This can be good or bad, depending on the kid; some will work hard, graduate, get a trade or college to take care of Mom. Others will start making money earlier in illegal ways. it's a damn hard way to live, and she's past worry, and feels she has no ability to change her circumstances. She should qualify for WIC, wonder if she applied?

This is not living, this is existing & it is extremely depressing to watch.

To be honest where i live minimum wageis about $3.50 an hour thats $1.75 US.Still people are living comfortable with just that.and mofo around here has 3-5 kids on that salary .

That doesn't work. State-level politicians receive relatively low pay (not minimum wage level of course), but all that has lead to is their ranks being filled with rich businessman who can afford to do legislating as a sort of hobby and often fundraise their own campaigns (and make laws that suit the interests of themselves at the expense of the rest of us). You need publicly financed elections and a fundamental overhaul of the lobbying/legalized bribery that dominates the political process to get real change. Constitutional amendment-level overhaul because the corporatist Supreme Court justices were literally appointed _because_ of their willingness to enable/legitimize the bribery, so they'll gut most federal laws meant to change things.

I make $16 an hour and that still isn’t enough, and what sucks the most out of it is that the government claims that I make too much to receive assistance such as housing or WIC/Stamps. I have a two year old daughter and in a month we’ll be bound to be homeless due to the whole renting progress being broken as well. I cannot get into a place without somebody telling me that I need a co-applicant, but I don’t have anybody. I don’t care if I have to live in a studio apartment, I just want the best life for my daughter that’s not in a shelter.

Tough to watch. She works and collects multiple government benefits to barely get by. She seems very responsible. So sad. I spent my 20's in poverty, it was hard. I found a career path in my 30's, and when I had kids at 40 I pushed them hard to take school serious and I put them both through college. They have good careers and didn't have to go thru what I did. I hope her son does well, but the odds are not in his favor.

He has since provide entry and exit points on the securities I focus on. I basically follow his trade pattern and haven’t regretted doing so.

That's true for a lot of families. Plenty of stay at home moms until kindergarten because they won't earn enough working to pay for the child care. That's with a second income of course. Single parents or anyone on assistance of course has to follow the rules set by politicians who are convinced everyone is out to game the system. They need her to "prove" she earned the assistance by working, never mind that it makes zero financial sense. She doesn't work she won't qualify for any of the programs, so she works, costing the government more money.

Exactly, I hate when boomers say crap like "you're not making enough money because you're lazy and don't work hard!!!!!" when people like this woman bust their tails off working at retail stores or fast food places (I've worked retail before and it is NOT easy and you are on your feet all day, so don't even start with the laziness thing) and they still don't make enough money to survive. It's not that people aren't working hard, it's that companies aren't paying people living wages.

I was in her position and I was homeless many times. In the end...I moved back in with my parents and went to the career center and got a good job. I never stopped striving for a better career.

Such sadness in her eyes. Hope she is doing better today. Much respect for even working.

I don't know what I think about situations like this. At first you want to criticize and say "don't do this" "don't do that". I have been lucky, but I came from very little. I was also fairly smart, but I worked hard in school and got a doctorate. I'm not sure why some people fail to see the importance of school and others are lifted out by gifts, luck, or opportunity. It's unfornately the reality we live in. If we make it easier to be lazy then more people will be lazy. If we make it harder than we are failing as a society.

My parents both worked minimum wage job so that my siblings and I can have a better life. Now we are all pretty successful in our career thanks to my parents. It was very difficult for my parents to raise us, so i cannot image what she is going through as a single mother.

Reasons like this make me feel better about tax time. You deserve help! You’re a hard worker and keep your head up. Hope everything is better since the video

When I have a child, I will inform them that being a social media star or an influencer is not a real job. If they like the camera, I will arrange for acting lessons so they can become a legitimate actor, or work in broadcast journalism or something along those lines. The day is coming when these platforms will be demonetized (Tik Tok, KZread, whatever else is out there) and brands will come to realize that partnering with these "influencers" is hurting their bottom line (well, that and the fact that their products are of cheap quality, vastly overpriced and produced via child slave labor in places like Guatemala). The day of reckoning is upon us. Workers unite!

@@Abjecthda The struggle is real but not impossible to overcome. There are many factors that can make the struggle harder then what it is. One is by having kids out of wedlock at a young age. Two is by engaging in criminal activity resulting in a built up criminal record. The 1964 War On Poverty Bill passed by President Lyndon B. Johnson give poor Americans huge opportunities to rise up the economical latter.

Both include a bonus 10% on whatever you earn which goes towards your retirement fund. This is all legislation. It's up to the government. Why would McDonalds want to voluntarily pay more money!? They don't gaf about their employees. McDonalds is a business. They want to earn as much profit as possible.

She said she makes $230-$240 every TWO weeks. That’s $115-$120 per week... And $436 per month. Oh my god. I made that at my first job at a grocery store and I can attest to the fact that it’s nothing. I didn’t even have bills at the time, I just lived at home. I can’t imagine the stress of trying to support yourself and a child on this amount of pay. Our system is so broken and it breaks my heart. I hope they paid her well for this interview and I hope she and her child are doing better now. I wish we could get an update. Also social programs are a lifesaver, we need more of them in this country.

Maybe you missed the part where she mentions her 2 week earnings indicating she's working part time. This is NOT a representation of working for $7.50 an hour it's a representation of somebody working PART TIME making 7.50. She needs to work full time, get a second job to get more hours or a combination of both. And here's a thought how about going after the deadbeat dad. She also chose to have a child in what i promise you was with some complete loser. Seems to be that basically ALL of her issues she brought on herself and it's complete and utter bullshit to claim this is a representation of what it's like to live on that wage because she is only working, again, part time.

I made sure that i would never walk in her shoes at 22yrs old. It’s called hustling, do it hard in your twenties, easier to recover when you’re young, take aggresive, calculated, sometimes risky investments, you can take losses when your young. Do more, you have a Son.

With all respect, do not be a single mother at 22 working for $7.50. Minimum wage is, well, minimum. It is not meant to cover the expenses of two people.

My question is: is this video supposed to show the benefits of no educational training, a baby out of wedlock, and still able to survive with govt assistance or to expose the sickening reality of being a laborer at McDonald's? Thankfully, working in fast food with a wage like that has gotten better since this video. HOWEVER, people are still struggling financially out here and living on benefits.

No woman plans on being a single mother. Trust me, most women choose a man thinking he's a good one and then he leaves/ abusive. My sister is a WARRIOR!! single mom of 4! she put herself through nursing school and relies on noone, no gov assistance. She provides for her family very well on her own! You have to work hard! Never say you can't because anyone can do this. :)

This is someone that is trying to be a good citizen, there should be a education program to help young people like her

Patrick Turlan there are programs but that means putting her son in daycare for longer periods of time, they’re already cutting her hours having an open schedule imagine if she were to change it to go to school, also she’ll end up spending more on bus far to get to the location. Those are little extra expenses that add up when you’re nickel and diming it

I was in her shoes not a long ago.. darkest time of my life.. I knew I had to make changes.. no company or corporation will look after you.. you have to be actively looking for another job or another skill to learn.. get yourself out of the hole .. the longer you wait the harder it gets.

I worked as an IT guy for a home care agency for awhile.. and I ended up learning how they do their scheduling and doing payroll.. today I'm one of the managers( not bragging) .. if it wasn't for me willing to learn stuff I had no business learning I wouldn't be here or improved my situation.

Try shopping at Aldi's or Save-A-Lot to save money on groceries for you and your son. Please try asking family & trusted friends to help with food. And you go can in some churches to ask if have a free food pantry to help with food. And the next time you go to the Aid Office,ask your case worker if they can give you a list of some food pantries in your area. I hope you and your family have more than enough of everything you need continually. It will get a lot better. Believe that. Stay strong. Be blessed.

And the part of this video that is interesting is that her desire to survive is very good .People in this country have more wealth than know what to do with .A lot of them them overdosing and blowing there brains out and jumping off cliffs .They have every reason to be satisfied with there life - but are not .She has nothing but a wealth of perseverance .

I've been there. That min wage life is no joke. This year at 22,my bf and I found out I was pregnant and knew it was the last time I'd ever work min wage jobs. I made 110 every week working full time at Planet Fitness. But I enrolled myself in a Dental Assistant course and graduated in 4 months. No dental or non related dental job wanted to hire me because I was pregnant, but I never gave up. Just 3 weeks ago when I was about to give up, the Department of Community Health called me saying they had my resume and would like for me to start asap in the Board of Pharmacy&Dentistry. I was worried cuz I was pregnant and they didn't know but it didn't phase them and at almost 8 months pregnant I got my first career ! Now I make in a week what I used to make in a month at Planet Fitness, I work in a respecful and stress free office environment&I love what I do. No one's getting worked to death and whining for hrs, we all work Mon thru Fri 8 to 5. I can't wait to be promoted and continue my education to make more money and get my degrees. I didn't want my child to struggle and I made sure to make it happen! It's not easy, but you've got to be driven! If you want a career, make it happen. My goal is to have a successful life where me and my child will never struggle again and I'm on that path. Strive for a career, min wage was never meant for adults to raise kids or survive on. Believe in yourself 😊

You are very lucky you have a lot more than what me and my sister had when we were lucky and my mum was working two jobs. We live in the UK too and your life looks likes luxury compared to what we went through.

Where is the father? Why did you have kids if you were not financially secure enough to look after a child? Why didn't you use contraception?
