@@lllucasm For old school style albums from The Jester Race to Clayman are all good, while Clayman you could feel they were in transition, and in the next Reroute to Remain they basically made it that their sound become more like alt/nu metal, which is still good for me but definitely no the same as old style anymore

Tinfoil Hat Time: In Flames went more commercial to give Anders time to heal his voice and pay for their restaurant. Now that all that has happened, The Swedening can begin again with them, Halo Effect, and At The Gates. On a serious note, this is the same melodic, catchy, and perfectly pieced together types of songs that made Trigger, Cloud Connected, Bullet Ride, My Sweet Shadow, and Clayman songs that still hold up today more than almost any other melodeath song since.

Having said that everything I’ve heard from the new album has been fantastic regardless of the era they’re trying to tap back into. It got weird over the last few albums but they’ve gotten back into a more aggressive style. Anders is best when he isn’t “singing” and there has been a lot of that on the songs released so far. I don’t think we will ever get another “colony” or “clay man” from them but I’m still going to blast this album from front to back for 6 straight months straight when it releases. I think I missed the news that Chris Broderick joined In Flames. Was confused for a while, then started to think it was like a Jeff Loomis Arch Enemy thing, underutilised guitarist in an older band. And then the solo. Just wow.

Discovered In Flames in mid 2010s. Around the time when they released Siren Charms. First song I heard was Through Oblivion and I knew right at that time I needed more. Not really a big fan of A Sense of Purpose, though it has a couple good songs, but their early-mid 2000s and basically Sound of a Playground Fading and everything after it are my favorite eras of In Flames.

I love Anders vocals throughout the history of the band but you are correct. That is Chris Broderick! He's been with them for a while and had a hand in this album, maybe a bit more than he's letting on in press/interviews too! His note/interval choices have always been really cool as far back as I can remember so the Jag Panzer days (I'm old) but it's pretty cool to hear him in the context of In Flames stuff. You love to see it imo, an older band still hitting bangers out of the park, even at this stage!
