Revelations indeed! I absolutely loved how this story was handled and firmly cements Col Tigh as one of my favorite characters in this show. Naturally, this leaves me with all the questions about what’s next. I’ll see you in six months! (Or next week 😉)

    One of the things I find common among the reactors I watch regarding this series: Season 1: "I hate Tigh! He's terrible! Get rid of him!" Season 4: "Tigh is GREAT! Tigh is an INCREDIBLE character! I LOVE TIGH!!"

    Well, big surprise. We nuked ourselves. Lots of ways they could've handled Earth, and I definitely think this was a really good choice. And, as D'Anna said, only four of the Final Five Cylons were with the Fleet. Which answers the question of why the Fifth member of the Final Five didn't activate with the others. It was something which seemed so logical to me. Why wouldn't the fifth member of the Final Five activate too? Why wouldn't the signal turn them on like with the rest? And the answer is simple. *They aren't with the fleet.* They aren't there. Why wouldn't they be there? And there is a rather logical answer to that too. Also, The Plan is not the end of Battlestar Galactica. After the Plan there is *Caprica (2010)* and *Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (2012).* Don't listen to naysayers, they are part of the series, keep watching. Are they perfect? No. But they're both still worth watching and reacting to.

    @@CasualNerdReactions For sure. Just gotta remember the hiatus after this episode. The great build up emotionally. Lee dancing on the CnC table, the shot from space with the fleet over the planet. The triumphant collections of transports descending to the atmosphere and then the 🖕and roll to credits LOL.

    The Plan is worth watching (and reacting). It gives the Cylon’s perspective on the whole story, and provides some answers to lingering questions and plot holes. I would recommend watching The Plan just BEFORE the finale. The reason is that The Plan is Ok, but not great, and the Finale is simply better. Watching the Plan after the finale will feel very anticlimactic. Watching before the finale leaves the best for last.

    Such a good episode, best of the season. I loved mean, drunken XO Ty in the miniseries, and I love Saul Ty here. No matter his origin, he is a patriot. This is also the episode where Lee steps all the way out of his father's shadow. Bill breaking, the brinksmanship, D'anna's face when she realizes that all of this has happened before. All of the cast brought their A-game for this.

    Diaspora Oratario (aka, the speech/Song of the Scattered People (though I like Song of the Sundered myself- its close enough...)) keeps playing when I hear about people close to me dying or dead- like, 5 times this has happened where I get the phone call while this song is playing (either by itself or in the episode). Already written in that its one of the songs playing at my funeral... This was the episode that I went to see at the Arclight Hollywood, where they had a "proper" (read, gated) cast/crew interaction- its weird dealing with those after you've literally been to people's houses for birthday showings... BUT it did include a proper, crowd based EJO led SO SAY WE ALL (outside, while we were all waiting) And yes, you could've heard a pin drop once the episode ended.

    I was left with my jaw opened. In no way did I think they would arrive to an uninhabitable world. I also realized that as a very potential end of the story, who could they put that in the middle of the season? So my mind went to how to survive on a dead planet. Maybe that would and the series. Instead, we get to continue the story for another 10 weeks.😁

    It is so freaking typical for BSG to end a six month break with this kind of ending. Adam picking up the earth. The geiger counter clicking to show it's radioactive. Everyone looking so sad and dejected. going from the absolute celebratory "We made it" to the absolute horror of this sight.... Waiting those six months sucked, but back then, we were used to it. Binging a stream wasn't a thing in them olden days.

    That’s where I’ll end up watching it, as several patrons strongly suggested the same. Most online watch orders suggest watching it after no exit and after watching episode 16 I still think I would have found it narratively satisfying to watch it there as a flashback mid season, but I obviously can’t form my opinion fully until I see it. Thanks for chiming in!

    The reccomended placement is directly after no exit which is where we fully saw Ellen and her many conversations with Cavil. They even references a plan in the episode. It seems like a good place to go back and see that plan. I can’t say if it does spoil anything following that episode or not, only that several watch guides suggest it doesn’t. I just like the narrative idea of flashing back there and letting the finale be the last thing you watch from the series. We’ll see how I feel after watching it. I’m sure I’ll discuss its placement afterwards in the reaction.

    And maybe Caprica & Blood and Chrome... the latter is more of a fun bit during the end of the 1st Cylon War, the former a prequel leading up to Cylons being CYLONS

  • @danshoham1714
    @danshoham17142 ай бұрын

    1. The hostage execution never made any sense to me. What was Dianne hoping to achieve? She won't tell the humans who the final (4 of) 5 are, but is pressuring them to send those cylons over anyhow. How does she think the humans could comply? 2. That crackling sounding instrument used on the dirt is a Geiger counter. It measures radioactivity. The faster the crackling, the more radiation. I've used it (long ago) in graduate physics labs. The level we hear is not immediately dangerous, but too high to be habitable. If the landing party departs within a few days, they should be fine; if they stay for a year, not fine. The primary long-lasting radioactive isotope from a nuke (Sr90 and Cs138) both have half-life of about 30 years, so every 1000 years, radiation level would drop by a factor of about a billion ( = 0.5**(1000/30) ). Since the landing party is right inside a nuked city, the original level must have been fairly high, so even thousands of years later the soil would still show plenty of background radiation. (I'd think that if you go away from the cities, you could find places where radiation levels are almost back to natural levels; but that's not what the show wanted to do; also, radiation level in space, where they spend most of their time, is fairly high as well -- so the rural areas of a long-ago nuked planets are probably less radioactive than staying in a spaceship).

But Cylons don't really die, do they? So: bit character? Supporting character? One of the nameless background characters??

  • @BobHerzog1962
    @BobHerzog19622 ай бұрын

    I'm really happy for you how exited you are about season 4. I just can't. Several plots are sadly to rushed or not as grounded in how people would react as were those in earlier seasons. We literally did go from let's commit genocide against the cylons to lets ally with the cylon rebells within a few episodes. Compare that to how long it took for Athena to be trusted, how desperate they needed to be to even let her try to earn their trust and to the grain of reality they left in the show that there are still a lot of people who would love to just kill her anyways.

    @@CasualNerdReactions We can talk about that when it comes up. But overall season 4 feels like an unfinished product. Or like two sides in the writeing team wanted to tell their resoloution and they just went with both of them. Even the explenation of the final fives is a bit hairbrain once you think about them. Not so much where they come from, but how they were inserted into the colonies. Just think about the age differences between them for example ... From Adama's memories we know he an Tigh know each other longer than the younger onces are (officially alive). But him being inserted decades eaerlier than the others does not fit the explenation how and why the five were send to the colonies. Not to mention where the heck Tigh's service record from the first war ought to come from (including meeting Adama ...). Overall it feels like they decided at the end of season 3 which characters would be a good twist to be the final five and then thought they could deliver a good explenation later on.
