swapped on front disc brakes and a posi 8¾" rear axle. Using my cousin's tube bending equipment I made front bucket seat frames from 1¼" aluminum tubing and sheet aluminum. I took out the back seat and made my own super-lightweight one also from aluminum tubing and lawn-chair webbing, with my own upholstery. With those changes, an aluminum intake, headers, and an aluminum bellhousing the car weighed 2724 lbs. I wish I had taken it to the track and tried it on the ¼-mile. What a fun car! I wish I still had it.

I'm six feet tall, and I have two brothers who are taller than me. They are both broke, but they need a car, and I keep telling them _both_ to buy a Honda Fit. I sat in one at a car show in 2018, and my mind was forever changed on the car. They're so much roomier inside than you might think at first glance, especially for tall people sitting in the backseat. One could say it really grew on me. Stinks they discontinued it. Everything Honda makes just keeps getting bigger and more upscale. I remember when you bought a stick Honda because it was one of the cheapest cars in the world and it would outlive your grandchildren.

Massive sleeper is the Cadillac STS. More powerful than the similar model years CTS and yet it wasn't as popular. The STS had two V8 variations, one was a supercharged 4.4l, the other a 4.6l, and a 3.6l V6. The naturally aspirated engine is responsive, and it handles great. Toss some racing coilovers on it and it corners even better. Stupid reliable, mine was running on 5 cylinders, had a massive oil leak, two water leaks, and now power steering when it came to me. Just got a 2.0T accord sport and it's INCREDIBLE! I already dropped an intake in it and I have an oil catch can in the mail just to feel like a pro. Absolute stunner of a car and so comfortable when I don't want to go fast.

Get a Ktuner. Even the can tunes wake the car up. If you have E85 pumps in yer area that's a good boost also. Running better 1/4s the the Camaro of my high school years looking like a dofus putting a helmet on to drive my dad car down the strip.

I got a 07 Camry XLE with the V6 in it and a bunch of extras in it it's pacy up to about 80 then the acceleration becomes slower. I haven't maxed mine out. The Camry really shines in smooth ride and confort.

Honda Jazz / Fit is super popular to mod on Asia especially South East Asia since the car is pretty much still looking good for Teenagers here and didn't look boring at all. There are lots of Aftermarket parts for the car and you shouldn't be really confused to how to get one.

Another honorable mention, a Honda Accord coupe with a V6 and 6 speed manual combination, especially the 2008-up models with the larger 3.5L V6. The ones equipped with the manual also don't have cylinder deactivation unlike the automatic versions which make the manual version a little more reliable.

I feel this. I had a 2005 Kia Sorento with a manual transmission that I had a blast with. Had weirdly short gearing that made it feel somewhat overpowered for what it was, a strangely competent 4WD system, and a great feeling shifts that were satisfying. Paid next to nothing for it so I didn't feel constrained to really be careful with it. I'd buy another one if I could find one.

Huh? I legitimately thought Kia didn't even know _how_ to make a manual gearbox, let alone shipped a vehicle with one. To be fair, to this day it still boggles the mind that so many other brands use MB engines with great manual transmissions, yet Mercedez benz itself won't do that.

@@ZeroHourProductions407 MB won't because automatics are "fancy" and their clientele can't be bothered to manually change gears like a peasant. (But when they do shift their own gears it's with white gloves and a pinky up.)

First gen sorentos were body on frame SUVs with true 4wd and a low range transfer case with a solide rear axle. Some decent tires and they can actually go places. Unfortunately, aftermarket support is nearly non-existent so unless you're good at fabrication, you won't be putting a winch bumper on it anytime soon.
