@@calitaco Honestly? I got a life. As the joke goes, you've won at EVE once you uninstall the game. EVE is a massive time sink and at times you need to be available at a moment's notice. I was a pretty small cog in the grand machination that is EVE, but even I couldn't just take a week off to go do something else. This ultimately means that you pretty much need to log on every day for at least an hour or two just to keep an eye on things and make sure things are running smoothly.

@@x0myspace0x That really depends on your playstyle though. Sure, if you're part of a nullsec blob or worse yet - corp management - you have oBLiGaTioNs, but if you're there for the small gang PvP, casual mining/trading/industry or funny wormhole bullshit, you can manage it much more easily. The myth that EVE always always requires hours and hours of obligatory gameplay time is just false.

Late to the party, but it's so true. New trailers try to emulate this by having a 'real players' party try to play the game and sound as hyped as these guys. This is legit, for the amount of time that you devote to EVE to get to where you want to be, the payout IS this good. The GAME is this good. Yes, it takes eons to get to where you want to be at your own end-game, but the journey; fights you flee from, fights you win, targets lost, shenanigans encountered, mining, whatever you wish man, you can do it all, and the payout... the payout is the same as the hype from this trailer. You get out what you put in, man. I love this game to bits.

It's the complete chaos that is EVE. You have no idea what's going to happen. So many variables at play. The completely unexpected ambush. The consequences of not mashing your d-scan button every 5 seconds. Your wormhole collapsing and being stuck 58 jumps from home through null sec. Did you bring the right ammo? Did you fit out right? Oh crap, I've got billions in implants in this clone. And who knows what insanity you'll see or be a part of. NOTHING in the entire gaming world can compare or compete with EVE. It's just a beast all on its own.

When I first watched this, I though "yeah trying to bs me with marketing nonsense drama, good luck". This video did look so fake it was one of the main reasons I avoided EVE. Then I joined the game 10 days ago, I had my first major alliance fight last night with a total of 300 ships from both sides. I know far from a major fight of 3000+ ships but still it was huge for me. This is exactly what I experienced. I am glad I am proven wrong, CPP my apologies, this exactly what EVE is about and respect to you guys for making by far the best sci fi MMO in this galaxy. Sure the camera work does not represent real battle because you are on bird eye view , but as soon as I died and had more time to move camera around this is how I experienced the rest of the battle. I was in a pathetic super cheap (like a hour of afk mining) ship and still managed somehow to do some serious damage to far larger ships (3 basilisks) and died in a blaze of glory with no clue what I was doing apart from following our alliance leader's voice who sounded exactly like these guys in this video. 100% realistic , 0% BS involved, glad to be proven so wrong. Awesome work CPP, keep this game amazing, I will be hopefully around for a long time paying you guys because you 100% deserve it. EVE is by far the most underated game I ever played and many of the criticism about the time required to play it and how hard it is to learn is mainly BS. If you have not do try to this game, yes there is some truth to the criticism, but the truth is light years away from the hate this game receives. Join a corp, I am in Fly Fearless and they are amazing with new players, dont play alone and the game will become 1000 times easier and your learning speed 1000 times faster. Unless you are stupid and you invest on expensive stuff you cannot afford to lose, expect to die a lot, but this will barely affect you, if not , it makes the game much more fun. 10 days, lost 10 ships, do not give a fuck, they were all super easy to replace. One criticism , improve your sound effects in battle, look at Elite Dangerous, they made an amazing job at the sound design department and dying is a terrifying experience because of the sound alone. Dying in EVE is so emotionally underwhelming even though these epic fights are awesome. So yes the game is not perfect but it is awesome.

I have been playing EVE for about a year now, and I just want to clarify a few things here. EVE is the only true open sandbox game. EVE is what YOU make it to be. Get the hell out of highsec if you want your EVE experience to be like this. Brave Collective and HERO Coalition in general will accept day one players into their ranks, and they live in Catch, which is the most content heavy region in all of New Eden. People here say that this game is not new player friendly. That may be true...if all you want to do is drop supercaps and titans on newbies like Pandemic Legion does. But if you want to have fun and actually experience pvp in the exact way this trailer shows it, go join alliances like Brave, TEST, NAGA, Spaceship Samurai, or pretty much anyone in HERO. Fights everyday. Want an example? After this trailer released, Brave dropped their recruitment screening. Very shortly after that, and after a surge of newbros came in, Hurley, one of PL's most well known titan pilots, died. Because Brave newbros kept him pinned down long enough for the rest of HERO and Black Legion to take him down. From the words of a newbro, "My very first kill in EVE was a friggen TITAN" This could be you.

Agreed. The hardest part in Eve is getting past the first 3 months. The reason for this is because the skill grind makes you feel useless and feel like you can't do anything to be productive in a fleet. This isn't true at all. Within a month, you can be a tackler, probably one of the most important roles in any fleet. You'll die, often, but when all is said and done, when that 1 bil isk ship is dead because you tackled it and held on long enough for everyone else to jump on it, they're not going to remember who shot it. They're going to remember who held it to be shot. The other part that you have to get past is the players themselves. There are some players who just want to "Watch the world burn" and go out of their way to really just ruin the experience for you. This is one of the reasons why people believe it's not "new player friendly." BRAVE has helped eliminate this for the most part. And you can also find public roams that are willing to take you out and show you the ropes (I fly with Redemption road once to twice a week....been the most fun I've had in a while). One of the important things people do seem to miss when playing Eve is that the "I want to fly a Titan!" mentality is bad. If that's your goal, I won't lie....you're going to fail. The reason: Skilling to just fly a Titan takes a very, VERY long time and that's not including the side skills needed to fly it well, not great, just well. You'll miss out on a lot more content in the game by having that mentality. Start out small. Decide if you want to PvP or PvE or go industrial. Find a corp that works with what you want and they will make recommendations on what to do. There is no "end game," and you can switch professions when needed. The most important thing I can ever tell anyone: Have fun, fly safe, and don't fly anything you can't afford to replace :-p

I agree, alliance warfare is where real good times like this are at (particularly because I am a diplo in an alliance), but I disagree that Catch is the most content heavy. There are a lot of more populated regions with more content, however, ProviBlock vs HERO is probably one of the biggest conflicts in the game.

I've personally never felt an adrenaline rush like EvE when playing a game. I'll always remember my first PvP fight. Everything went blank and I kept pressing random buttons, hands shaking and heart thumping like mad... Needless to say, but I lost in the fastest 30 seconds of my life. He got the pod too when my brain stayed in shock... It never went away... Adrenaline rush, every time... Watching it again and I'm not skipping if it comes as a KZread commercial :P

There's a lot of people arguing here about whether EVE is "fun" or "noob friendly" and comparing it to other MMOs. I don't think you understand. EVE is not 'fun' like a movie. It is not 'fun' like a dance. EVE is Dwarf Fortress fun. It is fun, because it is so hard, so brutal, so unforgiving, that your accomplishments matter. It is fun because when you fail, you collapse in a heap of depression in spite of yourself. When you succeed, you scream "YES" at the top of your lungs. When you spend seven months setting up for a war, the outcome of that war really, really matters to you. EVE is fun like extreme skiing. Seven days of boredom followed by a sudden helicopter ride and 30 minutes of heart-pounding adrenaline. You are not a hero. You are a scrub, surrounded by other scrubs, just as scared as you are, all of you stumbling around, being preyed upon, preying on others, avoiding traps, falling for traps, setting traps and trying to gather enough friendly scrubs that you can sleep without getting stabbed to death by unfriendly scrubs. And when you gather enough scrubs and organize them ably enough, sometimes, just sometimes, you manage to do something *really cool* and you know what? From then on, when scrubs are sitting around at a gate-camp waiting, waiting, waiting, their hearts going "thump, thump, thump," the FC trying really hard to keep it all together and really, really hoping your intel is better than the other guy's... someone starts telling stories, and one of those stories is yours. EVE is real because EVE does not forget. Because things I did seven years ago still matter, still make people laugh, still make people go "wow." Even mistakes I made when I was a newbie become fodder for explaining things to new players without offending them, for easing the pain of their mistakes, making them less likely to repeat them. EVE isn't "better than" or "worse than" other MMOs. EVE is the *only* MMO. You cannot compare it to competition it does. not. have.

Day 2. On a Trial Account, First Time Player. Having finished the Career Agents and getting bored of Agent Missions in general, I look around on the market for some ways to make REAL money. I find the answer in one simple place: Mining. For 30 minutes of mining, I can make many times what I can doing Agent Missions . . . but I have to go to LowSec to do it. So I load up my Venture with mining lasers and Drones, slap in whatever defensive systems I can, and go on a trip. You'd think that mining would, even in Low Security space, be boring, right? You would be Dead. Wrong. Sitting there, watching my hold painstakingly slowly fill up, while keeping a close eye on my Directional Scanner and the Local Chat, making absolutely sure that I'm alone out here, and not about to be ganked. Being ready to jump away at a moment's notice if an NPC fleet too big for me to deal with, or god help me another Player, stumbles upon me. Maybe it's weird, but I find that sense of being somewhere I don't belong, somewhere people don't want me to be, exhilarating.

I still absolutely love the two lines that perfectly encapsulate the newbro from the veteran in PVP: "Oh my god it's a Titan!" "Do *NOT* engage!" Can confirm though, that guy's exclamation right on point. When you see a ship so big show up that your ship might as well be the size of one of its drones, that's an awe-inspiring moment.

Guys if you want to know more about EVE you should come have discussions about it on /r/eve. We talk about trade, economics, warfare and guild comradeship. I have aspergers syndrome, and I can't leave the house much. But when I play EVE, it is like leaving not just my house, but the entire planet. Just a few weeks ago, I broke a new record for myself. I managed to play for 54 hours straight. I survived on nothing but Moutain dew Blue and Doritos supreme cheese. I went to the toilet in my custom seat (I am a bit on the heavy side so I need a custom chair). But the point is, this is the longest I have ever played a game straight. There is a universe out there! lets get exploring! - Sol ancan - Titan captain and /r/eve mod.

This is EVE. It's not a game. Is a fucking job. You need to play almost full time to get the usual progression satisfaction of conventional MMOs. It's not an instant gratification game, that's for sure.

  • @PatrickJoannisse

Maybe I was a little too subtle. What I meant was, EVE is not about doing all the quests until you're level 90 and then do some endgame stuff. Instant gratification as in "you kill 20 spiders, do a couple of quests and you get XP, more powers and get a new item just like that". I was the right hand of the leader of a huge alliance that died after someone backstabbed the CEO and I left it (before the backstab) because managing everything became a job. I created a new character (after the backstab) and started from scratch. If you played for 8 years and you start a new character it'll take you 8 years to get to where you were. Maybe a little less since they removed the Learning skill. I still love EVE but I've always been a trader and never had the excitement of being in huge battles.

I would like to clarify some misconceptions that I have read in several of these comments. First, these comms are taken from real fleets and fights and many of these same actions can be seen in several other videos posted on KZread, namely, WiNGSPAN TT's torpedo delivery's, Rook's and King's Clarion Call series and Bombers Bar public roams. Second, you can be in actions like this on your first day in game by joining one of the many new player friendly groups that are available. Namely, Brave Newbies, Eve University or Red versus Blue. Just to name a few offhand. Third, just because you're a new player, you're not behind the curve. Sure, a vet player will have more different skills, however all skills peak. Meaning in about a month or so of training, you will have the exact same number of skill points in the same focus. Example, if you want to be a frigate pilot and want to brawl with another frigate, the skill used by that other player will be as capped out as yours when you reach Skill Level 5 for that racial frigate. The same goes for the weapon skills, support skills, electronic warfare, etch. When that other player decides to reship into a cruiser or a battleship, you won't be nearly as ready as he is. You have to learn to walk before running after all. Forth, this game is definitely a social game. All of these examples in this video show what strength is numbers is all about. There are many things in Eve that you can do solo. Exploration is generally done solo but you need to learn to do it and that is where player run corporations come in. Find a group that you like and have a blast. Lastly, there is no other game that will give you the adrenaline rush that Eve does. I challenge anyone doubting me to try the game for a trial, join a newbie group and engage in combat and tell me it didn't give you the shakes in your hands.

Too bad I've tried to start this game on a 21-day free trial 3 times already, trying to join newbie friendly corporations all three times (because during the first time I played I solo'd for a large chunk of it and that was a waste of time), but nobody ever bothered to even reply to me or accept my corps application. I was deeply interested in the game, but the subscription fee (I'm poor as fuck) and the lack of meaningful player interaction caused me to lose interest. As cool as this trailer looks, I probably won't be playing this game again.
