'This is like communist Russia!' | Young Thug attorney Brian Steel to Fulton Superior Court

Another day, another set of fireworks inside the courtroom where Atlanta’s trial of the century is underway.
On Thursday, and only hours after the Supreme Court of Georgia granted him bond, Young Thug attorney Brian Steel said his acclaimed musician client’s trial is unfair; accused Fulton County Assistant Chief District Attorney Adriane Love of lying; and likened Chief Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville’s courtroom of “being like communist Russia.”

@@jeanmarywooderson8277 no you’re right, but it seems like in the eyes of the judge & the DA’s office they’ve already convicted him in their minds. A judge is supposed to be a mediator, he’s not supposed to play for either team, but in this case he’s so biased it’s hard to even watch. At this point the whole thing is just a media circus & no matter the outcome, he’s gonna get out because of this judge alone. So they need to just declare a mistrial & give this man an actual legitimate chance to defend himself.

Any questions witnesses that he shouldn't question behind closed doors. Basically it's all a conspiracy with him talking to the prosecutor talking to the witness he is conspiring. I don't know if anybody could get him on attempt to conspire. But I've known people that went to jail for conspiracy and they didn't have a lot of proof, but they went to jail for it.

My view, which I am entirely entitled too, by the way, is from observing him fumble the handling of the intransigent witness up to the point of holding an improper ex-parte meeting. That meeting qualifies as being over his head in my book. Then to double down when his improper action is revealed further indicates his inadequacy as a jurist. He can have all the paper qualifications in the world, but to have gotten himself into the position he is now in requires a special kind of ineptitude which my 35 plus years of professional experience can both spot and comment on.

Brian Steel is an amazing lawyer. The judge is operating way over his head, the trial is complex but it is going on after an unreasonable amount of delays, and the DA is playing games. In general this judges advancement career is toast, and due to his actions they are likely headed for mistrial restarting the entire 1.5 year process to date. I understand that the witness seemed confused on his immunity deal and did change to start pleading the 5th (which probably would have ended his immunity). However there was a basic rule of procedure that the defense did have the right for at a minimum to get notice and have the opportunity to object or state opinions to an Ex Parte meeting after the witness was sworn under oath. It is extremely different if this occurred prior to the witness being called to the stand. But once the witness takes the stand the rules change to protect the court from potential impropriety. Then to make matters worse the judge denied a hearing to examine if improprieties existed, which then at least suggests bias even if none exists. Then the judge ordered Mr Steele to reveal his source, which violates the Georgia Bar association rules and would put Mr Steele in jeopardy of being disbarred. Then the judge found him in Direct Criminal contempt and denied him a hearing on that matter, which is a violation of the Georgia constitution. And finally the Judge refused requests to have the matter examined by an independent judge, which he is required to do under judicial procedure. If Mr Steele and the 25 other lawyers on the defense side did not have grounds for a mistrial over impropriety before, they have one now. Most likely after this case the Judge will be censured by the Judicial Review Board of Georgia over the embarrassment and mis-management of the case. Which depending on the severity either means going down to the bottom of the list in Sonority, or for more severe cases taken off active duty (which is basically the You will do no judge work of consequence for Georgia from now on, so just go do menial tasks until you decide you wish to retire for personal reasons).
