I live in Santa Barbara California, and while I was getting a tour of the Seymour Duncan factory I got to check out Mr. Duncans' private recording studio & inside of w that was a Beat To Hell Telecaster that just so happened to be Jeff Becks' favorite guitar and I got to play it for a couple of minutes.

Don’t give up. I received a dakota red usa telecaster as a gift from my dad for my HS graduation in 1996. I fell on hard times in 2009 and had to pawn and let it go in Austin Texas. Fast forward to 2015 and I’m poking around on ebay and there it was. I thought it couldn’t be it because what are the odds. The marks on the guitar looked real familiar. The knobs were the same and pups were same (I had put amp volume knobs and a little 59 in it). So I had to ask if the case had a sticker of the band I was in on it. There were no pics of case in listing. It was a band NO one would have known. Low and behold the answer was yes. Needless to say I bid and won. It’s with me again. It was in Maine. Hold out hope.

@@dublev78 dublev78, what a fantastic story, thank you for sharing. And congrats, getting that gift from your Father back (that just so happens to be a guitar) is (IMHO) better than winning the Lottery! I'm really happy for you, not often you get a second chance like that! My Les Paul will have a prominent mark/ding on the face of the guitar's top, just down from the stopbar tailpiece. The 1st time I took the guitar to band practice the drummer accidentally let loose with a drum stick and it smashed into the top! LOL The guitar wasn't even a week old yet, looking back I can laugh about it now. That happened in 1977, it wasn't until 2012 I finally forgave the Drummer..........double LOL Again, congrats

I've got a 1995 '61 RI Foto-Flame Strat. It's a very thin, clear applique covered in polyurethane. They are notoriously susceptible to body checking. Finding a Foto-Flame without checking is rare. There is also an anomaly in the pattern that's referred to as "The Hamburgler" because it resembles the McDonald's character. Mine sits right below the tremolo.

Had an 80's Epiphone acoustic that absolutely had the Gibson headstock, so you are correct - that was a thing. It was my first guitar and was the Everly Brothers style black model with the absurdly large tortoise shell "handlebar moustache" pick guard. If you can find these, they are killer guitars, especially for a kid or adult with smaller hands.

The Fender Lite Ash Telecasters come with birds eye maple necks and fingerboards and also Seymour Duncans. They were made in Korea by Cor-Tek and they are amazing. They also make a Strat version.

The early versions of those Telecaster Custom FMT HH were made in Korea. They're excellent guitars, kind of like a cross between a Tele and an SG because of the thin body but with the carved maple top. Reckon you should try one out Trogly

From around '98 to '02, Epiphone made guitars for the Japanese market with open book headstocks. I believe that they were made in the same factory as the Epi Elitists and they are very well made guitars. I had two LPs at one time, but I'm not sure if they made SGs in that run. I have a Fotoflame Jazz bass. Yes, the neck is FF too. Look for the Hamburglar in the print.

I liked more of the other builds after Gibson and Fender. I never got close to different guitars then what I've built for my electric guitars and now one thing stands out is 2 electrics should be devoted to chasing different tones so one has humbuckers with reversible polls and the other would be Filmore or TV Jones. I strongly believe a Paul will have 2 P90s and 2 Tellies one will have traditional single coils and another is my proto type I stripped it electronics out to give it a better looking shape, better lighter weight and wood look. Electronics for me is easier than craving neck and fingerboard. My dad repaired electronics stuff, mostly TVs. I learned too.

Clive Brown’s work is about as good as it gets… my son had a Japanese 60s Strat that Clive refinished in aged Lake Placid Blue (with Clay Dots in the neck) and it was a killer guitar. I also have a 😢67 Tele here that he refinished (it was stripped in the 70s) which is beautiful.

I've just come across this channel and viewing this one it seems that the UK and US markets are slightly different in respect of what's in fashion and hence perhaps the difference in perceived values. Gardiner Houlgate gave a very fair assessment of my late brother's guitar collection and their estimates turned out to be spot on for the guitars sold through them: my son bought 4 Gibsons from the estate, although he only plays his trusty Strat, and I purchased the Tokai Love Rock LS1000 because of its rarity.

Know a guy that has a 70 something deluxe best playing electric guitar I’ve ever played gold top turned green more so than that. He says the ph in his skin sweat is more acidic, corrosive than average and a regular set of strings turn on him and after a couple days are dead so he loves elixirs because he doesn’t destroy them as soon as he touches them, but I figured someone’s ph has a little to do with gold tops turning green at least the severity , pattern and time it takes. His plays like butter it’s one of those guitars that make you play better because everything is just easier and it’s so loud and resonate. Probably the coolest looking guitar I’ve ever played as well of course it was routed for HB in the late 70s early 80s but it’s the reason why I’m drawn to LP with the crown inlay on the headstock. He had it re fretted in Nashville and inquired about a paint restoration and he said the guys working for Gibson pretty much refused to do it. I said I can’t believe you wanted to do that, it’s earned those scars and green paint from years of dependable service. He said he really was just wanting a price just to know and after the reaction the employees made over it knew 100 percent he would never have it refinished. I think you either love gold tops or hate them, I love them and the greener and more checks the better to me.

That poor gold top, but someone was working it hard. The "first" SE Soapbar had the crescent moon inlays, not just plain dots, though they were hard to see. Paul's abalone birds are pretty for sure, but I prefer the moons on a players grade PRS SE guitar. Sadly, Paul said no more moons on SEs.

That is a nice guitar you have there. I hear what you're saying. I modify my guitars too, even the "high end" ones I had. But sometimes you find one that is good as is. Even if you bought it with the intent of modding it. It's nice when you find one of those. My Player Tele is one of those for me (other than some finetuning/setup). Cheers :)

@@greyman334 Very nice ! I did get an Obsidian Wire 4-way switch kit for it, but haven't installed it yet because I like it so much as is. I will install it some day, though. Enjoy yours !

I bought the Gold top. I have a large collection of some amazing famous guitars but that gold top is my favourite guitar, the neck is amazing and the tone is sublime, do you have any history of the guitar you could share?
