Having the eval bar proves blitz is mostly about understanding the position. Hikaru rarely wins or loses out of the opening, but he is usually the one in control.

True, but you can tell by his comfort level in the middle game whether he is likely to win or lose, even when the eval bar says it's a draw.

The last game proves my point. Hikaru was actually losing after the opening, but he had a plan and felt good about the game despite being -1.

​@@tuckerwarford9050 Firstly, he is about 350 elo higher than his opponent in that game so it seems like he should win from all of his different skills even if he is "worse" after the opening. I'm sure you could easily beat someone 350 elo below you even if the engine says you're worse by a point with equal material most of the time. Secondly he is playing a hyper modern system, which engines are notorious for misunderstanding, further on that engines are just worse on openings than anything else, and that's just the engines evaluation at that moment. If you let it run a bit longer it'll probably start showing that it's playable. Thirdly it is a closed position, another type of condition that engines don't understand how to play as well as they do other positions. An engines evaluation can also be misleading because an engine might tell you "ahh, this position is -1", but when you look at the line the engine suggests, it shows a 7 move line of "only" moves, where black must find the best move on each of the next 7 moves or else they will be worse. The engine can find these moves, for a human however this is impractical so you shouldn't assume the position is actually -1.

The elav bar can be very misleading, but in this case it further reinforces that the objective engine evaluation doesn't matter as much in blitz because Hikaru is so much better at forming a plan and understanding the position than his 2900 rated opponent.

Eval bar is a great touch. And Hikaru’s intuition seems to match up with it as well. Impressive.

The problem is not whether he sees it or not, the problem is believing what he sees. 😃 if he doubts there could be there some computer applications that shows the evaluation bar Live during playing.

Eval bar is extremely useful and makes the games really interesting! More of that please!
