Dealerships are not in the business of selling cars, they are in business to sell loans. My sister went to a dealer and wanted a 17k 3 year old car and when she said she had cash, she told me they were not happy about the cash sale.

I worked at a dealership where a few salespeople did this regularly to customers, and it was celebrated. They told the customer as long as he/she made the payments on the new vehicle, their credit would balance out. This, along with other unbelievably unethical behavior, is why I left that establishment.

Well cars have become disposable appliances with a hefty pricetag. They’re not built anymore with repair in mind. I just replaced a thermostat on my friend’s car. My car uses a $10 part, includes gasket. It’s a 1993 Toyota pickup. My friend’s 2012 chevy cruze now has a shiny new $85 thermostat... it’s integrated into the plastic housing which broke and started leaking badly after 8 years. The vapor purge valve for the evap system also failed, that was over $100. I expect at this rate it’ll need a new tranny which will essentially junk the car

I'm following Dave Ramsey from the poorest country you guys can think of. Started to listen to him to better my English (Stupid is my favorite word, lol), then was hooked on his financial advice. Most of it doesn't apply to me, because where I'm from only rich people have access to credit anyway, everyone else has to pay cash or starve. But it's interesting to learn about financial matters in America. The USA are the ultimate opportunity land. There is no excuse to be poor/broke in the richest country in the world if you're healthy. I really hope each American takes advantage of everything America offers, is grateful and make things happen for himself and his family.

My coworker told me a few months ago that her car was totaled by someone she knows. I advised her not get into another car loan. Yesterday, she got a new car loan on a car she says she hates. She put $4000 on the new car totaling $9000. Has around $250 for this car payment plus she pays $370 for the car that was totaled. I asked her why she didn't just find a used car for the amount she had in cash? She says she needed a car that was 2010 or newer so she can drive for Uber to make extra money to pay bills and legal fees. I was shocked by that and said that was a huge mistake. If you're already struggling financially, why would you add another payment? Not to mention her insurance is sky high because she's only 20. Its probrobly even higher because of the accident. I'm so disappointed in her and I really don't even know her..

When it came to the sales price, he took out a spreadsheet with monthly payments. He looked very disappointed when I said I was going to pay in cash. Afterwards he told me that they only had two cars in stock and that I could only get one if I bought with financing. Otherwise I'd had to wait at least 3 months. I left never to return, and now I own a used corolla paid in cash. Those dealers are crooks.

The numbers up front look good for the dealer but months down the road they lose on the back end when they take bulk bikes to auction. They wouldn't tell a person to give their bike back but inflate their income and give more on the trade then what it was worth and figured they could make it up the following month since it takes months for these bikes to go to auction. The comment below about financing is absolutely TRUE!! People would be in such" AWE" to get a new bike that the interest would kill them through high interest loan companies.

@@eggyhiccups2673 But that's totally our fault as consumers. We don't have to buy these things how we buy them and we don't have to walk into a situation without much knowledge. You can only be scammed without knowledge. Back before big business cared about consumers thoughts they use to provide no health coverage, didn't care about the environment, didn't mention political things and had child labor. Once these things became unprofitable, business changed, they do all that now. Everyone business should be trying to be profitable, you cannot exist as a business without profit, the problem is HOW you got the profit. If you sell $20,000 cars for $30,000 and people come buy them anyway and you're not scamming anyone, nobody cares, they have the option to buy it from you or Car dealer #4010 but they chose you, perhaps they like your service, you're not lying about anything, your price is just your price. If consumers push to change the culture of business like we did before, this wouldn't happen. Companies didn't care about any of the stuff they care about now 100 years ago or more. Public reaction and state and federal government response made them change. People are too polarized today over political ideals to do it again, we think we know it all. How hard is it to know how a car deal is done and what makes sense and then tell every dealership nope for just 4 weeks. Let car dealers not sell a single car in 4-8 weeks and then have a story break it's because of scammy tactics. They will change immediately, they have to because it hit their pockets. Cars have indeed risen in price dramatically more than people's pay. Hence why we have 84 month loans and leases. Not that long ago you could finance a car for 3-4 years and drive it for years after paying it off. Now the loan is so long you're paying for very expensive repairs while still making a huge car payment.
