When I was a Senior in High School in 1983-4, when graduation time was coming, and friends you treasured were all splitting up to go to separate colleges, universities and some to the military, it was a hard time for many of us to have to say goodbye and good luck to people you may not see again. It was the most requested song in radio back in 1984. We didn't want to lose touch with our friends and we wanted our friendships to last forever. Though I'm not in touch with all of my old friends, little by little I find more of the ones I lost touch with. Some are no longer with us. This song brings me back to those great times in youth. I absolutely love Hall and Oates. Thank you for sharing this video and bringing back such awesome memories. I love you guys!!!

On paper, “Out Of Touch” is a song about a couple that's drifting apart, losing the tenderness that once held them together. Reaching out for something to hold Looking for a love where the climate is cold Manic moves and drowsy dreams Or living in the middle between the two extremes Smoking guns hot to the touch Would cool down if we didn't use them so much, yeah We're soul alone And soul really matters to me Too much You're out of touch I'm out of time But I'm out of my head when you're not around

They only had 2 top ten singles in South Africa, which is so strange because all their songs were played on the radio all the time, their albums also reached the top ten and one album reached no. 3. This song makes me happy and sad, emotional since it came out, strange effect, and I was 14 when this came out. And still feels the same about it. Darryl's song Dreamtime was a great song as well.

I was 13 in 1984. My first year in high school. This song really captivated me then when I could turn it up (kind of) LOUD on by el cheapo boom box and get told by my parents to "turn that crap down!". Now in 2023 I have a big garage and over 1kW of sound system (and yeah that is real RMS rating not peak power). Even though I live out of town on a big block the neighbours come around to tell me to "turn it down" even though they agree they don't mind the music :) I recommend you check out the whole "Big Bam Boom" album. Greetings from Australia!

My interpretation of this song, this is what the cool kids would call a “toxic relationship”. The couple fights and the “out of touch” is that the one person in the relationship isn’t able to connect with the other (selfish maybe) and the other doesn’t want to waste anymore time. However, even though it’s not the best relationship the person that wants to leave is still emotionally attached and can’t get themselves to leave.

*He can't live with her, but he can't live without her.* "Reaching out for something to hold.. looking for a love, but the climate is cold." Their love has fizzled out. "Smoking guns.. hot to the touch, would cool down if we didn't use them so much." They're always fighting with each other. "You're out of touch. I'm out of time. But, I'm out of my head when you're not around." He can't "reach" her and can't wait around anymore. But, he still misses her.

This is the version they played in the clubs back in the 80s. I liked it, anything was better than f****n Disco. God did I ever hate that music. Thank goodness it finally died out. It was done in on July 12, 1979, when Chicago's Comiskey Park held a Disco Demolition night at the ballpark. The fans went batshit crazy and destroyed all kinds of shit. The police arrested about 40 people and they actually had to cancel the ball game that night. Sadly, there were about a dozen or so injuries, which should have never happened. I was all for killin off Disco, but hurting people-hell no. Yeah, disco by the end of the 70s was hated with a passion by many people. Love your reactions and comments, Brad & Lex. Rock on, y'all. Later...

I can visually see Back to the Future when I hear this song 😅 that is my interpretation. Think about it

Definitely seems a remix, bit of what sounds like New Order added at the start and end.

Skip to 1:00 and you'll be sound as a pound. 😉 Side Note: Love this song, and have since I was eleven (the age, not the little telekinetic girl).
