Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Through the Years", "She Believes In Me", "You & I" (written by the Bee Gees) etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.

When my mom married my stepdad, she came down to the aisle to this song. I went and saw Kenny Rogers a year or so after they got married. Unfortunately, that was before cellphones and even decent cameras. I only have a couple of no zoom, grainy pictures from a 110 camera somewhere. More Kenny: "Lucille", "Ruby, Don't take your love to town", "Just dropped in-to see what condition my condition was in", "Islands in the stream" (with dolly parton)

Islands in the Stream duet with Kenny and Dolly Parton (live performance) is a must to react to. Also Kenny and Dolly singing : I Will Always Love You. Also Kenny and Lionel Richie duet of Lady (it was a live performance 30 yrs. after Kenny first recorded the song. She Believes in Me, Through The Years are 2 more crossover songs. Coward of the County, and Ruby are 2 more Country songs. Kenny started out with The New Edition and their song: So In Love With You is a good one too. Kenny had a very long career and had millions of fans....still does. RIP Kenny.

This was his first performance of this tune. Do yourself a favor & find & watch one of his last times performing it. He was at the CMT awards 2012 & had Lionel come up & sing it with him & the love & friendship is such a beautiful thing to see. Music was awesome & Kenny tells the story behind Lionel writing it. A must see. Perfection!

That duet with Lionel wasn't at the CMT awards. lt was a concert called Lionel & Friends to honor the Tuskegee album that Lionel put out in 2013. It was full of country singers singing Lionel's music. That's why Kenny was on the album and performed during the concert. Lionel and Kenny also did 'CMT's Crossroads' show together in 2006. In case you don't know, that's a show where country artists sing and play together with an artist from a different genre. Lionel and Kenny stayed very close up until Kenny's death on 3-20-2020. Look them up, the concert and the CMT show, are both on KZread! I do agree that concert was the best they ever performed it as a duet. Even 'Lady' on 'CMT Crossroads' wasn't as good! Shortly after Kenny had success with 'Lady', Lionel asked Kenny to sing background vocals for the song 'My Love' on Lionel's first album as a solo artist. It's tough to pick just one, but 'My Love' has to be my favorite Lionel Richie song, just as 'Lady' is for Kenny Rogers!

She also has an exact same story when she passively saw KISS performing at some festival during a class trip when she was 16.. She didn't care for them and was more interested in the carnival rides. So I eas a little girl when this came out and I remember my aunts and mom giggling when my dad got a little sauced at our house warming party and serenaded my mom with this. He didn't have the gravel but he is Filipino American in the 70's through to now. He didn't sing unless he was a bit buzzed because he thought he didn't have a good enough voice. It was great. He just knew he had a wife and family. But this song still makes me warm somewhere inside like he's singing to me, like I'm special. That's part of his song...she's HIS lady, the one.

There's a couple of videos where he talks about hiring Lionel to write the song for him. Rough rundown from my vague memory: Kenny wanted to hire him to write a song for him for his album. Lionel was going to turn it down, until Kenny told him how many albums be thought he was going to sale. Lionel came over and told Kenny about a song that the Commodores turned down. But he only had the word "Lady" and the melody.. He started writing the rest of the song. Kenny said at one point, he was writing part of it while sitting on the toilet. Kenny kinda tells the story when he and Lionel performed this live together. It's surprising to see how old he was in this old performance, yet he continued to live on for decades more, passing away somewhat recently.. I always thought it was kinda strange how his looks had changed. Kinda didn't even look like the same guy to me, in his later years.

I suggest Ruby for the next one. The Gambler is a masterpiece, but Ruby is my favorite Kenny Rogers song, and I couldn't even tell you why. It just has this vibe to it that I've only ever gotten from Bruce Springsteen's I'm On Fire, which I also can't recommend enough. Not just Fire, that's a much more famous Boss track, but the wrong one. But anyway, you definitely have to do Ruby.
