THIS Is How The Indiana Fever TOTALLY DEFEATED The Phoenix Mercury In The First Half

THIS Is How The Indiana Fever TOTALLY DEFEATED The Phoenix Mercury In The First Half.
In the Indiana Fever’s last game against the Phoenix Mercury, Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, and company had AMAZING games. Caitlin Clark recorded 20 points, 13 assists, and 6 rebounds. Although the Indiana Fever nearly lost this game in the second half, in the first half, Indiana did nearly everything right. How did they do it? In this video I break it down.

Typical great analysis. Two observations (much from watching CC for years now): Good things happen when Caitlin drives and gets layups. Entirely opens up the rest of her game and relieves pressure to make her 3's; Pushing the pace adds to TEAM assists, not just Caitlin assists. When the rest of the team is doing the extra pass and moving the ball they are at their most dangerous- they can beat anyone.

The fact that they scored 95 points in spite of a horrible fourth quarter and bad 3 pt. shooting night shows their potential. If they could ever play well for four quarters, they'd score over 100 points a game.

Totally agree with you. When the pace is pushed by Caitlin, their opponents are unprepared. The Fever team needs to be fit and be able to run like Caitlin for the entire 40mins. If they can maintain that pace, they will surprise everyone. This means that Wheeler should not be handling the ball..

Thanks for the wonderful analysis. The Fever should capitalize on the running game. Every Fever player should be a better runner than they are now. And what I mean by that is running stamina, not short distances but over a long period of time; enough time to exhaust the other team. The off season will be telling! Which players, when the 2025 season training camp starts, will be a better runner than she is now? The more that each Fever player can run the more points. I hope the coaching staff makes a point of this. None of the Fever players can run as fast as Clark. The Fever have the possibility of running every WNBA team into the ground. Running should be a recruiting requirement.

The first half that Indiana played is championship caliber , starting late second half they team played like a team that missed the playoff. I’m not sure if it’s the team or the coaching staff. The coaching staff is responsible for as much as player. If the team is having chemistry you don’t change what’s working! It goes for anything in life. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”

Here’s a rule that Sides could easily enforce: when CC asks for the ball, pass her the ball. Or be benched. There’s a lot of film of Mitchell seeing CC open and ignoring her, or waving her off. That behavior can easily be coached and corrected. Doing this one thing could result in more wins.

He went to Chelsea where he was embraced, Paid three times his previous amount, and won individual awards, as well as the league. And Real Madrid spent years and a lot of money trying to find a replacement. And didn't win the league the next two seasons.

I think Sides is jealous of Clark's leadership and style of play that is the opposite of Sides'. i don't think the players decided on their own to play differently in the 4thQ - that's totally on Sides. You can see her on the sideline commanding Mitchell during a play to NOT provide a screen CC asked for, while also motioning CC to handoff to Katie Lou. Result = turnover (not on CC, but when KL tries to do what CC would do with an inside pass). Compare to how things went with CC and Bluder at Iowa. The coach again trying to slow CC down, but CC happily ignoring her and making scores. Bluder smiles, throws her hands in the air, fake groans, then gives CC the keys to the car! Sides' ego will not allow her star rookie run the floor-show, despite the proven results when doing things CC's way. Sides should be sidelined permanently.

Carter! Do you think part of Caitlin's strategy is to not project that she's going to pass the ball? In the one example where you mentioned you thought she would lay it up, she kept running past the basket, then bounced a pass to Kelsey. Well, was it my imagination or did she not even turn her head. It was almost as if it were a stealth pass. She kept her head facing toward where she was running, but passed the ball to her left where Kelsey was cutting. Maybe it's just my imagination. If I'm right, that's sneaky good.

I think you're right: her vision is so good that she knows where everyone is. sometimes she needs to check, to make sure they've realized they could get open and they've started towards that spot; sometimes she just assumes they'll figure it out and passes anyway. worked at Iowa, because she had a team and a coach who supported her. the Fever is taking longer to build that trust and anticipation, mostly because Sides doesn't even realize what CC is capable of. and yes, that's what a lot of turnovers are about. CC calls it her being too excited, but she's just assuming people see what she sees. they need to be educated, and practice. and that's the coach's job. but Sides is incompetent.

Great analysis! I'm curious to hear more about what you say really happened the 2nd half/4th quarter. My opinion,GM Dunn hired point guard Erica Wheeler a year or two ago at max contract. Wheeler is paid $220,000 a year, 2nd highest in the WNBA. So .... Dunn wants her expensive hire to play and look good, but the Fever suffers when Wheeler replaces Caitlin as point guard. Wheeler slows the pace and it all falls apart. They have to keep Caitlin at point guard to continually win !!!!!

“I noticed” Carter changed his microphone from I believe the Liberty game video that I last watched. I’m guessing (without looking back) you may have used a Samson q2 in the previous and this one just looks different from it. If I’m not wrong, I’ll subscribe pending your next video. 😏 Well done 👍🏼!

what happend was Wheeler was put on as PG... .. taking the ball out of CC's hands for mercury... they couldn't do it, but Sides could. ... And did. As far as i get, the main job for all coaches is somehow get the ball out of CC's hands... and the only one that have managed that is Sides so far....

That’s a good question! I had the video finished, but I experienced some technical difficulties. By the time I was able to fix it, the next Fever game was being played, so I just made another analysis about that game. I know you guys were excited about the video, so I’ll post another one similar to it when the Fever lose their next big lead (I don’t doubt that they will).

i know she a amazing shooter but am i the only one whos hella annoyed by kelsey mitchell playing hero ball? Now it turned out positive with 28 points but on a bad shooting day that shit can cost them the game. Fever can be a couple points behind with 2 min to go and kelsey would ignore all the open players just to run into other players trying to get a bucket herself she plays like she cares more about her own stats.

to give her the benefit of the doubt, Sides is about not using the point guard. so KM's play style is one of the few things the Fever had going for them, and nobody was suggesting anything much different. hard habits to break.

@@transmatized yeah I was at that game. It was intense wondering if CC was going to make that triple double. But it was much competitive and was a closer game the entire time. Makes me wonder that there never would have been a 30 point lead but that it might have turned into a loss for Indiana.

I liked that Mitchell did not dribble from CC’s pass, she instead jumped up, to make the layup. I want to see more women not make that wasteful dribble. Otherwise, she plays wastefully with her hero ball rather than economically. Clark ALWAYS finishes her plays.

How they almost blew their lead would be interesting. Caitlin needs to start taking shots in the middle when she drives down low but nothing opens up. I don't like her kicking it back out for a lower percentage shot then she could take shots in the middle.

she's said it herself, her go-to is assists. she loves doing that, her teammates benefit, it builds trust and cooperation, it keeps CC from getting quite as banged up, plus it keep Sides off her back. probably worth it.

1st qtr is very effective offense of the team as a coach why should i change the tempo of the game sides make a big blunder starting 3rd n 4th qtr. Fever players are young and can run the floor with more stamina compare with opponents just jogging for defense.
