The Hermit is such a well-designed character. All the mechanics, card deck and artwork feel right at home in the base game - you'd never guess it was fan-made. Glad to see some more content featuring it!

The way it treats curses like statuses and skills is definitely not a vanilla+ mechanic. Some design compromises, or tweaks to the main game, would be necessary for them to not stand out badly.

​@@Gaswafers You might be right - certain vanilla decks like Rupture with the Ironclad can work with curses but no character makes them so integral. I suppose the Hermit feels more like an official DLC than a stock main character.

I'm not even joking, I would LOVE for Downfall to become a normal part of your rotation, I can't get enough of it.

Getting to a20 with downfall characters would be fun

Honestly this would be a fun character to add to the rotation of Spire runs. He's so much fun and honestly more satisfying to me to climb ascensions with than the main 4 Also don't know if it was mentioned, but Bruise no longer decreases by 1 on hit, so a lot of bruise cards got 1 stack of bruise removed. Also, the Rye Stalk relic was changed from "Bruise no longer decreases on hit" to "At end of turn, all enemies lose HP equal to their bruise"

A deck focusing on strikes with maintenance and a lot of Cheat is the most fun I’ve had on hermit. Cheats let you play it for effectively 1 energy regardless of maintenance’s cost.

Love the Hermit. Please more of this. The archetypes and play decisions are so damn interesting.

I think the Hermit is the best modded character ever seen in this game. He genuinely feels like he belongs in the game; the art style matches, he has good deck variety, and just enough keywords and complexity to be unique without being overly hard to understand. I would love to see much more Hermit content in the future!

This character is great. I could watch a game with it regularly, like with the other four. One hermit video a month would definitely be great.

@@krabbekage2124 quick break-down: every week there is a meme video and a video of a different game (nowadays Peglin) plus almost always a special video of a new mod like "what if every relic...". That leaves us with 4 video a out of seven for "normal" StS content (slay the streamer included). In the 4 weeks that adds up to a total of 16 plus, let's say, 2 days, as the month is usually longer. Out of the 18 videos, you would want 10 hermit and only 2 of each other (main) character? I think that would get old very fast - definitely before the end of the month. I stand by my choice of 1 per month to keep it interesting and not turn away too many players who have no idea of the character, therefore cannot understand it or relate to playing it.

I've never watched a modded character run before but this character is so incredibly clean, it feels like official content.

I love that this character allows you to enjoy your strikes and defends rather than want to get rid of all of them.

"Noon me- Chat, what time is it?" chat: "mid day" "it's 12 o clock" "1:58." "yeehaw"

5:15 This moment right here is why I always want YesRelic permanently in my mods list ... Wide Open, Quickdraw or Golden Bullet ... take them ALL! 36:25 Clasped Locket ... curses that aren't particularly annoying are good now ... hope you get cards like Misfire & Spray and Pray offered to you soon 38:22 Too busy with chat to notice how good Spray and Pray is ... it's like a better version of Sword Boomerang that triggers your upgraded starting relic 40:11 I've never seen Flash Powder before ... that's such a great card || 45:03 Take a look at how strong Misfire is for your current build ... it's a wow card

Misfire and spray & pray are alright, but at that point in the run Frost wasn't really having problems doing damage. He just wanted to get to his set up, which those two cards would have interfered with by clogging up the early draws.

I remember this from the last Hermit video, but the card "Roundhouse Kick" is not showing a roundhouse kick. A roundhouse kick would come from holding your foot against your butt, lifting your leg sideways, and extending your leg, kinda like a football kick but sideways (a bit of a poor description, but should be easier to visualize). The action lines showing the motion of the kick are showing that the guy started with their foot on the left and moved towards the right, and that motion would make it so they hit with the heel of their foot, which would be closer to a hook kick.

Seeing you learn characters and new things is honestly so fun, its definitely cool to see this content and I would like to see more playing it!

Amazing video! This inspired me to do a Hermit run of my own, and I won! Determination + Spray n' Pray + Shade Cloak deck! Thank you Frost & Andrew.

My first run with this mod I got two overwhelming powers, it made for a really fun OTK deck that struggled verses bosses at the start, but once I was able to get a panacea the game was free

Spire couldn't throw shit at the man w/ the gun.

Of all the mods, this is the most fun character to watch. The meme character like the LoL ones, are like fun for 5 minutes or highlights, but this feels like it could almost be part of the game

Weird question but i see you have an sm7b... i also have one and am having issues with having to have the gain turned all the way up for it to pick up anything even after using a cloudlifter to improve the sound levels. Ive read that this is a pretty common issue and was wondering, what do you use to work around the gain issue with the mic?

Crimson Eyed is a fun character to play but it's hard as fuck to learn

There's some pretty sick Touhou character mods - I only know some off-hand lore about Touhou, but from what I've seen the characters play well into their identity while still being (largely) balanced and enjoyable. Especially Reimu and Koishi, Remilia Scarlet is slightly too strong iirc. The Gensokyo act mod also pairs pretty well with them for pure thematics, although it is far less balanced imo.

Overwhelming Power is quite literally OP lmao, so many ironclad powers lose way more GUARANTEED HP for such less, well power, pretty insane. The downside should be like a crap ton of curses and 4 hp

I disagree- Ironclad gets energy for hp outright. Hermit spends one energy to gain three, draw a little, and the perminant downside for the rest of the fight to choose between one more energy, or the HP loss. overhead that Ironclad doesn't need to worry about. WIthout Icecream, Hermit could easily lose energy in the long term trying to avoid hp loss in comparison to Ironclad. It gets better in comparison the faster you can end the fight.

Do a run where you start with like 2 desperados and a sneko eye, see how crazy those numbers can get

Showdown and high noon have a realy big potential for infinite deck, just remove/exhaust all cards except strikes, high noon, showdown and you use 1 strike you gain 1 strike, it's infinite

Hermit literally good tho, like put a Virtue and a LOT of cards that contain negative buffs and that character is OP with just in-build Artifacts with it. Say for an example you carrying Wraith Form Cards with a Virtue. That card just negate the effect entirely when played after you receive a negative buffs.

@@koshakvesely8186 Eternal Form now reduces the cost of all cards in your hand *at the start of your turn* by 1. Instead of 4 free cards and no energy, you get 5 discounted cards and energy. Maybe not a nerf initially but the stacking is almost worthless now

I agree with a lot of the others. Just add downfall, even if it’s just the hermit, to the play rotation. It’s a great way to spice things up!

Hey Frost! Highly recommend you get the mod of the Hermit by himself instead of just through the Downfall, since in the downfall you can get some whacky potions, relics and events, even when playing the normal characters!
