UPDATE: It has been brough to my attention that I didn't mention how much waste water there is, and that's correct. These units will typically produce a 2:1 - 3:1waste to pure water ratio, but if you are on city sewer, it simply goes back to the treatment plant, just like your bath water, laundry water etc, and is treated and returned to the public water supply. So I don't really consider it waste water. Also, this is MUCH better than all the bottle water everyone buys. It saves a ton of plastic from ending up in the landfill, is the purest you can get, and will save you a ton on buying water elsewhere. As for this being a paid sponsored video and me being impartial. Well, I bought my 1st RO in 2000 and LOVED it. I've owned 3 others since this so I'm not loving it because I'm paid, I'm paid because I loved it before I agreed to take this on as a sponsored video and this is how KZreadr creators make money, by giving honest reviews of products we like, or love. I gave my totally honest opinion.
Please do a follow up when you perform maintenance. I've read about similar systems and it seems they require regular upkeep
Buy one of these!! I bought my first RO system over ten years ago. I was very surprised by how cruddy the prefilter looked after a few months of catching sediment and, I am in a good municipal system. Second the water tastes fantastic, absolutely no off flavor and, since installing I have used it 100% to make coffee. The coffee (also ice cubes) taste much better and, since the water is pure with no hardness I have never had to clean my drip coffee maker and I am still using the coffee maker I bought at about the same time, 10 years ago. My system does not add minerals back however so that may not apply if yours does.

There is one lurking menace in in a lot of city water most people haven't heard of: Acanthamoeba. It is fairly rare and not normally a big deal, but it is why it is so important not to rinse contact lenses in tap water: it can cause serious eye infection.
True: city water is disinfected enough to prevent typhoid and other bacterial or parasitic diseases, but a lot of stuff still gets through. I was at 20 person "focus group" in Phoenix about 30 years ago. The focus was on water quality )it eventually became apparent it was about groundwater contamination in the Valley of the Sun. Anyway, a show of hands revealed I was the only person there who drank tap water. I have a very poor sense of taste so it hardly bothered me. TCE contamination aside, Phoenix water is carried by iron pipes, which make the water taste awful and turns iced tea to mud. Now I have a daughter who lives in Albuquerque the water in her area has iron, but also so much manganese that a glass of water allowed to stand overnight has pink sediment in the morning. Not everybody has bad tap water, but many or most people do. Here in Flagstaff it is not bad but we still use an RO filter when making iced tea.

It will get rid of most everything. And the UV light should kill anything that gets past all the filtration. RO is about the cleanest water possible. It's how they desalinate even.

I think all RO filters control cryptosporidium. It removes molecules of minerals, that should block crypto pretty well. A whole lot of city water has cryptosporidium.
What's the cost of a system like that?

That's a pretty good price. I have a several year old three stage filter / RO filter; IIRC we paid about $200 for that.
