My Dad was a carpenter for 45 + years after he got the measurements he would build the rafters on the ground and then put them on the roof
That was really interesting to see the kangaroo rat with the snake. It was gonna save its baby at any expense.❤ brave little rat❤
I hope you use that prototype truss as a template and make all the rest you need on the ground
Great footage of mama saving her baby.
You should create a short with the rescue mom, that thing could go viral!
The roof is going to be cool. I'm glad momma mouse saved her baby. ❤
Just letting you both know that you should really be proud of the amount of work you have already done on your land....I am so excited for you both to have this new style to your house being built....just a reminder Rome was not built in one day hehehhehe....so keep on keeping on...I love your video's.....and that snake and rat dang....what a good mama to catch that baby and get it in hiding...stay strong....
Wishing you a happy week! ❤

You 2 are motoring thru the jobs. Keep up the good work.
Hi ho! Hi ho! It's back to school you go! Those lockers brought back some long forgotten memories...
My husband had a chance to purchase some old lockers. We have them on one side of our car port and store lots of things needed for car repairs in them. Standing jacks, antifreeze, oil, spare head lights, air compressor tool for airing up tires, brake fluid, powering steering fluid, WD-40 are only a few of the items
Another great episode of your life in the desert. Between the new build coming along and scaffolding to help you put up trusses you'll have a roof in no time. Jess's improvements in the geodesic dome for planting took shape pretty quickly. It'll be interesting to see your progress in the future. Jess if you add a dollop of grape jelly on the orange it will help attract orioles to your feeders. ❤
If you needed to do several trusses, you should of used the first one to make jig.

Making a pattern piece for each of the pieces of the truss will save tremendous amount of time and also give you consistency 😊

It's nice to see that you're building a structure over the door to the living/bedroom dome. I imagine that will be great protection from the strong winds when going in and out the door.
Good morning, how are you feeling today? Hope everybody's having a wonderful day. Keep up the good work and God bless both of you.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Put a header up so your rafters can sit on ,you can billed a platform 2x6 across the stairs and put other one horizontal across then to stablelise them then you can use your scaffolding over it
I was raised to use mothballs around the garden area to ward off the critters. Still do to this day. Nice works folks!
I've built many lockers in my day. They're usually in banks of 2 or 3. Tear out is the funnest though. Tuns of treasure under them. Best find was a gold bracelet that weighed 12 grams.
You are such a delightfull couple best of luck with your build 😊

Hi Jess and Jim, I had some lockers like those. To store lots of stuff I added internal shelves which made a lot of difference. I stored paint, tools bolt tins, screw tins etc. that little kangaroo roast was a feisty little one protecting its bub. Stay safe and healthy, see you on your next.
TY for the VIDEO 😊 PEACE
Make and mark a pattern rafter . Then draw out all of them at once so not climbing up and down so much😂
You are making great progress. Good to see it all❤
I love your garden. It’s a great place to go,unwind and nurture.❤
we call what you built a trust system use that one to build a jig and you can build them all alike great video with the desert rat fighting the snake for its baby you had a great amount of stuff going on in this one love be safe god bless
Wow Jess, I'm impressed with your rebar cutting. Well done!
Living with the wild life is way more than I could 🗣 no snakes, or rate. 👀Progress on your building's 📣🌞🇬🇧
Make platform to go across the two lower roof sections so you can stand between and build the high section
You need to put bracing in on the corners on the lower part or you're going to end up top heavy and the wind is going to blow you down
It surprises me that you didn't put up your Ridge Beam before putting up the rafters at your gable ends. But it's your build to do as you please. I'm glad you have scaffolding to stand on while you're working up there. Stay safe.
Build all of your trusses on the ground. (Those are called Trusses) They are small enough for two people to get them set. 😊 Set a couple of planks across the stairs and set a piece of plywood on that. Ladders will work then. 😊
A movable catwalk across the existing frame might work for attaching the rafters
It's coming along nicely ! Snake don't give up their food easily " Mom was not having it, Or losing it i should say, Your going to have more shade soon :)
Great project ,looking forward to next vlog ❤ thanks for sharing 😊. From zanzibar
Jess, I cover the ground and all my plants with tulle fabric until late in the season. It is cheap, light as air and one has so much material there should always be enough. It does not disturb growth but keeps out a lot of critters. The colors are not that noticeable but fun to pick out. Usually 40 yards x 54" for $20.
16:32 I always use the good old pair of bolt cutters to cut the rebar very fast and works really well
As much as I love the root cellar, I love the barndominium just as much and maybe even more! 😊👍Keep up the great work!💪
i feel going through the same stuff, need to have a manual on age lol but in all seriousness guys girl if something changes get checked and tested even if it seems a small change. life is precious and we are fragile
Really enjoy your videos

Youre work is so good. Good on you
Have a great week. Sending good wishes from the UK 😊🇬🇧
Jim, have you considered building a scaffolding over the fruit cellar? You already have the support beams left and right . Add a few 2x6 or 2x8 and add a cat walk across them.
Can’t wait till I’m back in that area! Fell in love with it while living there 24 years ago. Best of luck to you guys!
I’m so amazed at all the work you guys have done
Those are great ideas for organizing ❤
We have a lot of bird pressure on our gardens here in Texas. You might need to cover the whole dome with bird netting, and make the door a solid door.
Looking great Jim,Did you see Peter one hand that locker thanks Peter for the help today,Jess the garden coming along nicely it's going a be amazing when your done !
Getting things done once again, y'all got this.
It's looking amazing 👏 🤩
Omg snakes r a Hugh NO here in North Texas many blessings ❤
Great progress x
Yes I have been following you for a while. Not creepy like. But following. Every. Single. Video.
I keep meaning to get lockers for the garage but they want $100+ for them around here. Also citrus is what’s in some dog anti-bark collars. It sprays the citrus if they bark.
these two are pretty cool
Im looking forward to seeing what you're making in the geodome garden. The (allium?) Plant looks so healthy and beautiful. Might you be adding a bench to that area to watch the birds and see the plants?
Trusses... As long as they're all the same... Lay the prototype type flat and build on top
Nice !
for the part over the stairs just make a cat walk from the part of the roof you have finished raftered and you do know you can build all the rafters on the ground instead of one at a time running up and down the ladder and put them in place that is how it is usually done . you would lay them in upside down and a person on the ground would using a long pole roll the rafter up and stabalize it while it is nailed in place
Would suggest making A truss Jig. Then using mending plates to hold it together. Since they will all be identical.
Thumbs up. Enjoyed. Keep up the good work. 😊
I love seeing your progress. you guys are troopers.
Tying the new structure into the roof of the dome will be interesting. I’m sure you have it figured out.
Love watching you too.
1st thing u need to built…A solid saw work bench with a chop saw & a vice..You’re gonna use it for years.
Looking good. Love love love it!!!
That was cool with the Kangaroo Rat! 😊
Looking Awesome!
Awesome video as usual. Keep up the great work. You guys are rocking it.

Great wildlife segment. Snake vs Kangaroo rat. Also loved seeing the Lazuli Bunting visitor. Migrant passing through and of course nice desert cardinal (Pyrhrloxia) singing in the background.

Thanks Don! The snake and the mice were an awesome catch to film.
OK, generally I do not comment on people's lives but I am going to be a big buttinsky today because well I just have to know sooner rather than later. And I would rather not wait a week. I hope I am not too late to pass this along, and if you have already incorporated any of this I apologize in advance. But, as a former framer I have some observations, some questions, and some suggestions. Your prototype could use maybe a center web. What are you planning on attaching your trusses to? Are you going to set them on top of your lower roof's rafters or the rafter's "header"? What was the center spacing you used on the lower rafters? One side looks like 16" and the other 24". Are you planning on jigging this truss on the ground? And now to ease my OCD and ADD. Did you bolt those lower roof "headers" to those 4x4s? And, could you maybe add some blocking under those "headers"? It just makes me nervous and I see you get some wind and I would hate see your roof get lifted off. Over engineer everything. I know I am getting ahead of the story line, but, I have to ask. What type of roof is going on the upper section? Now, I am a retiree and I am living vicariously through you because I really miss Arizona so I worry about you. Now, I have already fallen off one roof so you kids be dang careful.
Nice progress guys!. And safety first on scaffold work. 👍😎
Have you thought about incorporating cob as the insulation between your 4 by 4 barn supports? I'm still looking for the videos I saw a couple years ago. The concept was much like the dome regarding thermal mass & cost effective. The look would unify the two buildings as well. When I find those other videos, I'll send it to you if you're interested.
I absolutely love the way you continue your sawdust while cutting
if you need something longer for over the stairs u can get a plank at say home depot(scaffolding plank) that will fit inbetween the rungs on yer 2 ladders. just b super careful if u go that route. plus if u go to u of a in tucson they have a surplus sale warehouse that has old file cabinets and lockers along with all kinds of other stuff.

Do you know the name of the surplus warehouse? I'd love to get a few lockers as well!
It's coming along great you guys
This one makes me so happy. to see young kids like the 2 of you use eye-ear protection. if I only knew then what I know now. Right? So many questions. Been following you when you started you sandbag house, later called your cob home. Could you do an Update on the owner-builder Opt-out? I searched and found little of it from 2021 forward. Other then the dude that ran for elected office. last year he wants to increase the permit money to go to the county. up to 75%. which I know means the permits costs will be passed onto the owner builders. Todays age has gotten crazy. seems like more and more people want out of the rat race. Thanks in advance on if you do an update or not.😁
Stay at it you're getting it. Nice job thank you ALL stay safe
Impressive 😮
❤WONDERFUL ❤
Thanks for sharing 😀👍🎂
I'am making home made buttermilk, and Dried Onions. MY GOD I WENT THREW SOME ONION. Dehydrated them. But they will last for ever in JARS > for soups, salsa, and things. I'am making a bigger food dehydrator out of a old 30" oven I just got the trays all screened in. Going to mount it out side, by the back door.. That will keep all the smells out of the house
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
Things are moving along. Hope you can figure out a good way to get around that doorway area
Gorilla carts are heavy duty and dump maybe good idea getting one. Alot of rocks
GREAT start on the roof !!! I built many homes with my boyfriend. The first one he hand built all, after had trusses delivered and set. You are doing great... Moving along
gardening in the southwest is so hard and challenging, I know I'm in el paso, recomend full sun only half the day, and full shade the other half🌈💚
Living life the right way ❤
👌👌👌
I bury those rocks in my garden to gather and hold moisture. Home made mulch too.
Did you know you could cut that rebar halfway through and then bend it and it will snap right apart
I feel you on the getting old stuff. I miss the days when I could just go do things and not think much about the possible consequences. I had the poo in the cup test a few weeks ago...not a fun process, but it was that or a colonoscopy...which is still on the schedule down the road. Just keep active, eat healthy, it all matters more as we get up there in age. Nice to see Crew out walking. DO the fur babies still not get along much? Love this house build video!
You guys are very unique because you do things your way, I like that about your channel keep up the great work
