    I realized something after recording, Shortform has The Phoenix Project! Which if you're a developer who hasn't read it, I highly recommend it. shortform.com/forrest Shortform also has The Unicorn Project, but I haven't read that yet so can't speak to it. I'll be adding that to my Shortform Library to read next.

    I do the same thing. Once you understand something it helps remembering. Actively explaining it to yourself like you would to another is very helpful.

    I talk to myself too, and it sometimes freaks people out, but it really does help when trying to work something out. I don't know that I'd call it a memory technique, because I still forget things days later, but while I'm actively working on a project it can help a lot.

    What you talk about in the initial part of the video about the self talking and explaining is something that appears on the book Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning from Peter Brown. That technique helped me to better understand and fix what I couldn’t remember while explaining to someone. In fact I learned those techniques explaining to my wife about the book. If you can, I recommend the reading.

    Sorry, sir Forrest. I have a question, for the *_Notion Student Project_***, the projdcted release is/was said to be *LATE JULY* but it still hasn't released and is now *EARLY AUGUST*. I am NOT asking for it ASAP, just better clarity on the time it will release, prices, features, etc. Thanks. 8:52

    I just reinterpret what I'm reading into my own simple dictation and then summarize it in my head. What's important will be there, if it's not important, I'll naturally discard it. If it's a picture or something complex I take a mental photo of it and come back when necessary. Honestly, this could have been a 30 second video.

    So basically, oral spaced repetition with the Feynman technique? Not crazy at all. I'm pretty sure it's backed by science.

  • @fknight

    @fknight

    9 ай бұрын

    Hmmm I suppose it does implement the Feynman technique. Good catch. And yes, there is quite a bit of science to back it up, but I still always feel like a crazy person when someone catches me talking to myself lol

  • @SimGunther
    @SimGunther9 ай бұрын

    It's not enough to "just spaced repetition, bro". Your understanding of the topic needs to evolve so you can better recall with more clarity instead of making the flawed understanding "permanent" with that kind of practice. That's why there's usually a double feedback loop of reviewing what was great and what needed improvement on a daily basis. Hope everyone's having a great day 🥂

    the goal is to do all that without stimulants

  • @fknight

    @fknight

    9 ай бұрын

    Definitely possible, but some days a stimulant boost is helpful. And when I say that, I mean a stimulant like caffeine, not cocaine 😂. I do find myself having great ideas and convos with myself when smoking a cigar though, due to the nicotine, which provides a lot of cognitive benefits due to many recent studies. Although there are healthier ways to consume it compared to a cigar. I'm curious, why the desire to avoid stimulants?
