    G Thomas is definitely the wily elder statesman of the professional peloton and we’ve seen many instances where he was able to pull himself back into races by intelligently riding within his own limits. Even though I don’t think he’s able to beat any of the top 3 GC riders (Pogacar, Jonas, and Roglic) outright, he is definitely a threat who can take advantage of the right situations. Week 3 is probably where we’ll see some of that G Thomas magic go to work.

  • @mattpotter8725

    @mattpotter8725

    Yeh, totally agree with you. As we saw last year, and in the time trial a few days ago, he seems to have problems with time trials against the very best these days, especially when they have uphill kickers at the end which many do these days. It'll be interesting whether he can beat Martinez though so could have a bad day when we get to the bigger mountains in the final week, but he's doing a great job considering this is probably his final season. His only hope of winning though is it Pog either has a really bad day, sickness, or crashes out. It says something when Ineos still have to rely on him for GC. Would love to see him win but just can't see it.

    My take on Bahrain is that they were putting pressure on Uiterbroeks for the White jersey. I dont think Tibieri would have closed the gap without that effort? Chris G said Pog told him a lot of riders are putting pressure on him to let the break go which he did today a bit resentfully quote “everybody’s happy for once”. Your coments?

  • @jerrychicken967
    @jerrychicken96720 күн бұрын

    On Watts Occurring podcast, Luke said he's finished as a rider. He was only looking for another year of riding and the concussion has brought that decision forward. Think he'll try to ride a few last races and then that's it. As for JV, Ineos were out for 2/3 hrs with a climb and two other teams were there on the climb. 🤔 I think if most teams are doing it then he's not quite a Knucklehead 😉

    To the credit of the British commentator, he made the same point Chris makes here about teams protecting their top 10 positions rather than trying to put pressure on Pogacar. As he said, those top 10 grand tour finishes mean money, and the directors can't just focus on winning. But it's a bummer to see everyone racing for 2 through 10 this early. If the race organizers want a better Giro, they should try for a more competitive Giro.

    No one knows Tiberi’s abilities yet at a GT rider really because his best is a 18th at the Vuelta last year. This is stage 10 and he blew up also today and lost time in the finish. Cian dropped at 600 and Tiberi at 100 that’s pretty close to equal. I don’t believe BV started riding to drop Cian. They started riding to protect 6th spot on GC which means it’s going to a really long Giro if BV plan to ride every stage to protect 6th. Or maybe 5th if they do happen to drop Cian. Because no one is betting their house that he’s better then 5th right now with Pog, Dani,G, and Ben O in front him. 🤔🦋🎰👊

    I would need to think on that one longer. And get back to you on it. Cause I did Jen’s on my team for a few years and it would be disrespectful to not mention Grégory Rasta man, Markel, Bushe, sayers, Jani, Popo, even Gordo could switch hit when he wasn’t sprinting. I had some great ones. 🤔🦋🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔👊

    I asked on another video, where he failed dismally in the break, and then here the other (?) Paret-Peintre goes but at least he won the stage this time. BUT: what's the point of winning a stage of a GT if you're not helping your 4th place on GC rider (O'Connor) win / podium GC? Is he just trying to get a better contract next year? I wouldn't be hiring him as a team player based on current actions. I think this break away riding is a knuckle headed move.

    A pity Alaf is injured but against VPP and Bardet, he stood no chance anyway... Tibieri is chasing white and virtually has it if you consider the time he will gain on the Belgian rider in the flat TT. I think he was defending against Zana rather than trying to move up GC.

    Chris, I caught the Giro on Max. Some of the commentators gave opinions that were appallingly facil and shallow. I have gotten used to the quality of your insightful, in-depth opinions. The contrast was jarring.

    Devil's advocate for Bahrain. They were also riding for the white jersey. Uijtdebroeks was isolated with Tratnik up the road so maybe they thought they could put him under pressure while also protecting their GC spot?

    I have to finally disagree with you Chris, a team with maximum top 5 ambitions with some hope and prayer shouldn’t care at this point about “putting pressure” on the leader team which as well might be riding on a different dimension when it comes to GC and let SEVERAL rider pass you on GC for the sake of putting pressure on the leader team even though you are realistically not even competing with that leader team anymore
