This is the most extreme Civic EG6 in the world, first look at the Built By Legends Honda Civic, JDM

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

*Please turn on CC for English subtitles *
The long awaited in depth look of the second Built By Legends restomod project car, the true JDM 1994 Honda Civic SiR II EG6 is here. Displayed in Spoon Sports Type One garage in the 2020 Spoon Collection, JDM and Honda fans alike were excited at the sight of something that has never been done before. A custom side flow exhaust muffler made of titanium that is based on a similar design that was used in the 1993-4 JTCC (Japan Touring Car Championship) Civic Ferio SiR EG9 with a special B18C based 2.0 litre engine giving about 300PS! The purpose of going to this extreme of exhaust routing not serves to increase torque and power, but to achieve something that most road car tuners have not been able to attempt or have the know how to do. By making the manifold to the side, the engineers are able to lower the engine by an impressive 40mm. This makes a significant difference to the centre of gravity, which will have a direct effect on handling characteristics. Making this closer to a true 'racing car' on the road.
BBL"s partners are renowned top of the Japanese tuning industry Spoon Sports and Opera Performance, but in this episode we also reveal the man responsible for crafting the beautiful and intricate titanium exhaust system, which is complete from manifold to tail pipe. This one off system has seen uncountable hours of design, testing, prototype making, fitting to make achieve the high standards that BBL has envisioned for its fully tuned road ready car.
A car that has engine power with out a finely tuned chassis will not be pleasurable to drive or achieve the performance to call it a unique tuning car. For BBL, simply restoring the chassis was not enough. In order to make this the best handling EG generation Civic that fans can admire and be the next level dream, the body had to be strengthened more without the use of race only roll cages. This was achieved by perhaps an industry first of bonding copious amounts of carbon fibre directly to the body in key strategic areas, thereby increasing rigidity to levels that potentially exceed a Type R body.
Join us in this video as explore the technical details and the build that is done by some of the best in the motorsports and tuning industry from Japan. Built By Legends, not by amateurs in a backyard.

    The 90s era JTCC and JGTC cars are the ones I adore the most. Sadly those two racing series got very little air time in the US even long after those series were over but I built many scale models of GT-R's like the famous blue Calsonic R32 just to name one. Love what Built by Legends is doing and I appreciate this channel covering it in such detail.

Type One down the road was pretty damn impressive though, I remember seeing an exhaust just like the one in your video being built. Japan has to be one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been, and I can’t wait to make it back as soon as this corona crap is gone! Also just so we’re clear and for everyone that has never been to Spoon Sports Japan in person. They sell parts for Dihatsu, Honda, Isuzu, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW Mini, Citroen, Fiat, Maserati, Mercedes Benz, Mini (classic), Opel, Peugeot, Renault, and Volkswagen.

    It looks a lot like the JTCC car you have pictured at 16:01 used a reverse flow the engine to allow the use of ITBs and a well tuned carbon fiber induction chamber to produce more power. As mentioned this allows mounting of the engine lower in the chassis.

  • @visionenippon-captbradford9344

    @visionenippon-captbradford9344

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes. That is right. There are almost no photos left even within Japanese media that seems to exist ( perhaps I just haven’t found it yet) or the original 1994 JTCC side flow exhaust. The screenshot of the engine you mentioned is a later version reverse head. Even any shot of the engine of a JTCC EG9 is really hard to come by.

  • @LZ6U

    @LZ6U

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@visionenippon-captbradford9344 It looks like standard touring car stuff. Somebody read the rules and found that it wasn't illegal to re-mount the engine lower. Using the free space in front of the engine for the larger carbon air box may have been a secondary benefit. Or maybe the induction change was the goal with the lower engine mounting a secondary benefit. Top level touring cars really only look like production cars. Get up close and you'll find everything has been re-engineered for going fast. If the budget is large enough and the rules don't disallow it, the engineers will do it. Ford's BTCC Mondeo V6 had the engine leaned way over to get it low and rearward for similar reasons as Honda did on the flow reverse or side exhaust routing. The BTCC Mondeo raced with a 60 degree V6 but one head pointed up while the other forwards. Exactly nothing like a production car of the same body shell.

    I started "Vehicle Wraps" in the 90s. I'm very interested in this "vacuum forming" carbon-fiber

    "vacuum forming" carbon fiber is a real thing and is how most pieces you see are made.

    When is Spoon and Builtbylegends going to work on Honda Accord CD6, CF4, CL1 and Prelude BA7,BB4, BB6. They have been forgotten, underrated and neglected by the car scene. But they have got so much potential just like the other H cars having the golden VTEC and double wishbone layouts. Hopefully my message will get to them. Can't wait to see they build a proper Accord CD6 like this one and the Prelude as well.
