THIS is the MOST IMPORTANT element to make an MMORPGs' virtual world feel REAL
Ойындар
Much is talked about combat mechanics in MMORPG games. However, not much is discussed about the importance of the commerce. In this video, I explain how commerce is one of the most important elements to enhance sociality in a game, and it is what makes a virtual world feel real.

extractor>middle man>producer/crafters>middle man>consumer, i think you forget middle man, person who buy extractor produce to sell to producer, and then they can even buy again from the producer the equipment made by producer to sell to consumer, even in real world many people become billionaire using this method... and personally if you make a game, obviously you want to make money, what this company cash shop should sell is skins that have no in game impact (like dota) and maybe increased drop rate or increased experience item, dont sell in game cash which like you said can mess up the economy...

You definitely right!! I completely overlook the middle man, which has always been a central figure in Ragnarok, and, like you said, also in real life economies. Amazon is just a gigantic middle man, so is UberEats, Deliveroo. I will pin your comment and the next time I make a video about in-game economy, I will definitely talk about the middle man!
100% facts, i miss the old days, Ragnarok player here batch 2004
So true, I wish we could go back to subscription model (including game pass). The irony is that MMOs abandoned it because players were too young to afford it, but now that their demographic could afford it they're addicted to gacha mechanics.

Exactly. It~s crazy to thing that the only official server that still charges subscription is the Japanese one, jRO, but it is also the server with the most aggressive gacha!
I used to love spending time dropping witch starsand, fabric, immortal hearts... creating mushrooms with alchemists while talking to friends and then almost crash the game just to drop a few alcohols... Similar thing on Tibia, spending time fishing with friends and making runes. And now you can just pay cash for everything. Ok, we don't have time nowadays, but even if we did, the feeling of accomplishment of before was so much simpler compared to now.

The grind in old MMOs was indeed very hard, but they threw baby out with the bathwater!
you delivery great videos, I'm happy to watch them

When i play MMO, one of my goals is to be rich! From RO to WOW, did nothing but to make money.
Ragnarok really managed to make so many parts of the world have some value: cards, crafting materials, pet tame item, converters. Lower lvl players can still make reasonable money farming low areas because high lvl players prefer farming something that gives exp and money at the same time. So few games make low-mid areas seriously relevant for high level characters which makes it so you can only start engaging with the economy/trading once you're at the end. Reliance feels like a core pillar to learn from RO. If you no longer rely on anyone for anything, you get renewal and there's not the same sense of being in a world together and finding your place.

Exatly!
I have been thinking a lot about this game and working on a game economy, so this hit in the perfect crossroad for where I am right now. I really miss playing RO with my friends, but it eventually died out, and it really felt like the company decided to cash out with the cash shop updates that were implemented. Who knew that it was really that cashing out that was helping to kill the game-

Glad you enjoyed the video! Are you making a game centered on economy? Will it be like a colony simulator?
As soon as you started talking about the holy trinity I immediately knew where you were going based on the rest of the video! Very well written! I never thought about markets having their own holy trinity before, that's a spectacular design theory! As a merchant main in RO, I feel like so many mmos get it totally wrong :(

Thanks! Compared to other MMOs, I think Ragnarok has (or at least had) the best market system of them all. I would say not only most MMOs failed to understand the dynamics of market chains, Gravity itself completely forgot it too!
Ah, meu coracao! Hj em dia tenho 32 anos e dois filhos. Mas pelo menos uma vez por ano sinto um aperto no coracao e uma saudade de RO. Nao me arrependo de nenhum segundo das provavelmente milhares de horas que joguei.

I spent some time playing Albion, but more recently, I started playing ragnarok again, but differently. The idea is to play with extra rules, so as to make the game not only more challenging, but to force playing the initial levels! Some people have been doing that on the Brazilian server, I joined them. Soon I will make a video about that experience!

@@gamecitizeni recently has jump to RO world again and found out this server call "MythosofMidgard", no p2p or RMT, nice exp and drop rate, the mechanics is different from the original but its really interesting. Do check it out and please let me know if there's any server better than that. Anyway, nice video ♥️

If you can't have fun as a capitalist pig in an MMO, it's a bad MMO (much less a real MMO).
it doesn't work tho, everyone is a consumer and everyone wants to do the PVE stuff.. and everyone can just gather and craft their own stuff too, u can be everything, so it doesn't have dedicated people, and if there are its a tiny section, nobody is really dependent on anyone

Well, it depends. Let's take old Ragnarok as example. In order to make potions, you would need an alchemist with high DEX and LUK. That wasn't an easy feat. On the other hand, it was much easier to farm herbs and sell to the alchemists. Okay, now let's move to contemporary Ragnarok. Nobody relies on nobody else, the game is directed towards solo-play. There is still commerce, but it is mostly about selling gear that you get through cash shop. Okay, now let's consider Albion. In Albion, it is possible for one single character to craft literally anything. However, that seldom happens. Just like in real life economics, it is not because you can do it that it is advantegeous to do it. It is better to do something you are good at, so you are more competitive in the market for that thing, sell and use the money to buy the rest.

Thank you so much for your message! I really mean it! People talk a lot about toxicity in social media, but there is also a whole lot of positivity, too! These previous months, I got very busy with my job. I couldn't even play. My next video will most likely be published in mid-July! I really appreciated your commentary!
