“BuT ShE HaS BoTh GeNdErS InSiDe hEr HeAd” this movie was made 9 YEARS AGO they weren’t thinking about Riley being gay or something. The reason she has both gender inside her head is so that the little kids that watched the movie could feel identified and that they weren’t alone, not only girls. and im saying this, even IF she was queer... it wouldn't be the main point of the movie. It would still be about her dealing with new emotions now that she is 13 and is entering a era of her life and has to deal with new emotions after already having dealt with her original emotions and how to handle them. SHE IS GROWING UP.
@samanthaspino
Ай бұрын
Most queer people still grow up with those things but also have to go through a lot more pain as a result of the fact they are queer. If Riley is gay then it absolutely would be deeply interwoven in her story of dealing with her emotions growing up as society tries to demonise and demean queer people as being "weird" or "unnatural" and I can tell you from experience that absolutes has a massive effect on you growing up and an even bigger impact on you during your teenage years when you are dealing with new emotions and entering the next era of your life.
@maskanbu5188

@@samanthaspino again, still not the main point. its growing up. IF she were queer, it would fall into that main point that she is growing up, she's in high school, she's meeting new people, subjects and academics in general are harder now, her hobbies like hockey might get sidelined here and there, and the big IF, dealing her with identity. From what I HAVE SEEN, people treat the movie as if her being queer are the main points. its not, its her growing up in general. I'm not saying she can't be queer, go for it! as long as it is written well, tells an impactful story, and viewers who are queer can be able to relate to it and feel that same experience Riley is experiencing. That is a big thing about writing, there are many details that can each mean its own thing and impact its story to create such wonderful imagery in one's head.

The biggest thing i hate about being in fandoms nowadays is how no character is allowed to have platonic relationships with anyone anymore. Like, Riley and Val are clearly just good friends, yet these degenerate adults online have to sexualize them together and force them into a strange ship?? It happens in every fandom I've been a part of, especially to characters who have a close bond that is entirely non-romantic. The most frustrating part is that a lot of movies, shows, books, etc. use relationship dynamics to expand upon and build the stories they're telling, like Samwise and Frodo in LOTR. But the then fans come along and say screw it, these two characters who care about and love each other in a platonic way shall be forced into a lover's arc together because GAY. it's so so stupid and i despise it.

Not even just fictional. People across the world now think Achilles was gay because of how upset he was when his best friend was killed. Despite the fact that there are numerous stories of him sleeping with women and that homosexuality wasn't normalized in that part of Greece for hundreds of years. Two men cared about each other, so they must be gay. Pretty homophobic idea if you think about it.
@Overlord933226 күн бұрын
What if the people saying she’s queer coded aren’t adults? Most teenagers, especially queer teenagers, tend to project their own experiences into fictional characters. The argument of her liking guys isn’t exactly fair considering bisexual people exist, perhaps she has a male preference. Also, people ship straight children with each other all the time, so the fact that when it’s gay it suddenly becomes problem just reeks of a homophobic double standard. Also there are certain queer experiences like dyeing your hair that they can relate to with Riley. Not too mention it’s over her wanting the validation of someone of the same gender so there can be a reading to that. All that being said, this isn’t queer baiting and it’s just a headcannon. A headcannon is your own idea about a character based on the text, or in this case, movie. People discussing this has nothing to do with what someone who can’t relate to those experiences has to say. It’s literally such a nothing problem to start.

And worrying about a fictional characters gender or sexual orientation is definitely a first world problem, there are bigger things to worry about. STOP THIS MADNESS 😭😭.

SHE IS GROWING UP.
@samanthaspino

I had joked about Riley being gay in inside out too, but I knew they weren’t going to do it and if they did even though I’m not homophobic, I feel like they would’ve probably messed up the character just like they made Doctor Who like the gayest man on earth and ruined his character but at least Doctor Who can change personalities every few years because he’s a time lord but Riley from inside out is a girl who is supposed to represent a real person also Riley has been shown to be attracted to multiple boys and male characters And she looks up to Val as an older girl

Mate, it's a piece of fiction. Discussion is an integral part of a healthy society. These people are not speculating a celebritys private matters or real people. They're discussing their own ideas and beliefs based on a piece of media they just watched. Sure, some of them are creepy but at the same time these are just internet comments. Who knows, maybe those people wrote that specifically just to piss you off. You people seriously need to understand you can't just silence everything you don't agree with.

Because maybe people of Rileys age would like to relate to a character? No one's obsessing over who you're into, this is a movie.
There’s just so many fan bases that just rely on “queer-coding” or “autism-coding” or other stuff like that. I guess it’s more relevant in shows like the owl house where sexual orientation plays a somewhat large part in the story, but yeah, I agree. doing this for a KIDS MOVIE is just downright creepy.
