It actually has more to do with which gender is able to be more assertive. Hyena's are the epitome of penis envy and the only way I know this is because I wanted to know if Scar could actually rule over Hyenas.

Fun Fact: The birth is so hazardous, not only could the cubs die from suffocation. But the mother herself could die as well, from the injuries sustained from the birthing process. In fact: 15% of hyena moms die from birthing their first litters, since their psuedopenis isn’t stretchy enough compared to that of a more experienced mother.

In all actuality, the birthing process for hyenas is a bit problematic. Its not uncommon for a mothet to die giving birth. They give birth through a pseudo-penis basically, and as you can imagine, that can cause quite a bit of tearing. The mother often times has a tendency bleed out.

It’s the same for humans, despite women not having a pseudopenis.Before medical care came into play, death of mothers during childbirth was crazy high, not to mention the multitude of complications during and after (which happen even now, in medically assisted births).Nature is really stupid, or simply hates certain species, lol

@@Durka-Durkathat’s not the same thing. The females are the ones that lay the eggs inside his pouch. He just keeps them warm until they hatch then releases them out through the pouch. It’s not technically giving birth

Alot of animals have a somewhat easier time giving birth than humans. We just got unlucky, but not as unlucky as the hyenas.

The pain is pretty bad, but the thing that’s easier for them, that isn’t for humans, is that the labor process doesn’t take quite as long as humans. But the pain is still quite terrible. For some animals, like cats and ducks, the mating process is quite painful too

If I had to give birth like that I'm making damn sure that those kids live to be 80. I'd be so pissed if I went through that only for a cub to get snatched up by a lion or something

The sad part is that a lot of deaths in pregnant hyenas are first time mothers because they havent streatched themself yet the baby can get stuck and result in the death of both her and the baby. It happens in experienced mothers as well but less often.

This is literally the equivalent of a man giving birth through his penis. Up to 60% of the cubs die during the process due to suffocation. The birthing canal is only about an inch in diameter.
