This Is How the Moon Formed 4.5 Billion Years Ago! Explained in Under a Minute

#shorts How did the Moon form? Analysis of samples brought back from the NASA Apollo missions suggests that the Earth and Moon are a result of a giant impact between an early Earth and an astronomical body called Theia. The most widely accepted theory is called the giant-impact Hypothesis. It proposes that the Moon formed during a collision between the Earth and another small planet, about the size of Mars. The debris from this impact collected in an orbit around Earth to form the Moon.

    We don't.... And it didn't happen. so there's that. The earth and the moon have different make ups. So it didn't come from earth. Edit:9/23 Right now I'm seeing two different theories forming and getting the most backing in online articles. 1 saying the largest argument for the moon is the impact. So +1 for you guys. And the second is saying that if there was an impact as you are suggesting it would have shattered the earth. Forming back together it would be too hot so couldn't possibly have been the case. So -1 for you guys. Right now the verdict is still out, but I mean a year ago we thought the universe was just 18 billion years old. Webb says it's either Infinite or at a minimum double that age. So basically right now we don't know. But as soon as we are leaning more towards one or the other I will report it.

    @lloydlineske2642

    @@fredbohm4728 I think before you use harsh words like liar you need to know what you are talking about or you sound ignorant. "March 13th 2020 - Nearly half a century old belief that the Earth and Moon are composed of the same material has been proven false by a new study published this week. About 4.5 billion years ago, the Earth’s only natural satellite, the Moon was formed. The most-accepted hypothesis among astronomers and space scientists is that the Moon was formed by the collision of two proto-planets, namely, Theia, a mars-size rock and the newly born Earth. A substantial part of the collision debris fused to form the Moon. This theory of Moon formation came to be known as the Giant Impact Hypothesis. As per the hypothesis, the composition of the Moon must be a mixture of Theia and Earth. This was suggested to be false, by the samples taken from the Apollo Mission back in the 1970s. The analysis of these lunar samples revealed that the Moon and Earth have the same composition, due to similarity in the oxygen isotopes. Since then, it has remained a mystery! Where did the remnants of Theia go if the Moon was formed from a collision? Although the Giant Impact Hypothesis explains several geochemical similarities between the Earth and its only natural satellite, the extreme similarity in oxygen isotopes has been difficult to reconcile with this scenario. Now, the latest study, published in the journal Nature Geoscience, has revealed that the Moon is indeed composed of different rock materials than Earth’s." I'll accept your apology now. The report says they are different. Says there is no case for this other planet. Also use your head for a moment. If moons are formed this way then why would Mars, a smaller planet, have 2 moons? How would Pluto have a moon? You think those are formed from surface impacts? Okay then explain how Jupiter and Saturn have so many moons. There is no surface in Jupiter to impact. That's simply not how moons are formed. Just so you know there are only two ways moons come into being. They are either created shortly after the planet and are created in the same way. They are from the gas and material that didn't make it to the planet. So they get caught up in it's gravitational force. Over time they gather into one place and create a moon. Or they are an asteroid or comet like object that gets caught in the gravitational force of the planet. Something big enough to create something left over as big as the moon would be too large and would have shattered our planet. Which is the probable cause of the asteroid belt past mars. If you have any other questions I'd rather you just ask than sounding ignorant. Thank you.

    One problem with this theory….the moon is exactly 1/400 the size of the sun and 400 times closer to the Earth than the sun ( so we have an eclipse)…has a near perfect circular orbit around the Earth, and rotates at just the right speed so that only one side of the moon is always facing Earth. The odds that a random collision led to the moon’s perfect position and rotation speed and orbit….is infinitely beyond chance. The moon was put there.

    It was put there. After a collision and a shit load of time the moon formed and has drifted away from earth very slowly. As humans we have only known it to be where it is as humanity is still very new. Its still drifting away and in around another billion years or so it will escape our gravity and be gone forever.

    As the Moon’s gravity pulls on Earth, it produces tidal forces that make the oceans bulge and cause Earth’s rotation to lose momentum. Slowing Earth’s rotation in turn speeds up the Moon’s orbit, which must expand to conserve the total momentum of the Earth-Moon system.

  • @imconsequetau5275

    @imconsequetau5275

    superdave31 The Earth was spinning much faster than it is today. The same tidal forces that produce tides around Earth, slowing the spin, also apply gravitational drag on the Moon, raising the orbit. It is rather disturbing to think of our Moon 17 times closer ! Solar eclipses would be very frequent. I'm pretty certain that even mountain peaks would be eroded flat by the enormous tides.

    simple answer , Iron content .PS: No actual sound was ever heard , but seismic waves created from the landing as well as a very well placed later hammer blow both created the waves that flowed in a frequency that on Earth inside an atmosphere would have sounded like a bell or a hollow metallic object , however the moon is not hollow , it is both a loose coagulation of regulus as well as zones of very solid rock and iron . None of this even takes all of the other minerals into consideration . the moon is much more complex than we could imagine .
