This ship has one of the most beautiful engine rooms I've ever seen.
The Arksen 85 is truly one of the most promising Explorer yachts on the market..... We almost only need some "live data" on the performance, which is difficult as it is a newcomer to the market..... Your video was a great insight into this astonishing vessel!! Thank you! As an Explorer yacht "wanna be" I am a sucker for this more comprehensive videos were we get a deeper insight into the actual yacht, and not only the "lets go through this" kind of videos.... I think - with the options I believe is available for this yacht - one can get the deck surfaces as one wants, and if that is not all grey, maybe flexiteak or other materiel could be available....? I think, as you pointed out in the video, this is a ship/yacht, that is capable of so much individual adaption, that it could fit almost anyone looking for this kind of explore yacht. Once again, thank you for giving us this opportunity to see a more in-depth view of a very promising yacht (apologies for any misspellings or gramma mishaps - I am not a native English speaker )

Boy, it looks like the Dashew's designs made quite the impression on boat builders around the world.

@@davidkennedy3050 maybe because it's not a copy. the idea that Steve Dashew "invented" the aluminum shallow draft narrow hull (sailboat with motor) design is obnoxious.

Its getting quite boring reading "one more" "Dashew copy design" comment. Im also a fan, but, like me , most of these keyboard specialists never been in none of these boats. And Dashew didnt invent anything. Just specialized and refined a knowned kind of hull design (sleek, efficient...) for small to medium go anywhere cruise boats. Theres no patents. There s no mass prodution market on this level and niche. If other builders and designers are getting inspired...lets remember that "copy is the ultimate cumpliment". Specialy when improvement is add on it. And honestly this seems better then any Dashew i ever saw. Just move on please.
WOW. This is exactly how a yacht should look and be. Thanks for the viewing.

John and I had a chat a couple of weeks ago at De Valk Yacht Brokers. I had to compliment him for his standing salute everytime he passes a mirror, normally an akward moment, but John owns it! Thank you for the special standing salute in this video, very much appreciated! This Arksen is absolutely PERFECT! Wow! Just wow! That interior is spot on. I would not change a thing. The engineroom, a dream!

Great vid. Loved the boat. Really liked the layout on this one. Functional doesn't have to be ugly, and this yacht proofs it.

Wow! Love the aluminum look. I also like the interior colour scheme. All in all a fantastic yacht with an exceptional range.
Worth the wait! Not a bunch of overtly "luxe" finishes, but the level of craftsmanship is apparent in every surface. Honestly, it makes me less interested in buying a yacht and more interested in when Arksen will be making a spaceship.
Fantastic craft, would have the jointing flush personally but keep the aluminium look for lack of maintenance. You missed the heated water nozzles on the front facing windows to keep the windows clear in very cold climates and the fold down seating next to the day head and stairs. Loved the Scandinavian look and feel to the interior.
I don't think the toaster is going to work well in that space. 😁Love the layout.
I've been waiting for this one. Thanks a lot man!

Arksen has built a beautiful and functional explorer. The problem is you can have that boat built in Turkey for half the price with similar quality. The price/quality ratio just isn't there for Arksen right now.
Thank you for the tour. Interesting yacht, like the Danshew FPB series. Bare aluminum on the outside, treatment, and cleaning? Why wouldn't they smooth welding? Noted square windows at the waterline, and non-slopped glass for the pilot house.

Interesting to see no clear coat applied on the deckhead. For the southern ocean, condensation drips streak down on glass etc, and lead to corrosion. We apply Nyalic clearcoat, which resolves it easily.
This was one of the best boat walk through a I’ve seen. Very well done. You should be on every builder’s short list for content. Did I miss it in the video…draft? Boat looks well thought out for an owner operator couple if “enthusiasts” but I always wonder about how restrictive the draft would be on a boat of this size. Also, and this was mentioned below in another comment…how much cold food storage? That many berths means a lot of mouths to feed for an extended cruise. It would be good to show the food storage situation. What an engine room though. Wow. Overall really enjoyed this.

This is certainly a gorgeous boat, but I prefer the tours of the live-aboards that come in under 1M (pounds or dollars, take your pick). They feel more like something a person could put their hands on versus a boat like this.
how did they finish the hull to avoid the Alu blackening ?
Nice looking yacht. I still prefer the Bearing yachts.
You can definitely see it’s FPB linage 🍻
I like it just like so. Would only change minor things that are truly just minor gripes. But overall this is a grand slam! Not too big, not too small. If anything for its extreme long range it’s rather lacking in freezers, easily fixed imho
I would love that ship to go to Tuvalu
Great video and thanks for asking the Arksen guys my question! It was the 2nd one about the differences in propulsion. I do have one other question though, do you know how much the Arksen 85 costs? I know it can vary a lot based on selected options, but one similarly equipped as the one you toured would be nice.
Question.. with redundant systems are the service intervals staggered lets say a 10k/hr service on the primary, then staggered to say 5k/hr on the secondary so no 2 service intervals aline compromising the ships systems?
I guess my clients have to buy more (everything) as I am pretty sure this needs to be mine.
👍❤️
Always informative-keep the welds and finish raw, please! Big question-Arksen or Bering?
@YachtBuoy

Thanks for watching and a very good question! Let me ponder it for a bit…. 👀
The weld finish needs either quality improving or grind back. Sleeping accommodation for guests in an 85’ I thought could be more spacious. The safety features are ok but what about redundancy provision? Bearing and Nordhavns are to my mind far superior. Thanks for sharing sir. Always enjoy your tours.

I think you miss the point. it's not designed for volume interior; it's designed for efficiency. its dry weight is similar to a Nordhavn 60 footer.
I say this is a great craft and a big Amen to all the other accolades, what sort of value for the 85 spected as this one?
I think I’d opt to have the welds sanded, some of them are a little, hmmm, agricultural looking, and I can see that on a KZread vid never mind in person , it would grate on me. Maybe literally 😂 Still waiting on a 65.
Imagine if you are that hired help, the boatswain/engineer/deckhand, and you are around 1500 NM into your journey across the pacific and doing a bit of googling: "Hey boss, the fuel at our next stop in 1000 NM is a bit pricey....we can get it 40% cheaper only another 2000 NM further". "Sounds like a plan, we'll still have 35% tanks when we get there". 7000 NM....WOW
How does the aluminum hull react to marine life and salt water conditions .v anti growth paints ? In addition to the “flopper Stoppers”, can you get a gyro stabilizer system as well, guessing this would take some reconfiguration in the engine room though ? Thanks for the video, seriously nice boat !
Grinded wields, anything else is pure insanity.
I was wondering if they offered a hybrid version of this. That opens a lot of doors. With that range and a lot more pantry/freezer space, this becomes a serious Pacific Ocean explorer that is only limited by the amount of food you can carry.
Got some family from st helena island so if I was the owner that would be my first destination
With reference to the fire suppression system in the battery compartment I’m not aware of any fire suppression system that can put out a lithium battery fire. Submersion is about the only way to stop a lithium battery fire. Fire departments just let them burn themselves out.
@YachtBuoy

The composition of these marine batteries are different from the batteries which you find in domestic goods meaning that they are not as vulnerable to thermal runaway as the batteries found in e-bikes etc
My apologies if I missed it but I was wondering about fuel capacity and consumption.

Do you think the boating world is over-priced? Does it really need to cost what is does to be safe and accessible?
Isn't the toplevel pilot house totally unnecessary? Makes the whole boat top heavy. Just slightly raise the forward pilot area on the main deck like a traditional pilot cabin. Saves 25% in price 😉
It has promise but as someone who has spent hours on the helm I absolutely hate the huge pillars in the wheel house windows. They create some terrible blind spots. Particularly the one the runs straight down the centre.
Would be good if you can include chapter timestamp.
Honestly, is this boat really large enough to be a safe "explorer yacht"? It is not fast enough to outrun bad weather.

I had such high hopes for Arksen based on the sketches they released such as carrying a Nemo submersible and 2 giant tenders. This doesn't appear to be the case. The other thing was the unfinished aluminum. I had thought that these were to be covered in fairing material and painted. Not that it is a big deal, but just zome things about this didn't live up to the hype. Still an amazing yacht, but some of the things we were told just didn't materialize.

it's unfinished aluminum because that's what the owner wanted. just about all your criticisms are the way the owner specs the boat.

Well, the FBP's are linked to Berthon, in the isle of white, same region as Arksen, so there is that. It seems pretty clears that the Arksen is directly based on a Dashew design, which makes the lack of credit puzzling. I believe Dashew made is his designs public domain, or am I mystaken?

I think that's if you tick aaallll the options, pretty sure you could get it nearer 10M if choosing a more utility-spec.

The price is a reflection of the fact that Arksen uses retail shipyards to build their boats. They pay retail to have it built and then have to mark it up with their profits.

Can I see an engine room without any tie wraps? If a yacht is really integrally designed and engineered, this is no longer necessary.
I can not see that diesel electric is more fuel efficient than direct diesel propulsion, converting losses from diesel to electric, than losses in the electric motors and charge and discharge losses.
the only thing i dont like is seeing all the wielding joints
Is it me or does this look like a DIY yacht?
Dashew copy???
Yes and no. Some cute ideas but for the sake of being cute. I question some of the engineering.

There's a lot to like about Arksen's designs , but some weird bits, too. Started for me with that absurd heads compartment on the otherwise interesting Arksen 30 & continues here . Really dislike the curved , ie custom, glass fronting the pilothouse. Hard to replace....except by Arksen....which I'm sure is the idea. How many other things are bespoke that, as a far-ranging owner, you'd prefer to be off-the-shelf ? The wetlocker in the vestibule is a great idea, poorly-executed; where are the other 6-8 peeps putting their gear ? Handrails everywhere but a non-gimballed transbeam cooktop with your back to the action & no "U" behind ? I get mixed signals there; either the boat moves like a sailboat, thus the handrails, or it's stable enough for a domestic kitchen style galley. I guarantee lines will NOT dry in those open bulwark stowage spaces anywhere there is rain and/or spray, ie everywhere on the sea...lol... ( there's a reason gear lockers on quality boats are both drainable AND gasket-sealed) & look like a huge stability issue if you take water over the side. Fit & finish looked iffy in spots, too. Overly-stiff door & cupboard handles/hinges, brand-new but already sagging upholstery, unfinished & paint spattered edges on the underside of that stair stowage. If you can spot these sloppy details in a quick video, it makes you worry about the details you can't see that may be more than aesthetic. I don't think you'd see that on a Bering, for eg. Good first effort, but some issues to be worked out, imo. Sorry to be downbeat, YB, but honest feedback will do more for Arksen's future success than gushing ad nauseam, imo.
@vorjay
3 ай бұрын
the handrails are just in-case touches. the boat has Humphrey stabilizers and 2 sea keepers. again...the people comparing this to a Bering, that's about twice the dry weight if not more, seem to miss the point.
