This is the goofiest mafia romance series I've ever read

Фильм және анимация

While working on other projects, I stumbled onto Michelle Heard's "Sinners" series....and I was marveled (for better or worse). This is among the most unserious, goofy dark romance series I've ever read. Heard wrote this nonsense with her whole chest with this sense of unbridled IDGAF conviction all the while being such nonsense. I had to drop everything and talk about it.

I gotta respect how the series keeps it fluffy. Just wish it wasn't pretending to be *dark* romance. It should have stood proud as a non-angsty rom-com about chivalrous dorks in the mafia!

So by the sound of it each of the female love interests are in some way or another more of a kink than an actual character. Or at least they all have one that could be assigned to them. On your The Mister review Poldark is like this: Ross Poldark is a rebellious boy who gets sent to the colonies to fight for Britain in the revolutionary war. After not hearing of him for a while, everyone who knew him assumes he is dead, including his great love, Elizabeth, who decides to marry to his rich cousin. Ross is heartbroken upon his return, yet his land is a mess and his family's business is near bankrupt, so he decides to focus in putting his life back in order. Sometime later, Ross meets a run away named Demelza, and feeling compassion and pity towards her, he decides to hire her as his maid. Elizabeth and Ross still love one another, but they cannot be together because she is well...married. He also comes to discover Elizabeth is pregnant. Meanwhile, Demelza begins to fall in love with Ross, as he is the most tender man she has known in her life, Ross does not really notice this for a while, though. As Demelza grows prettier and he lonelier, Ross comes to feel a certain attraction towards her, and they spent a night together. After this, Demelza decides to leave Ross, not wanting to be work for a man whom she spent a night with. Yet Ross has a strong sense of duty, and since she is now ruined in the eyes of society for having intercourse out of wedlock, he proposes to Demelza who happily accepts. They marry, in spite of societies expectations, and after a series of events he comes, including Demelza's confession to Ross, he forgets about Elizabeth, and falls to love Demelza. It is not nearly as bad as it is in the Mister, and though Demelza is naïve she is actually a genuinely likable character, at least in the Masterpiece show. You should check out Demelza's song.

I am honestly sick of the romance in the whole arranged marriage trope, where they gradually fall in love rather than just genuinely becoming friends and making a bad situation a bit better since both parties are in the same boat. It's always got to be romantic love and all that slop. Here's an idea, instead of love, the MC's never get past just general tolerance, there is zero emotional connection between them. But no one notices how apathetic they truly are to one another because the respective families are up their own asses in terms of delusional thinking. They think they know better and are whole heartedly convinced regardless of copious amounts of evidence to the contrary. I seriously want this to happen, or at someone should make an honest attempt at it.

Functional marriages are a lot closer to really-close friendships than you give credit. What a lot of people see as "love" is often just the emotional obsession people have with someone they find s e x ually attractive. However, a functioning and long-lasting relationship is based on mutual loyalty, and willingness to interact; "love" is good to get you through the rocky parts early on, but only through deliberate decision to become loyal and valuable to the other person will it last. As well, it was Nietzsche that said in _All Too Human_ that "Marriage as a long conversation... Everything else in a marriage is transitory, but most of the time that you're together will be devoted to conversation." Effectively, what I'm saying is you're describing a healthy marriage, something most romance writers are paralyzingly terrified of. I will say however, I agree with sanfran, emotion has to be there. You throw five guys in a trench together for six months, and they will grow emotionally attached to one another. It's not gay, it's just loyalty towards the people you walk the road to hell with; whether that road be taxes and raising children, or No Man's Land and the Eastern Front.

"I kidnapped you and murdered your whole family! Here's a Twilight box set and a puppy!" My jaw always drops at that part. This series is a weird mix of Hallmark fluff with murder, revenge, rape, sex trafficking, horrific violence and general organized crime. What even is this?!

Do half of these countries even HAVE a Mafia? Like, I'm pretty sure Mafia as a name is largely a Sicilian & Italian thing (which, like, you did say that the author corrected herself later on for Russia & Greece). But an Irish Mafia? A Polish Mafia?? The country that can hardly choose a president has it's own organised crime syndicate?? I am insulted at this author's assumption that us Poles could even create such a thing, much less actually make it work

The irish did at one point have a criminal organization in America at least, but they’re were usually just called “the irish” if I’m not mistaken. Mafia wasn’t a term thrown around for them most of the time.

Throughout I'm just imagining the Goobers as the JJBA Vento Aureo cast as you're saying this and it still reads like a goofy fluff reader x Character fanfic. Edit: Okay here me out!!! I imagine Goober 1 as Abbachio because... Not sure. Personality wise is close. Goober 2 is Bucciarati because of the calm and almost dad lover vibe Goober 3 is definitely Mista with a different backstory!! But the attitude and accidentally shooting someone else is on par. He would be the type who would accidentally shoot his own girlfriend because the bad guy did something. Or Sex Pistols (his stand) did it. Goober 4 is very Giorno like. Head of the Italian Mafia (JJBA part 5) and he totally got the diamond ring by using Gold Experience by turning one into a frog and back. Hahaha!! Also probably wouldn't know how to relationships. Goober 5 is... Unfortunately he doesn't feel like a Narancia or a Fugo. But he's closest to Polnareff oddly enough... who is in Part 5... but acts more like his Part 3 self!! Even has a dog!!

As someone whos demisexual, WOW was that the most boring and also insulting acephobic way the author couldve handled it. I havent read these so only have your word to go off of but goddamn! There couldve been so much more done with the demi side plot, so many different ways to look at it. But no, the author did the most bland boring non-commital approach.

@@JohnDoe-uf3lj I'm probably not going to watch Season 3 if that becomes a thing. I don't care about where his Mom is. The fact that l even remember that that was the plot is a miracle, because l think the show itself forgot. (Demon King at Magic Academy is another serious offender. They decided not to ease into season 2, but instead expect the viewer to remember the 20 people they've thrown at me in just the first episode alone. Cool. Immediately not invested.)
